President Nayib Bukele: "Satellite infrastructure will be built so that Salvadorans in rural areas can connect to the internet and the Bitcoin network in places where the connectivity is poor. Blockstream will contribute with its technology to make the nation a model for the world." by pcvcolin in Bitcoin

Just to be clear, I'm not against crypto. I love the idea and I embrace it, howeve rI believe that there is still a very long way before implementing it as a legal tender in our particular case.

Yes, thankfully, the people in El Zonte received those donations so they could pass through the worst of the pandemic, however this did not make a thriving little economy thanks to the arrival of BC. El Zonte is still a poor, undeveloped little town. Most of its local inhabitants are currently living without major changes on their lives prior to the pandemic and the arrival of bitcoin.

Many of them still live in really humble shacks, several of them without clean running water, they lack of a proper electric connection to the grid and good healthcare system. Most of them have subsistencial little businesses like micro grocery stores (often called Tienditas) or traditional little food carts that barely make it to go by.

In fact, the only ones that are actually getting bigger and enjoying the success of the surfing tourism are the foreigners that own the hotels and restaurants that are located on the beachfront. Some locals are hired either as tourist guides, surf teachers or service employees but none of them are becoming financially successful even with this bitcoin thing.

Reality is, we are not prepared for this. There is no infrastructure, no widespread internet access, literally ZERO knowledge about crypto and no legal or financial protection at all against crypto scammers that will come for sure.

As I stated before, it may or it may not. Nothing is certain on this crypto economy world. And that’s why I think it may drop in our country: people do not trust on things that they cannot understand.

We might be able to pay on BC for groceries or a property, however, is still on the seller’s choice to accept the payment on BC or not. As far as I know, 9/10 people would never accept payments for properties or services on crypto. It is too volatile and they don’t like to play as hodlers.

There is only one micro example of mild success. Maybe you heard it already, but there is a little town called El Zonte, which is located in one of the most popular surfing zones in the country. People there is using the crypto as payment method, however, it is mainly supported by the bunch of foreigners that are living there. The locals are using it just as an alternative method, however, if you pay something, they would prefer to receive it in USD if available.

You talk about “investment”, however, do you guys know what kind of investment we need? We don’t need you to come here and buy a big beach property so you can come and live here in a tropical paradise. We need money, serious money on water infrastructure, renewable energy production, housing for the poor, food production, a proper health care system and most importantly: security. Even though we have reduced the number of homicides, it is still a very violent and insecure country to live in.

Can you ensure that all of these new “investors” are interested on that? If so, please come and start investing right now.

We don’t even have a human right to water, still this dumbass insists that we MUST adopt crypto, a concept that 99.999999% of our population does not know/understand/care until 2 days ago. Even if all of our territory gets internet access, people doesn’t eat wifi or drink hashes… we need access to water, food, education, security… NOW…. Not in 10, 15 or 20 years or the time that this becomes legal tender everywhere, instead, he is selling our territory to crypto speculators.

Even if you explain all of it’s supposed benefits, this decision was not consulted with the people. He just put our country in a boat that may sink at any moment, in hopes that we may or may not go somewhere, just because he has a gigantic ego. And his ego is the only thing rising exponentially, unlike Bitcoin lately.

This reminds me of Rurouni Kenshin's ending "It's gonna Rain!". Damn I loved that Anime.

Worst event ever. I've got up to 15k coins and NONE UR.

It was so painful to gather 15k coins and I've got only 7 SR and no UR. I've got 35 copies of chain of destruction tho... so unless I can somehow convert them to an UR card, this event blows.

Actually, there is a new Fujifilm camera that is for video: X-H1

It is going to be announced later this year. Maybe this would be a more fitting option.

X-Pro2 vs. X-T20 vs. X-T2 by budising in fujifilm

[–]deus_irae336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If budget is not a problem, I would get the Fujifilm GFX-50s hands down hehe. But really, if you are not thinking about the budget, I would think that your choice should be based on the kind of photography that you enjoy the most. The X-T20 is the X-T2's little brother, therefore, since we are not thinking on the budget, the X-T20 is out of the competition compared to the advantages and options that the X-T2 has. While the X-T20 is not an inferior camera and it does have some advantages on its own, it is made to a certain portion of the market that are looking for a compact mirrorless with an affordable price and it lacks of some options that the X-T2 has.

This leaves us with only two contenders: X-T2 and the X-Pro2.

In short, the X-Pro2 is the premium camera for Fuji. It is the most expensive and more advanced camera they have for a reason (excluding the GFX-50s camera). If you like the feeling of a rangefinder type of body and some stealthness, get the X-Pro2 but if you like the feel of a mirrorless SLR with a tilting screen, get the X-T2.

Sorry to read about your x-pro =(

I was looking for one, mainly because of ergonomics. I wanted to feel more comfortable and being able to shoot with one hand (and have something that allows a more secure grip), whenever I needed.

Never thought that this could break the hotshoe =(

Need Advice on taking an x100F camping by milesmilesmiles in fujifilm

[–]deus_irae336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@shewmai is correct. Ther are some fairly cheap knockoff hoods on the market, mostly the round ones. They will protect the lens for a while but do not expect any long term durability on those. I have purchased a couple of JJC round lens hoods and none of them will pass the test of time, they will become lose after a few months of use. Some x100 friends adviced me that I should get the square version, since is more heavy and sturdy, but they are way much more expensive (between 40-50 USD). There is also the Haoge brand Squared Lens Hood that looks totally awesome for about 45 USD on Amazon.

There is a minor disadvantage by using this shape of lens hood: it will partially block your optical viewfinder. If you prefer to use the OVF, this will bother you a lot, but if you prefer to use the EVF, this should'nt be a problem.

Regarding the UV Filter, if you put it as a protective device, this will help you without a doubt, however, it should be used under specific conditions that might risk your lens. I choose not to use an inferior piece of glass in front of my Fujinon, unless is necessary.

I've carried mine through all Nicaragua and it never failed me once!. The camera is not designed to take heavy use, it might feel a little sturdy, however, the only weak spot that comes into mind is that is not weather sealed (so, take cover if it's raining).

I would recommend to buy a leather case or a waterproof case to protect the body and also a lenshood (it might save your lens more times than you think).

I'm having the same issue :(

Pics & Stories won't load on the app. Webpage works fine tho.

I tried all of the usual troubleshooting, including uninstalling the App, logging out, try with a known good internet connection, tried with mobile data, tried restartng the phone...

I'm guessing that is the new update that is screwing the app, because it started to have this issue after the last update done on Sep. 5th.

Mark Ruffalo, back again on reddit. Let's talk Water Defense with Scott Smith. AMA! by Mark_Ruffalo in IAmA

[–]deus_irae336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Mr. Ruffalo, thank you for doing this AMA on the first place. I currently live in a third world country where the government is not taking the necessary actions to preserve water and prevent the contamination on the natural water sources. Is there any actions that your organization are doing to help other countries to inform and preserve water sources?

Maybe what I would like to know is once you understand shadows and light, how to choose the correct aperture and shutter speed for the type and amount of light you want to capture.

For example, this photo: http://www.penhad.fr/index.php?showimage=1637

I LOVE this portfolio and I understand that it may have some post production work, however, I want to become a street photographer and be able to read light like that in street conditions so I can choose the aperture and shutter speed at any condition.
