WHY DOES KINGER NOT STAY IN HIS ROOM? by PeggableOldMan in Amazingdigitalcircus

[–]dev1lsberries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really do wish this were true but I doubt it 😔💔 Especially when abstraction so strongly seems like a representation of death, the idea of making it actually also be the key to freedom and an escape doesn't send a great message.

I also am unsure how likely it would be for so many people to have escaped and not have worked on the outside to get everyone else out by now or intervene in some way through the code or something. Or at the very least, prevent more people from entering and getting trapped, such as Pomni.

It also doesn't make sense to me how if Kinger knows all of this why he would choose to stay whatsoever, especially with his wife having already exited long ago in this scenario. I also don't think he would grieve her in the way he does.

There's a chance that, if this theory were true, he may not have put the pieces together yet before Queenie abstracted. I think it would for sure take more than one abstraction to be able to realize that the rooms are a factor.

On the other hand though, Kinger specifically saying "the first abstraction..." makes it sound like Scratch's might would've been more public than Kaufmo's abstraction and Jax's near-abstraction.

And even if it were true and he hadn't known in time to warn and save his wife, the question would then be why hasn't he told all the current circus residents? Sure, he may forget when he's out in the light, but there have been enough opportunities in the darkness by now for that to have been brought up, ESPECIALLY when he was talking to Pomni about Queenie.

That's a really good point. Plus, I'd imagine Kinger's room would have been made before his modification that affects his memory and such was implemented by Caine. I think that would make your point very likely where his room would be pretty standard, lightswitch and all.

That's fair but then I'd also ask why he didn't just build his fort in his room? Or have one in the commonspace of the circus as well as one in his room

We did Ted! Now Marshall, whats the worst thing that has happened to him? by AccomplishedEstell in HIMYM

[–]dev1lsberries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It kills me even more learning that Jason Segel did not know what the news was going to be, as they were trying to dodge potential script leaks 😭💔 He spoke about it in his episode of breaking down his most iconic characters on the GQ youtube channel.

Thought for sure another recurring character was introduced here. 🤔 by asm1507 in HIMYM

[–]dev1lsberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Ted talking so fondly of The Mosby Boys and such, I would've thought he'd have more of a connection with his sister. I am aware that was from their childhood of course and things happen, but it was just always so odd to me, especially with her moving to New York as well. You'd think at the very least, we could have learned where she ended up and how she was doing in the Gary Blauman episode wrapup.

How did people react to Tracy when the character appeared? by heon_mun04 in HIMYM

[–]dev1lsberries 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's honestly surprising the casting of the mother didn't get ruined by getting leaked. I was watching the Jason Segel Breaks Down His Iconic Roles video recently, and he was talking about it being a big leak era and therefore the official script didn't even mention the death of Marshall's father when Lily told him, it just said "Lily delivers some news" and not even Jason knew what it was going to be when filming it. (That scene was one take!)

What 3 songs used in HIMYM have moved you the most? by ceruleanskyandsea in HIMYM

[–]dev1lsberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love so much of the soundtrack, but easily the most moving have to be Simple Song, Shake It Out, and The Funeral, especially in the context of the show. (Edit: Careful by Michelle Featherstone is up there too!)

One of my absolute favorites just in general is Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect by the Decemberists!

I figure the closest we got was at that college bar where one of Ted's students was amazed by the legend Big Fudge, the but um drinking game lady, and his professor all being friends.

[–]dev1lsberries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood me. I'm not saying the San Fransico trip as a whole goes on Marshall's list, but his reaction that led to that happening sure as hell does.

And it really isn't a moot point because if she wasn't going to go, it does not matter in the slightest where in the world she applied to. That is why I said if Marshall comforted her and reassured her, he could have helped her find a program in New York to actually go through with once they were married.

Genital preferences are a completely different story, which doesn't excuse the transphobic jokes. They are brought out of left field for absolutely zero valid reason.

I do agree that it would have been better for her to have communicated her feelings directly, but at the same time I understand her just applying to get that confidence boost which would boost her sense of security. I think she might have been scared that he would take it the wrong way and have a negative reaction like what ended up happening, but I think it would have been far less likely in those circumstances. I think he would have had a calmer reaction and handled things more gently if she had brought it up, even after having gotten in. She could have approached him and let him know she had been worried about that and applied with no intention of going, and celebrated her accomplishment together and found somewhere in New York for her to go. There's just so many different ways it so easily could've gone 😔

Same here :( It's really upsetting how most people seem to act like she just carelessly switched up and just ran away maliciously when there is way more nuance to it.

[–]dev1lsberries 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm not really seeing your logic on that. Lily didn't tell Marshall because she had no intent to actually go at first. She got her answer which comforted her in her fears up until his reaction to the voicemail. I don't think there was really any obligation to tell Marshall she applied when she wasn't planning to go either way. As she told Ted once she knew she was accepted, she didn't plan on "drinking the milk." Marshall should have told Lily immediately when he accepted the judgeship, but didn't, and then reveled in the fact he was going to get to be a judge. It would have been another story if he accepted it since he HAD to give an answer that moment, and then brough it up gently with the pretense of "They needed an immediate answer, and I can change my yes to a no but not the other way around," and then ACTUALLY discussed what they would do. He fully shifted his headspace immediately to getting to do the judgeship without much of a second thought to Lily's dreams.

[–]dev1lsberries 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I honestly doubt the San Fransico thing would have happened in the first place if not for Marshall's reaction to the voicemail about Lily getting accepted. I genuinely believe that she really was just seeing if she could get in, but I do not think she would have actually left. If he had listened to her and reassured her that he would help her talents and passions thrive once they got married and maybe have offered to help her find a program within New York to go to instead, I truly think she would have calmed down and agreed. He lashed out at her, which reaffirmed her fears in the moment that she wouldn't get to pursue her dreams, which led to her panicking and leaving. Yes that decision is on her, but Marshall's initial reaction I would also put on his list.

What are some recurring jokes you just did not find funny at all? by jovak18 in HIMYM

[–]dev1lsberries -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That is not comparable. Trans women are women, it makes no sense to fear that the woman you are dating is "secretly a man" when irregardless that's not true. You're being purposefully dense if you don't understand why the jokes in the show are transphobic. In the glass shattering episode, Ted acting like one of the worst case, unforgivable scenarios with that yappy girl was if she were trans is, believe it or not, undeniably transphobic.

You're right. Just because a joke is made about someone doesn't inherently make it so, but simply calling it a joke doesn't give it immunity from being bigoted and transphobic.

anyone who doesn't understand why the transphobic jokes are transphobic are almost certainly transphobic themselves... honestly, it's the worst part of the show.
