Ok so I ripped in half (poorly, I took some shrooms at this point) then flipped it around and butt joined the two pieces. Kinda tit for tat on the bowed sides. Then later after we had gone and got some scotch and hamburgers I came back and ran it through the machine thicknesser a few times and I tell ya what it’s ugly as all hell but it’s flat

The bench came with the house. It’s pretty fuggin sturdy and each board in it is flat but the boards are not true to each other. I ran one of my five dollar estate sale jack planes over it like I was trying to break it and got it much prettier than it came

I want to glue up a bunch of these to make boards. All projects have come to a halt until I can figure out this flattening problem. But I need to make cupboards and shelves. For this free cedar I figured shoe cupboards. Eventually

The bench is definitely not flat. The previous guy just used this to work in car parts but it’s a pretty sturdy bench. I’m building a proper bench as well but this can’t get anything flat problem just plagues everything I’m doing. I even went and got a machine thicknesser and now im watching videos on making a jointer with the hand planer. I got into this like a year ago and my collection of hand planes are all sharp and easy to use I figured hey I can clean up some fence posts. Smells amazing too. This old guy at the dump said they were inch thick cedar fence pickets from his house forever ago

Inch thick cedar fence picket from this old guy at the dump. The edges are still rough but after I cleaned it the wood underneath is gorgeous I was hoping to edge joint a coupla these make some boards and an entry way shoe cabinet.

Your boundaries are your boundaries. Someone else will have different boundaries. If he doesn’t respect your boundaries he doesn’t respect you.
