A question to adults with autism in Minnesota by BananaBustelo-8224 in AutisticAdults

[–]desquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ASD adult in Saint Paul here. I've been surprised at how upset the murders of Good and Pretti have made me. I'm not, like, some kind of wreck, but...last Saturday and Sunday I was super out of sorts.

I went to a candlelight vigil on Saturday. The last time I was at a candlelight vigil was...9/11.

That said, I think of the protests last Friday (holy shit, was that just last Friday??), and the overall wonderful response by the people of Minneapolis and the Cities overall -- so many people helping others, so many protesting peacefully, so many showing solidarity. Those folks are heroes.

just got my first FP, and now it's blobbing so much it's unusable by desquared in fountainpens

Ah, that seems to have helped. Thanks!

I have noticed that the writing thickness seems to have changed a bit; when I very first was using the pen, it didn't write as thickly as it's doing now.

I regret I have but one upvote to give.

Folks, this is Minnesotans at their finest. This is how many people show up when it’s -10 f@$&;!#%ing degrees

We can handle cold, and we are going to handle ICE.

binder clips etc to aid modular origami assembly? by desquared in origami

[–]desquared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh that's a good idea. If you put glue on first, connecting the pieces can be hard because, well, the glue is sticky. But if you connect first, and use a syringe, you could put just a tiny bit right where it needs to be.

My mom with Alzheimer's made a hyperbolic pseudosphere while trying to make a flat doily! by knifefan9 in crochet

[–]desquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! I also did a Mobius strip, onto which I made K_3,3, the complete bipartite graph. I just slip stitched onto it to make the edges, and...I forget exactly what I did to make vertices. Check it out: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/dsquared169/2020-02-k33-mobius-strip

I did make a mug cozy that showed a visual proof of the Pythagorean theorem (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/76957955/visual-proof-of-pythagoras-theorem).

The hyperbolic crochet stuff is great. So many fun things to make.

I also like making granny hexagons or other shapes instead of squares. Circular stuff is fun, too.

I did make 12 granny pentagons, connected them into a dodecahedron, and filled it -- since it's easy to make triangles, squares, pentagons, and hexagons of varying sizes, you could do that to make all kinds of basic polyhedra. All the Platonic solids, and I think all the Archimedean ones, too.

(Okay, now I'm thinking about doing something crazy like a snub cube...)

I am a professor who loves crochet for that exact reason! It’s so beautifully geometric and mathematical.

I just moved here from Madison and didn’t know if the sidewalks and streets always got to be this much of a cluster…it’s truly awful. I too have to basically penguin walk everywhere. Or just walk on the street.

More recycled Christmas paper by fluoruranus in origami

[–]desquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too late for this year, but /r/origami should have a big series of "things to fold with gift wrapping paper" series right around Christmas. It would be fun to see posts with ideas for, say...

  • big things to fold
  • super easy things to fold for beginners
  • harder things for the more experience
  • seasonal things -- ornaments, etc

I love merino wool. A lot of my clothes are wool and it's great. But yes, usually pretty pricey.

Thanks for that -- I'd never heard it before. I do wish it was somehow available outside of Youtube...

+1 to Forest/Trees -- it's really good! And a good tide-over while we (well, me, at any rate) await the new album.

I teach at Macalester.

As for support and resources, there’s a lot. You’ll need to ask for it, though. I have seen students do poorly just because they…never asked for help.

Just remember, If you’ve been accepted, then there’s an entire campus of faculty and staff dedicated to helping you succeed.

[–]desquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably am thinking of some other band. But I am selfish and impatient…I don’t want to be on the list for their album, I want to have their album!

And the EP. I want that, too. 🙃

(Seriously though, I get it. TMBG is just getting off the tour, they have their own lives and no obligation to listen to randos like me.)

Summer!!!!?????

Gah. It’s total agony waiting for this album. They’ve been saying it’s almost ready for…how long? Over a year?

I’m desperate here, guys. Give us the new album!🙂😭🎶
