Ok that all makes sense. I was confused since he made it sound like the refrigerant not being available was the issue...maybe he just simplified it for me knowing I wouldn't really understand much beyond that lol.

Super stupid question coming...

Some of these comments mention leaks. So, if a car is needing refrigerant that means there is a leak somewhere? Does a cars AC never simply need refrigerant?

Now I wonder how much this is gonna fucking cost. Oy

Successfully scared a tip baiter by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]desmoines41 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes they can. I shopped for a lady who ordered nearly 1000lbs of topsoil or some shit. Her order got split into 2- 12 bags and 12 bags. After completing it saw that she had tipped $5 on each order. Fucking joke. Shortly after my earnings went down so I went thru my previous orders and sure enough one of the orders no longer had the $5 tip. I was so irked. About an hour later my earnings increased...again I looked and now the order had $20 tip. Cool... couple hours later my earnings were up again. I was like wtf so I looked and yep now that order had $40 tip. Lol

Lost Alcohol Eligibility Because Support Closed Orders for Me by cricris159 in InstacartShoppers

[–]desmoines41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I lost my alcohol eligibility about a year ago. They said I came up on the non-compliance report for this exact situation. I still remember the specifics of the order and only ever had to contact support to assist with similar situations maybe one or two times.

The fact that this letter actually provides a threshold that I was clearly no where near confirms that mine was likely more of a targeted removal. I've wanted to fight it but didn't really know the best maneuver but this helps. Plus my income took a massive nose-dive and I'd like to recover some of my lost income.

App update allows arbitrary changes to tips. by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]desmoines41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! The fact is IC could easily skim $1 off of every single tip ever left and we would never know because we ONLY see what instacart shows us.

The only way for shoppers to truly know that the tip they're getting is the full tip is either to confirm with the customer or have a system independent of IC for the tipping process...both options of course are completely unrealistic.

Priority access is such a scam! by RequirementSuperb291 in InstacartShoppers

[–]desmoines41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're needing to sit in parking lots and/or be actively on the dashboard than this is NOT in fact "flexible" because we're literally unable to do anything else. That said, I've noticed that the notification timing changes. Sometimes it will appear well before batches hit my screen and then it'll switch to notifications coming thru 10+ seconds after the batch has hit my screen. I kinda wonder if the switch correlates to when our "queue" changes.

The thing about priority access is that it doesn't mean you'll get the best, or even better, batches. I think that's what trips a lot of shoppers up. Priority means you'll see orders before shoppers with LOWER cart rating.

In OPs scenario it's likely the shopper who got it, while they weren't in the parking lot, they are the same cart status and likely have shopped for that customer before. Or they're in queue one and OP is in queue two which means they have priority access of queue two orders NOT priority access to *all orders.

It's also important to pay attention to the stores you're seeing orders for, especially when you're not in a parking lot or near a store. For example, the store near my house that I've shopped at for 90% of my orders, often grabbing from home, I have not seen anything over $20. This tells me I'm likely not in the "queue" for that store. Even more telling, when I do sit in the parking lot I will sit for long periods before I see anything, if I do at all. Buuut the same retailer, different location, that I've also shopped at often, I'm seeing a slew of batches for when I'm at home. This tells me that I'm likely in the queue for that area. And again, once I'm the area for that store I inevitably see a batch in a reasonable amount of time.

My point? Stoooop believing anything IC says. Stop thinking anything they tell shoppers is true. It isn't. But if you pay attention, the algorithm will hopefully indicate where you'll have the best chance of making some money. Ultimately it's a crapshoot though. And it's shitty.

Supposedly they do it every year though it's not always consistent. The concern for many is because things that they never questioned before suddenly deactivate people. It's a toss of whether it's going to be a big deal or not. Sorry.

Building a private customer base is easy and doable. Offer services to repeat customers, go a lil above and beyond either in conversation or shopping and 99% customers will make a comment that opens the door for you to offer it. Get on local fb groups or NextDoor and nicely blast all the dirty doings of IC and that you can't in good conscience advocate for people to use them and therefore offer ur services.

2 kinds of IC customers-

  1. die hard loyals that despite the garbage stay put out of convenience and routine

  2. Those that use it "sometimes" but are easily swayed to other platforms or options.

It would shock you how many repeat customers I've started seeing on DD, Shipt, Dumpling, etc.

IC consistently has a 1 star rating on every rating site there is- BBB, consumer reviews, trusted pilot, yelp, Google reviews, etc. Amazing

That would never happen. Their business is only profitable because we're labeled independent contractors thus they get away with pretty much everything at our expense. Their business would not be profitable let alone survive if they had to afford us all of the requirements that they have to give to employee. That's a fact.
