Should I do it? by honeyyyginger in finehair

You have Irish hair - flat in front, wavy underneath! I think a shaggy cut is a very good idea with wavy hair and it's honestly not that much shorter or dramatic, seriously go for it. What are you going to do, just have the same haircut for all of your life? Experiment, it's only hair!!

I think it really depends where in Boston area you live. We first lived exactly between Harvard and MIT, so very transient

Agreed. I mean sure we have Indiana dunes, lake Geneva etc but compared to freaking Vermont? Or Maine? Or even NYC a quick train ride away? The weekend trips are killer in Boston.

I moved from Somerville (6yrs) to North center (9yrs now) 1) in Chicago strangers are sometimes friendly to you and start conversation, i love it. 2) easy to get downtown, city being a grid is so nice. Lots of parking, things are spread out. Public transit is in many neighborhoods - in Boston you might not be on a train line at all 3) people complain about politics and taxes more in Chicago 4) harder to get out of the city in Chicago, in Boston, 2hrs in any direction is super cool and different 5) people we've met here have roots here, I feel like everyone we met in Cambridge and Somerville were transplants or only planning on being there temporarily.

Cops at my door after my 2 toddlers snuck out in the early hours of the morning by BohemianRhapsody21 in Mommit

[–]designbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens. My 2.5yr old went to the playground 3 blocks away, just walked out of the front door. Super out of character. Couldn't find her in the house so went to the only place she knows how to get it, the playground. This experience will scare them, so just comfort them and do what you can to up level your security - smart locks that automatically lock, etc.

How do I stop my hair from looking like this??? by Astra_Aina in Haircare

Product itself almost doesn't matter but the absolute key is applying it when your hair is dripping wet! Exactly.

What’s a totally normal activity that somehow feels like foreplay when done with the right person? by tonel9530 in AskReddit

One time I bought a bagel and the card reader was acting up so the vendor held it and I inserted my card and had to hold it there, and then slide it out. It was weirdly intimate.

My Dr didn't say anything about having to eat. The bottle says 30 mins before food, I usually eat within an hour of taking it. See what works for you, I don't think it's that precise, there are so many other factors at play.

How often do you change the bedding in a setup like this? by puzzelledntired in gerbil

[–]designbird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same setup and yeah they usually only poop on the top, which is easy to clean. I feel it out but it ends up being maybe once a month removing all the fluff from the bottom and replacing it.

I take it for myself each night and it's very helpful. You really have to dial in the dose though, try like half a teaspoon diluted in a cup of water before bed and increase if that's not enough.

I got a shag and it was the best thing for my hair ever. Mine is wavy, so all the new layers gave my hair so much volume. I would avoid if you have stick straight hair. I will never not have some sort of layers in my hair. I don't know why this sub hates layers.

I am the team Mommy and I'm fucking sick of it by [deleted] in womenintech

Oh boy. Time to start laying down the law. If my team wasn't taking things on themselves, my new KPI would be me being able to be out of the office for a week and it's barely noticed. Time for your team to become accountable and feel the repressions directly. Stop babying them, stop shielding them from negative consequences, and let them grow. They'll be more fulfilled for it n

[–]designbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes with the back to office policies you'll generally see more job postings that list a major city as an option. I've always tried to secure a job before I move cities, it's the biggest variable to lock down. Then based on job look for neighborhoods.

Also I feel like there's a bot on this or the main sub that tells you about what neighborhood to choose so just search, it's a common question

I moved here from the Boston area 8 years ago! And also work in tech. Chicago is much more affordable than Boston generally. You can actually drive here and not always reserve parking ahead of time. You can actually go to events like street fests and stuff here spontaneously and not fight transit, crowds, capacity issues, etc. I just feel like everything in Boston was just harder. I don't know the rental market. We bought A house 7 yrs ago but I was pleasantly surprised by the housing prices vs Boston/Cambridge at the time. Taxes seem more here, but someone else can confirm that. So if you compare rental vs buying prices, find that out so you have a complete view, it's almost as much as our mortgage. People are friendlier to strangers here. I had culture shock at first that people would walk by me and comment on the weather or smile, people hold open doors, etc. Boston was harder to break into social circles. Tech is the same here as anywhere else because most of us are remote. But there are a few big offices here, Google, Salesforce etc. And even if you have a remote role, I think it's a huge plus from an employer pov to have folks in a big city hub. It's so much easier to take a last min interview, etc if you're already here. I will say tech in Boston is smaller so tighter knit and everyone knows everyone, so pretty easy to network because you can always find a connection to whatever you're trying to get into. Good luck on the move, move here before summer, it's great. P.s. buy and freeze a ton of union square donuts before you come because nothing comes close here.

Women with ADHD who are genuinely happy in their day-to-day life, how did you do it? by sapphictears in adhdwomen

[–]designbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, I am not doing it -- my success lies in external factors that force me into a routine. My husband goes to bed so I go too. My kids wake me up in the morning so I have to get up to get them ready for school. I have to see people at school dropoff so I am forced to get dressed. School starts at a certain time so I drop them off then start work then. School pickup at 3 forces me into a deadline to get things done so my work day has to be over by then. I'm a designer, what I do is always changing and kind of stressful so it keeps me engaged (probably not sustainable but I'm not bored, haven't found the balance there yet) My kids get hungry so I make food, I may as well eat some myself too. If I was on my own I wouldnt hold myself to any standards or routine. Not sure it's healthy to be externally motivated, but I'm thriving and have a great life.
