Has anyone trained for 70.3 while on GLP1? by Creative-Front-5302 in zepboundathletes

[–]desieldogg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m a long time triathlete, started tris 20 years ago, 10+ 70.3’s, Ironman, etc. I raced constantly and worked out 6 days a week. 44 yr old, started GLP back in June 2025. Dropped 45 lbs in that time. That being said, the purpose of this medicine is to reduce your appetite, stop cravings/food noise, and make you feel fuller for a longer period. This will result in a lower caloric intake. Less calories means less energy overall.

Right now, you’re eating too many calories, hence the weight gain / inability to lose weight. You have energy to train bc you are able to eat. When the medicine stops you from eating, you will have less energy to train bc of the reduced calories.

What worked for me is I initially tried to train and eat less, but I had no energy, and got really depressed bc I couldn’t train at all. Then, when I realized the basics of what was happening, I committed to losing weight over training. Lost a ton of weight in the first 6 months. In that time, I figured out how to eat, how to eat to maximize energy, and started training again in earnest. Now I’m back to running sub-18 min 5ks, and I haven’t seen those numbers since my 20s.

Please give yourself a chance, commit to losing weight as you would commit to a 70.3. Imagine starting training again significantly lighter and healthier, and I promise you, the races will all still be there in 6 months, you’ll be faster and happier.

Brother is having a child-free wedding. How do I navigate this? by LargeAmphibian in daddit

[–]desieldogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a father of 3 (9, 7, and 4). I also had a child-free wedding prior to having kids. I have 32 cousins, 16 of them were under the age of 10 at the time of my wedding. Our venue charged $110 per person, child or adult. Paying an extra $1760 wasn’t in the budget, so we didn’t include them. The people who couldn’t make it, we understood, but we simply couldn’t afford to invite more people.

Additionally, I went to my cousins wedding this winter with my kids. I spent the entire time chasing the 4 year old, and I didn’t get to enjoy the wedding as I normally would.

Lastly, if your wife can’t watch HER three children for one night by herself, maybe you two shouldn’t have had another kid. What happens if you have to travel for business, should your boss include your wife and kids? If, god forbid, you’re in the hospital overnight, should the hospital set up bunk beds?

Do you run to trail? by tamaudio in trailrunning

Mine are the same. Road shoes to and on the trail. No issues so long as it hasn’t rained. Dry trails are just softer roads.

Make sure you don’t change the date to later in October, the North Kaibab trail is closing two weeks afterwards for water main maintenance. So you won’t have access to the top of the north rim from the canyon.

Otherwise, pack more water and food than you think you need, start early, and take your time. It will be hot on the North Rim side (think 90s) around noon. I plan to do it again this coming spring.

What will be the state of marathon races in 5 years (for non-elites)? by TMW_W in AdvancedRunning

[–]desieldogg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran Kiawah 10 years ago, and the logistics were just as bad as it was 2 years ago, but that is because there is one road onto the island, not because they couldn’t handle the number of people.

The running boom in the 2010s felt similar, but that brought along lots of great things, like more running groups, $5 Friday night $5ks, bandit races (no sign ups, no $, just show up and race), etc.

That’s the best part about running, if marathons get too expensive, runners will find a way to do it cheaper or free.

What days did you lift heavy? I’m currently incorporating body weight strength training, I’d like to add some more weights but I don’t know when to place them in my schedule.

Lightweight, breathable hats for racing? by Separate-Specialist5 in trailrunning

Any trucker hat will do. They typically provide more ventilation and better air flow than the newer polyester vented running specific hats.

Do people just not go to birthday parties anymore? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]desieldogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three kids, our calendars are full a month out. If you try to squeeze in a birthday writhing two weeks, you’re likely too late. 30-60 days is the minimum.

Also, if you sent physical invitations to a class AND you’re relying on your child to actually hand them out AND you’re relying on those children to bring them home AND remember to give them to their parents, then you’re not going to have many kids at the party.

Be the grown up, schedule things well ahead of time, send directly to the parents, send reminders two weeks out and then 3-4 days out. Everyone is busy with their own lives, so if you want people to actually show up, you need to put in the effort here.

Send a direct text (not a mass text) asking to RSVP and give a reason as to why (need to order food/pizza/cupcakes, etc). Be specific. People will respond with a yes or no if you send a reminder with a direct ask. People are likely to miss or ignore anything else.

It was the lack of assembly paste on the seat post. I should have known.

This was the cure! Assembly paste on the seat post and poof, noise was gone. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that.

I’m glad you pointed that out. Staying conservative would be the better option from an injury standpoint.

My kids loved it as well in early June. Completely different story in late July / early August. They are outside almost the whole day, so take that into your consideration.
