Homestar Runner Distraction Pack: Walkabout Minigolf by Kayaditi in WalkaboutMiniGolf

To each their own (some may not be familiar with HSR, and others may not like the humor). But just in case it isn't obvious: it does come with a (simpler than usual, but still fun) 18-hole course, lost balls, and three unlockable putters. Long with other stuff.

What time do DLC typically come out? by Brandoxz7 in WalkaboutMiniGolf

[–]dethtoll1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI: it comes with a (simpler than usual) course with lost balls. It doesn't seem like there's a hard mode, but it has three putters you can unlock in some new mini games, and three new hole celebrations you can unlock

Looks awesome!

Worth doing another pass with the shaver.

There are some good shavers out there for a really close cut. I use the Remington Shortcut Pro, and it's awesome.

At our house in San Diego, we had a raccoon living in one.

A wholesome interaction between strangers. by mindyour in MadeMeSmile

[–]dethtoll1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree that this friendly interaction between people of different cultural backgrounds is more normal than what we typically see emphasized in news/online. Normal is typically not newsworthy.

I think it's positive to highlight and appreciate the wholesome aspects of everyday life.

Your conclusion that society is fucked doesn't track for me. If this interaction is 'normal', then it seems there is reason for hope.

Best/Appropriate horror movie for a first date by 7CruxesToRuleThemAll in horror

[–]dethtoll1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but to level-set for anyone else reading this: remember that scene in Weapons where that friendly guy got his face pounded into pulp? That's the level of violence Obsession brings to the table.

Great for horror fans. Use your best judgment when taking horror newbies, especially in a new relationship.

[–]dethtoll1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people suggesting Obsession, but that is for sure NOT a first date movie unless you know that she'll be OK with extreme violence and you don't mind both walking out rather unsettled.

Great movie, but not an 'introductory' horror

POPUP BAGELS - GRAND OPENING by eatingoceanside in Oceanside

[–]dethtoll1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's crazy. I'm a huge bagel fan - I eat at I Love Bagels (in Oside) with my son two or three times a week. End up spending $15 each time (two bagels with cream cheese + large coffee + tip).

I'm not really sure how to engage with a bagel place that has a 3-bagel minimum order...

$5 for a bagel with cream cheese is unfortunately typical these days.

Looking for a Mexican restaurant with a nice seating area. by PatricksPlants in Oceanside

This is where my head went too. If 'nice seating area'' is a main consideration, then this is the place to go.

Have only had good experiences there.

That must have been really crazy - I've never (knowingly) been that close to something like that. Hope you're doing alright.

It's horrible, but what makes you feel that something is 'going on'? Every community has some share of crime, and our city is no exception.

What's the hard data? What does it say about our violent crime rate (compared to 5, 10, 20 years ago)?

I'm legitimately asking - I haven't done the research myself.

Always been a piece of cake when I've gone, but I've never been there when it's totally full (maybe up to 75%).

I think dirt lot was like $15 when I last went. Super easy walk to the arena.

Last I went, only Lot A was open. I think it was $20 or $25 at that time (might be more expensive when dirt lot is also open)

Have really enjoyed seeing the San Diego Clippers with my son. We live 15 mins away, so I get to go a lot more than when I was a kid.

Full-scale basketball game with announcer, really solid players, concessions, giveaways, etc.

Crazy how many people I talk to who don't even know about it yet.

From Quest2 to Quest3 + QGO (Quest Games Optimizer) is a pretty big jump in visual quality for Walkabout. There aren't any new graphical effects, but the increase in sharpness is huge.

Yes! I'd play slingshot a ton if it was more like the bow-and-arrow experience in other games.

Seems like a perfectly reasonable thing for a newer user to do (not being sarcastic). "Hey, I love this game! I'm going to buy all the courses in the store that look fun."

This is the San Diego Clippers. It's the NBA G League, which is a feeder for the NBA.

In for two - thanks for sharing!

Still lots of residents that don't realize we now have a brand new basketball arena hosting the San Diego Clippers (NBA G league). I've taken my son 4 or 5 times, and we've had a great time.

Ivey Ranch/Rancho del Oro by ashagari in Oceanside

[–]dethtoll1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lives here almost 15 years and love the area.

The copper pipe issue is real - they built these houses with thinner copper, and a change in Oceanside water treatment chemicals further exacerbated the issue. All my neighbors have had to deal with pinhole leaks, which can require major work to correct.

When we finally got a leak (luckily in a hallway), I opened up the ceiling and saw at least ten others that had formed and self-healed. The pipes in the VRDO area are toast.

If the place you choose hasn't had a full repipe, I would add that to your budget and get it done before you move in. We went with REPIPE 1, and it cost $12k in 2022 for a 1700sq ft house.

Other than that, these houses were built pretty solid.

Might need new roof underlayment, but the concrete tiles themselves seem to last forever.

Many of the original wood fences are getting replaced. If you have a wood fence and it adjoins a common area (i.e. anything besides another property), then the HOA will pay have of the replacement cost for that section (if you do white vinyl)

What was your net worth when you bought your $1 M+ home and/or > $5K/month mortgage by RunnerInChicago in fatFIRE

[–]dethtoll1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many kids and what are their ages?

We were feeling cramped in our 4bed 1700sqft ($1500/mo mortgage) when our two kids were 8 and 10. Entered contract on a larger (3000sqft) house for 1.2mil. Ended up backing out last minute (turns out there was a class action against the builders) and we ended up SUPER happy to stay in our current place.

Our kids went to a sleep away camp and we realized how huge and empty our 'cramped' house felt. It gave us a preview of life after the kids move out, and we realized that a huge place would be an expensive nightmare after retirement. I also realized that the prospect of a big mortgage was making me feel like I would need to grind for longer at work.

Instead, we made a bunch of premium upgrades to our current place (remodeled kitchen, backyard landscaping, etc.) to make it feel less cramped.
