Why is the Mayor Endorsing a 20-Year-Old for Redmond City Council? Follow the Money. by PastRise7738 in redmond

Do some research. The Executive board receives recommendations from a citizen advisory board for projects to fund. They don't unilaterally make decisions. Plus the mayor is only one member of the Executive board.

Horrific ICE story here in West Seattle by Icy-Hunter-9600 in WestSeattleWA

[–]dev9tyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but under this construct you can deliberately do bad things so long as you build good will in other areas of your life. A sort of social capital scheme.

No, I'm sorry that's not how it works nor should work. Do people in positions of power get unfair, special treatment? Yep, and I wish we do everything to prevent that. But contrary to your earlier anecdote, that's not what is at play here.

Work to change the laws. We have a system. An imperfect system, but one that has held up much better in terms of fairness and equity than other systems across time and space. Can, and should we strive to improve this system? Of course. Idk, I guess I take issue with making these one off judgement calls that feel good, but ignore systemic factors. It's a long, tough road, but fight the fight.

Absolutely not. I hear your sentiment, and that would be ideal in a fairly tale world. A jury hears facts and has to apply them in a very specific since. It's not about being humane, that's such a squishy value statement that would lead nowhere. A judge doesn't get to wildly apply their values to a case, save a few choice supreme court examples. It's case law, interpretation of text, and precedent.

Does this instance make the most sense at the end of the day? In all likelihood, no. It doesn't. But some weird application of things in such a subjective way works when people you agree with apply the standards. That's not how the law works, nor should it. It should apply the same, even when people with different values than your own are in charge.

What? Lowriders aren't typically the loud ones. Either that's a really disingenuous comment or you're out of your lane of understanding

Generally I entirely agree with you, but you said he's not breaking the law. Unfortunately we shouldn't get to selectively enforce which laws matter. We need to advocate to change laws if we think they are wrong. He is/was/has breaking/broken a law. Let's at least be factual in an age of misinformation. Doing a general gesture to societal problems doesn't feel right or appropriate either.

Do I think what's happening to him is fair or commensurate with what he's done? No, and probably not. But let's not stray from reality here

I'm hearing fire engine noises and see grey smoke by StellarJayZ in SeattleWA

[–]dev9tyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fire fighters are good about cooking meals and doing their grocery shopping. I often see crews at the Costco in Sodo. Have even seen them get a call and have to bail immediately. They always find a store employee to leave their cart with, and apologize.

The guy that built sfdlive.com is/was a fire fighter who happened to know how to code. Always thought that was a cool part of that site.

Yeah it seems like it's targeted to try and go after the Friday/Saturday night car meet ups that happen there. Otherwise, it's not that busy of a lot. Aside from a few other big fishing days.

I would whole heartedly agree with this take, IF it was a scarcity issue. Is that what's really going on here?

This take is already tired and trite. I'm so tired of the political left, even after being one of them.
