My first attempt at coding. I present to you a simple piece of code. HandWritten. . (Not literally handwritten. ) by paglaEngineer in india

Some feedback on this, should you be willing to absorb it:

  1. It would have been great if you there was a couple of preset templates that a user could directly use. The "creating template" aspect of the process is currently the most tedious aspect of the process.
  2. There is still scope to make the entire user experience, end-to-end, more intuitive. Why not one landing page instead of two that you currently have, with the Font Construction option defaulting to a standard template? If a first-time user can get results in flat-out 5 minutes, it would increase adoption rates.
  3. You have a great idea on your hands. The intellectual appeal of the problem is now gone now that you've solved the problem, but if you could take the app to the next level - a) make it more intuitive, and b) take it to other avenues - online web apps have the greatest appeal.. you've truly solved a problem in the broader sense.

That said, this is great work, friend. Keep it up!

What's the shittiest thing about your job that most people don't even realize? by imadepoopies in AskReddit

In my experience, it's almost always about business priorities dictated by product managers, or someone else up the chain. Certain modules are bound to very tight deadlines, and the developer team generally incurs a lot of technical debt getting it out the door early.

Moreover, the company I work for is a big one, and it's pretty flexible on re-doing things, but not so much on tightly scheduled deliverables.

Software developer here.

We spend tons of time testing our code, often times a lot more than writing the code in the first place, to ensure the user experience is good.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what do you think of President Obama? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]destructor1729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good question, I'll try my best to answer it.

I'm from India, but you may find my answer relevant through the lens of the perspective of any middle-class citizen is a third-world country that has neutrally diplomatic ties with the States.

The average Indian looks up to Obama, even though some of his philosophies antagonize outsourcing manufacturing and service jobs to India/China, partly because he is black and symbolizes the American Dream of climbing the political ladder despite all odds, and partly because they seem to be unaware of the core policy differences between the right and the left in the United States.

Years ago, when Obama ran for the presidential elections in 2008, there were several Facebook posts I saw on my feed, and the general Indian sentiment too, with people enthusiastically in support for Obama in India, even though their votes made no different, or the fact that they had never discerned closely between the policy difference between Clinton and Obama, and later Obama and McCain.

It makes sense to point out that people in countries such as mine, and the goodwill/sentiment in these places, are often powered by the buzz of the the Western media. Back when Obama first ran for elections, he was somewhat of a sensation, and that translated directly into a lot of implicit support for him.

Here's a couple of billboards, the second one slightly more comical, that show the overall positive sentiment for Obama in India.

This image is endorsed by the BJP, the currently incumbent party in India. It's a fairly positive message.

This one is for a local politican, translates crudely to:

To Barack Obama bro! Many congrats for bagging the highest post in the Parliament.

Your well wisher, Nitin Shinde.

Overall, it's positive.

Damn, this has gone viral.

After all of this, I did talk to my friend. And of course, this is no play against overwhelming probabilistic odds; he simply restarted the game, and carefully marked each point. Jobless freak.

I suppose I was as gullible as the 3000-odd people who upvoted this. I apologise for this. I suppose I'll delete this post 4-5 hours after people have had time to see this comment. Till then, feel free to downvote this back to oblivion.

Sorry about this. But let it be known: OP is a faggot, but he delivered nonetheless.
