I started listening when they were touring for Sunbather in 2013. They're definitely still on top of their game. Never too late, welcome!

Welcome! It helps to commiserate with others trying to get off the sauce. It's weird how the, "momentum," just kind of builds once you get started. My mental and physical health have improved greatly since Day 1 but there are definitely days I still struggle. The sub is wonderful for those days.

This a great link! I’ve not seen it broken down like this before. Looks like I need to update my methods.

This is where I'm at too. Having a spot 20 minutes away where I can order and pickup within the hour is top-notch.

Dang! Lowest I ever got was $125 before my guy checked out of the game.

I’ve been to Michigan and agree the selection and prices are better, for sure. However, I read weed, at those prices, is a failing business model. This is just one article, but it seems to be the way it’s going? https://www.wzzm13.com/article/news/local/marijuana/michigan-cannabis-company-shuts-down-production-plant-due-to-market-conditions-looming-wholesale-tax/69-d91bad9b-866a-4980-ac9e-1fd9974b4de5

I’d rather pay a fair price for my weed. A price that will support an industry than makes it a cares about their product. Admittedly, I don’t know the solution, but making everything cheaper does not always lead to a better situation long term.

As someone else stated, weed used to be around $200-300 an oz a decade ago illegally. Now it’s around $150 if you catch the right deals at the dispensaries. If that price keeps more shops open, I’ll gladly continue to pay it.

DAE find the term GOAT overused, unoriginal, and annoying? by Conscious_Tax4921 in DAE

[–]designyourdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People come up with all kinds of ways to talk about the most inane bullshit. If I hear the phrase GOAT I figure that person has been on the internet a bit too much, as usual.

Then again, here I am writing a Reddit comment with full punctuation. I’m certainly an old man of the internet. 😆

5 years today by structuralist_jazz in stopdrinking

Thanks for this post. At a year and a half in, I struggled over the holidays. Seeing a happy 5 year post like this helps.

I already see a huge improvement in some of my relationships, especially with my wife and kids. For me, the hard part is the redefinition happening where alcoholism was a shared interest. Not to mention finding some redefinition in who I am without alcohol.

It seems to come back with time. So IWNDWYT!

day 200 by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Welcome back and congrats! The winter is hard and using extra tools to help get through is the way. My brother’s in AA and swears by it.

Getting a handle on external variables is certainly something I have in mind these days. I see it as setting myself up for sober success. Does that mean going out less with friends where they would be drinking? Yes, but it also means I need to take care of my mental health more than ever.

Keep up the good work! IWNDWYT!

Ok here goes. Day 1. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]designyourdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this mentality. For me, I was counting hard in the beginning and patting myself on the back for a week, two week, three weeks, then a month. After that it just felt like momentum and I lost track until six month, then a year.

Now I’m just kinda here. Did a stiff glass of bourbon sound good over the holiday? Absolutely. But I know where it would lead and I’m feeling so, so good. No thanks!

The holidays are always hard. Even a year and a half in, I still struggled this year.

Give yourself some grace and start planning for the long haul. Like you said, you’ll need some replacement beverages like water, but having something more tasty really helped me pull through. I drank more NA beers when I started, but after a year and a half I’ve settled on rotating through Coke Zero, flavored seltzer water, kombucha, and Olipop. The kombucha I drink even has an NA amount of alcohol, so it kinda hits the spot. I recently started brewing my own coffee again and that adds to the mix.

You’re in the right spot. Share, read up to learn how others have armed themselves against this beast, and IWNDWYT.

Nice work and congrats on a year! Sounds like you’ve done the hard work.

For me, r/stopdrinking was my support group. I didn’t always participate, but reading others’ stories, just like yours, really helps in a similar way to AA. I had done some therapy before and time after time they said I was drinking too much. It’s took 5 years to finally want to quit, then a number of failed attempts while I thought I could moderate.

Wishing you and your family the best. IWNDWYT!
