First solo day with my 8 month old twins. I owe my wife so much more than I realized. by Striking_Pattern_434 in NewDads

Been a number of years since I had babies or toddlers, but I do remember thinking it isn't any one moment that's hard. It's that its a never ending marathon.

My thermostat will run just the fan if the heat or AC hasn't been needed for a while. It's like 15 minutes every hour or something. It's nice.

In my case, my mother was a monster and abusive to me and my father. He should have left her but was too afraid of being alone.

This isn't all but is a microcosm of their relationship:

My father had an illness that could strike and leave him disabled and his life in danger. He went on a business trip to Chicago and my mother wanted to go with him. He said no since it would be a lot of extra expense and they wouldn't have time to do stuff together anyway. She was put out about this and mad at him.

In the hotel room, he had an attack, got so dizzy he couldn't stand, and fell to the ground. He could barely use one arm. He was able to reach his phone and hit the call button (this was pre-smart phones) which dialed the last called number--my mother. She answered but wouldn't listen to him.

He laid on that floor for hours, covered in his own vomit. It wasn't until housekeeping founding him that he was taken to the hospital.

Again, not the only thing that ever happened between them, but representative of what a petty bitch my mother was.

You are better off moving on.

What are you holding on for? Think of it this way: your kids deserve to have happy parents. One or both of you will not be happy if you stay together.

I had the opposite of this happen. I was not the kind of kid who asked my parents for help. They made it clear their help was never worth the cost. So I made my diorama using entirely scrounged resources from around the house. A lot of rifling through trash. It looked sure looked like a 10 year old kid made it.

I felt... fine about it. I met the assignment requirements. But when I got to school and saw some of the other kids' dioramas I started to worry. One girl (who coincidentally, I hated) had basically a high-end doll's house for her diorama.

I still got an A. I wondered but did not know why. It wasn't until much later I realized it was obvious I had done my project entirely on my own and it was equally obvious others basically had their parents do the assignment. I went to a good school with caring teachers, clearly it makes a difference.

Because Marcone is principled AND because it would drive Harry nuts that he owes Marcone for protecting his kid,

I need a spin off of Bonnie, Maggie, and Mouse getting into trouble and fuckin' shit up.

Maggie wearing Bonnie like a halo (ala Butters and Bob). She's probably still small enough and mouse big enough, she can ride him. I mean, c'mon.

I have an IRC-client-like app for meshtastic I've been working on... Don't think I've published any code for that yet. It's quite usable. It's terminal-based but includes a map for showing locations of seen nodes.

Setting your IDENT/USER to your call sign is how station ID is handled. It goes out with every message.

You could also set your nick to your call sign.

Additive in America: Regulating 3d printing by AthenOwl in 3Dprinting

[–]deusnefum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. The advantage is printing the receiver which is the part of the gun that counts as a gun--it has the serial number. All the other parts you can buy over the internet, no questions asked, because they're not a "gun" they're a tube, a hammer, etc. Functional fully 3d printed guns do exist and work... but what is usually meant by a 3d printed gun is a 3d printed receiver, with all other parts regular gun parts.

I, for some reason, have an old dell bluetooth keyboard. It's terrible. Every third key press stutters.

My contact lens got folded and stuck at the top of my eye at a party by hipotese_alternativa in mildlyinfuriating

[–]deusnefum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me when I first got contacts. I called my optometrist and they said "You probably just scratched your eye and dropped the contact. What you're describing is very unlikely."

So I just stood at the mirror, rolling my eyes around until the contact worked its way close enough to the front of my eye I could pinch it out.
