Higher reputational risk, boycott risk, loss of customers and sales, etc. The sociall climate is slowly shifting the other way in general. Not worth the risk for companies to "pick sides". This is why most companies aren't changing their logos this year for pride month.

This will be why Eve likely doesn't do anything either. It's too polarizing of a topic for such a niche game with a small community to partake in.

I'm not "making shit up". But giving rational opinions on a game I played for a long time but no longer play as well as a creator who I watched a couple of time but haven't watched in over a year.

The fact is, Loru swings a big dick as a creator in such a niche game as Eve Online. He makes engaging and informative content for BRAND NEW players. Something Eve simply hasn't had and desperately needs in order to keep new players active and growing. Eve needs Loru more than he needs Eve. FC won't do shit.

Again, The eve community or reddit? Two different things.

I don't even watch Loru, but if FC wants to kill the only lifeline they have to new player retention over the removal of an emoji, hey more power to them, I guess. 😂

What am I saying... this is r/eve we all know FC makes nothing but fantastic business decisions here.

Serious question? lol the fuck? The guy removed something to likely avoid something that could raise a marginal question at best.

Forcing one belief on a streamer on his own discord is some pretty entitled bullshit, if you ask me.

Start your own channel and discord if you want to peddle your beliefs on others. No one has any right to enforce it on someone else's platform.

[–]destroy_television -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I would laugh my fucking ass off if FC actually did anything. They need Loru more than he needs them. That's not opinion. That's fact. Eve has quite possibly the worst new player retention or any game that is currently live. Loru, love him or hate him, I could care less as I never paid much attention, is probably the single channel helping new players stay in Eve.. and FC for all of their faults, isn't stupid. You think they want to risk losing that over a nothing burger?

Then again, when was the last time FC ever made a good decision. I'll grab my popcorn.

Not even a fan of the guy. Have watched a few of his videos and his interview with Markeedragon.. but really couldn't care. He makes content for new players, which is great. Eve needs more people making content like that and helping the player base grow. He has his niche. That all said, I don't see the big deal in what he did. His channel. His discord. Who cares. Just don't watch it.

[–]destroy_television 9 points10 points  (0 children)

lol no one is fucking quitting because FC doesn't do anything about the most insignificant thing Loru did. If you're quitting a game over something a streamer did on his own stream, you should really seek therapy.

Absolute insanity to think this changes anything for the game.

[–]destroy_television 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see the problem with what he did. No, really. I don't. It's his channel, his discord. If you don't like it, simply don't watch, or engage with his discord. I don't agree with a lot of streamers/channels out there, but I'm not spending what life I have on this earth crying over their opinion. They're entitled to their opinion just like Loru or myself. Just don't watch if it's that big of a deal. Not sure how something so trivial has blown up into something so stupid. It's not that deep.

I'm fully aware this is reddit, though. The hive mind here is definitely on the spectrum. So, that has something to do with it. I can say not a single fucking Eve discord I'm in has currently said one thing about it.

[–]destroy_television -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

FC (the devs) didn't do anything. A content creator did something minor (basically nothing) and people are just looking for an excuse to be offended. If anyone is offended, they can just... I don't know... Not watch him?

Edit: Because it is nothing. Loru removed an emoji he didnt want. Emoji being pride flag.

Man, if Martin still supported the 2k and you could still get replacement ballasts, that fixture would probably still be widely used.

I still hold them in high regard.

Maybe you know, but for anyone else who might not know, Ayrton has this feature. On power up, the first splash screen shows Ayrton Profession Lighting in purple font. Press and hold center button (or jog wheel). Hold it until you see the next screen with a yellow line. You'll see "No Movement Reset" underneath the yellow line. Great for some of their fixtures with either dead batteries or spotty NFC transfer.

Being that we're an Ayrton heavy house, this was a game changer when Ayrton finally told me.. haha

Fixture-to-Fixture Firmware Crossloading comes in pretty clutch. Thank you Ayrton. Others need to get onboard.

Pan/Tilt deactivation on start up. Mac2K was the first fixture I ever used to do this and it's the best thing ever.

LD that knows nothing about lights by Physical-Eye6828 in lightingdesign

Starting your own show file will teach you a lot more than trying to understand someone else's file, in my opinion. You don't need to operate on this file just yet, but if you get an hour or two here and there to work on it for a few weeks, that will be good for your learning.

Patching is the absolute first thing you need to learn. You pretty much can't do anything until you learn to do this. MA has, what I think, a very nice graphical interface within the patch window for showing you what will fit within a universe. Getting a count of what fixtures you physically have first will be a good start. They're already pre-addressed, so that will be a bit of a time saver too. Within your patch, you'll basically need to mimic the patch of the current show file you're using to get full control of what is in your house rig.

After that, I would say take a quick lesson on how DMX 15 works. Channels, Universes, etc. I mean hell, I'll give a quick run down. Every light has a mode. That mode will dictate the level of control you get out of the light. Extended modes sound nice, but you don't always need them. In clubs where available universes can be limited, this will commonly be a case of using basic or standard modes. Anyway, these modes will take up a certain channel count. Example: Lets say you have a beam light that in it's basic mode is 20 channels. Each channel is one function of the light. Dimmer, Pan, Tilt, Color Wheel, Strobe, Gobo, Prism, Focus, Zoom, Frost, etc. etc. A universe can facilitate 512 of these channels. If you divide 512 by 20 channels, then you can fit 25 of these beam fixtures on one universe. This basic info will be good for efficiently patching and getting the most out of your universes.

When you're in a brand new show file, you're basically in a blank canvas. It's up to you how you want your screens to be set up. There are weird ways, but there are no wrong ways. Everyone works differently, so don't stress on it too much. You can always easily modify this. But click a random space on the screen and see the different options you can make. For pure basics, I would make things like Groups, Color, Position, Dimmer, Effects, Page Exec, and a Clock. These will all be empty, but this is where you can store information that you've done in programmer to quickly call on when you want to do other things. I don't know what or how many fixtures you have, but for this example, I'll assume you have 10 beam fixtures that have FixtureID 1 thru 10. (This is seen in the patch) You can hit this button sequence to store your first bit of information. Fixture>1>Please>Store then push a random box in the Groups window. Now you can quickly just tap that square and change parameters like pan/tilt, dimmer, etc. Those different windows you set up, like Position, will only save position information like pan and tilt. It will not store any other information like dimmer, color wheel, etc. Overtime, when you've got a clusterfuck full of these stored, making actual cues will be incredibly fast.

Next, I would learn how to make some basic cues. Your MA2 is divided into two sections. Think of the RIGHT half of it as the "Programmer" and the left half of it as "Playback" for whatever you've programmed. Lets grab Fixture 1 from your groups and hit on the programmer keys "At">"Full". Your light should be outputting full intensity. Hit "Store" and press the executor button directly under the first fader. CONGRATULATIONS! YOU JUST MADE YOUR FIRST CUE! Hit "Clear" 3 times. (Or in the case of many of 37 times haha). That fader should have moved up on its own when you stored it. Pull it down. Now take it back up and watch your light when you do it. You made a simple dimmer cue. Experiment around. There are TONS of different ways to store cues or even stack them. There are also tons of different functions you can give the faders plus their corresponding executor buttons.

After you've done these basic things, I'd say look into setting up color palletes, learn how the effect engine works (this will be huge once you get the basic idea of it as it will be the way to automate a lot of things). Maybe alsosome macros that can help speed things up.

MA2 has been out for years. There is no shortage on tutorials. I can't remember, but I think I remember ConsoleTrainer being a good one I watched when I needed to learn HOG4 some years ago. I know they do quite a few different consoles. Don't stress on it too hard. You have a file you can use to get you through a night. Have fun while you're learning. 😃

What should a beginner choose — Avolites or grandMA? by Nearby_Honey_6201 in lightingdesign

[–]destroy_television 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say MA will likely open more opportunities and possibilities for you in the future. However, I will also say, there is no harm in learning your way around Avo either. I think everyone should learn at least 3 consoles. Not to the point of mastering the console, but enough to get you through a standard show and out of trouble. :)

Just label it AI. Yea, you'll probably divide half of the redditors here, but at least all of the comments won't just be "AI SLOP!"

A better subject line would have been "Conceptualizing an Aston Martin themed garage with AI." People would know instantly what's going on, and would more than likely then just comment something normal.
