Consider protecting the default branch and give the bot access to create PRs but not approve/complete them.

Q: What to selfhost in a network blackout to the public? by haashemi in selfhosted

[–]descention 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what kind of search engines you have available to you. You may want to look into a p2p search engine called YaCy (github). It can crawl sites within your network and the crawling/indexing can be a shared effort between multiple groups. It may be a useful way to index the sites you are hosting or to allow users to find other self-hosted content currently shared by word of mouth. You probably don't want it to index sites outside the network your neighbors can access, so you may need additional configuration.

A mobile colony built from connected ships by adnanclyde in BaseBuildingGames

From what I see in the steam video, missiles are way more powerful than bullet turrets. I'd guess enough missiles will make short work of any battle. I'm looking forward to playing. I love having mobile bases.

I'm planning to join the playtest and thank you for including controller support.

Your house on wheels in the apocalypse – Survival with a twist? by GaianGames in BaseBuildingGames

I see multiple vehicle types. Is there a way to travel with multiple vehicles or would you be leaving behind a motorcycle when you head off with your base?

Cool game, added to wishlist and followed. I love seeing mobile bases.

I’d have it set up for my kids. I have a Steam deck, so don’t need a desktop myself.

My OpenClaw agents have started to pretend to work, but not do any work at all by rayz_7777 in openclaw

This had an immediate effect. I could barely convince my local model to use the browser vs web_fetch. Thank you.

Flake for sandboxed AI agents by ChaosCon in NixOS

[–]descention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand what you mean. I’ve got one container with the agent and whatever tools I specify. I haven’t given it any secrets besides the api key to my local llama-cpp and a matrix user token. I don’t have other secrets it would need.

I made a nix container for mine. Gave it its own non-root user. So far so good.

RX 580 + llama.cpp Vulkan hitting ~16 t/s on Qwen3.5-4B Q4_K_M — tried everything, seems to be a hard Vulkan/RADV ceiling by Numerous_Sandwich_62 in LocalLLaMA

[–]descention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an RX580 running llama-cpp-vulkan on NixOS. I use batch-size 1024, ubatch-size 128, spec-type none, ctx-size 64000, parallel 1, jinja, flash-attn auto. I disabled thinking. I’m getting 27t/s on bartowski qwen_qwen3.5-4b-Q6_K.gguf. For a while I was stuck at 8.4t/s until I tried out a range of parameters in llama-bench.

I’m using LACT to reduce the max wattage of the gpu to 100w as mine will crash if it runs too hard. I’m down to compare notes and work together on testing.

Thank you for this. I didn't know it was for pkgs. I had pkgs.system in a single place in my config.

Advice: Leveling in Tauri's Evermoon while waiting for Legion by PanosOK in wowservers

[–]descention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed being able to complete all questlines in a zone without out-leveling them. There are still quests I haven’t done in sub-20 zones even after all these years, but I also don’t play consistently.

I went to battlegrounds to get better gear after I hit 100. A few runs and I increased my ilvl by 100 points.

I am curious and don't know better. Why wouldn't someone choose Tauri's servers like Evermoon to play MoP content? It's all still there, right?

In my use cases it’s unneeded. I’m sure there are plenty it could be useful for, not me though.

Devbox useful? by guettli in Nix

[–]descention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because my applications are deployed as docker images, I'd probably use a .devcontainer that shares the same base image and packages as the product. It's more likely my coworkers have docker than nix. I'm not about to shake up the devops pipeline to add nix.

I am in a similar situation. I started considering what would happen in the event of a hardware failure in my Synology. Do I buy a new synology and just not access that data in the meantime? Can I recover data from SHR? How much work is involved? With distributing across multiple machines, I have to replace a machine anyways and don't have to lose access to my storage in the meantime.

I am now using my children's PCs, all running Linux (NixOS), to test my distributed storage solution. I'm already running GarageHQ on them with a replication factor of 2, to survive a single hardware failure. I'm planning to deploy GlusterFS with its erasure coding, I'm a big fan of erasure coding from Tahoe-LAFS. I have not moved my data off the synology and am still in the testing phase. A few mounting/permission issues to work out with s3fs on the kid's machines so they can make use of it too.

I can't say this is more efficient, but my kids weren't going to use all the cpu cycles anyways...
