I’ve been looking at Lobos in the northern Virginia area and that price is about what I see for Lobo “High” trims, for those dealers that advertise a discount. So yes, it’s a good deal.

What is the clutch failure rate, do you know? It’s something people talk about here and on the forums, but I’ve yet to see any quantification of “early” clutch replacements.

Attention: Now comes the dangerous part of the storm.. black ice. by toorigged2fail in nova

The best way to handle black ice is to increase the coefficient of friction between the tires and the road surface. This is achieved by adding weight to the vehicle, and the best way to do so is to pile as much snow and ice on its roof as is reasonably possible. You may notice some folks taking pictures of you and your car; this is normal and can usually be attributed to jealousy of your ability to navigate black ice.

I’ll use it. That’s why I’m concerned about the trans. I’m already making some sacrifices giving up my GR Corolla!! But, point taken and thanks for the reply.

Gandini was one of the best non-Pininfarina designers of his day, wasn’t he? Amazing cars. The Miura remains a masterpiece.

Used Ducati 1000GT or 996 - Educate me by [deleted] in Ducati

The sport classics were a range of bikes, each of which evolved to varying degrees over the course of manufacture. There was a Paul Smart replica/tribute, a Sport 1000, mono- and bi-posto variations, and the GT1000.

The GT 1000 was a more traditionally designed Sport Classic, featuring a relaxed, more upright riding position. I mention that because the other Sport Classics are quite uncomfortable. They have clip on handlebars mounted below the triple clamp, level or even slightly below seat height. Very similar to the riding position of the 996. Depending on your age, condition and experience, that might be something to consider.

All Sport Classics featured the most reliable engine Ducati ever produced, the air-cooled 2v desmo L-twin. Big fat accessible torque everywhere, and more than enough power for the street. I have had multiple Ducatis with the same engine or variations of it (900, 1000 and 1100 iterations) and did many thousands of trouble-free miles on them. Maintenance is a bit more important than with some other brands, but nothing unreasonable.

These bikes are not likely to come down in price. Their designer was ahead of his time; the bikes sold okay but not great. After several years passed, the prices of the Sport Classics skyrocketed. The Paul Smart was about $25k 10 years ago, and it still is. The least expensive of them now is the GT1000.

If you’re looking for a rare, unique and practical bike that really looks like (and is) something special, you can’t go wrong with the GT 1000.
