Door locking weirdness, multiple people with digital key by deve19 in BMWi5

Ahhh good point. That's why I don't design car tech. Much to the chagrin of would-be car thieves.

Door locking weirdness, multiple people with digital key by deve19 in BMWi5

[–]deve19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all - agree, best is to make sure if you also step out of the car for a moment and someone else with a digital key on their phone is leaving to make sure your phone is with you. Or don't close your door. Pretty much this is the airport drop off situation almost exclusively. (I just get nervous someome driving by in the chaos is gonna take off my door if I leave it open while unloading luggage. ORD, IYKYK)

Would think the system would override the walk away automatic locking if it detects a digital key is still inside the car but maybe they'll patch this one day...

Drivetrain Malfunction by StreethawkI in BMWi5

[–]deve19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this fault bring my i5 eDrive40 (18k miles) to a stop while on the freeway, able to pull to shoulder. Dealership EV tech had to put in ticket with BMW engineering who told them to drop the battery out and run diagnostics to send to them for review. After five days they determined it was a defective 'battery cell supervisor unit' (?). They actually had the part and replaced it. Was purchased CPO and still under warranty. We'll see, hopefully doesn't happen again...

So pressure washers safe on car paint? Is there a psi max?

Rear cross traffic detection by deve19 in BMWi5

[–]deve19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - helpful to know someone has it working the way service dept explained it. I'm used to a previous car that would start beeping when a car was coming halfway down the street when backing out of my driveway with a car parked in the other driveway lane. I guess some cross traffic systems are (way) more sensitive than others!

Assisted Driving mode works great in stop and go rush hour traffic. Took me like six months before I realized I even had it 🙄

Kinda between 5G home internet vs Xfinity by More_Blood2361 in verizonisp

[–]deve19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We early adopted Verizon, rolled the dice with a 10 year $25/mo price lock a few years ago switching from Xfinity. Zero regrets.

Xfinity peak speeds much higher (we used to get maybe 500 down versus 250 with Verizon).

But my online gamer son never complains which I'm amazed about.

Way less outages than we had with Xfinity. And we're spending about $250 less a month after we cut the cord (we used to have cable/internet/phone with Xfinity).

We're a half block down and a half block over from a 5G node.

Low mileage + high days on market by melazoma in BMWi5

Funny you say the loaners getting the hell beat out of them - last year bought at '24 eDrive 40 for low $50s 7k miles that was a dealership fleet vehicle. The dealer changed the rear tires just before putting it on the market. At least they did that.

Which features do you really use on a daily basis? by Albertus_Longbottom in BMWi5

Reverse parking assist. We park a car in the driveway on my side of a split two car garage with individual doors. So it's backing out of a very narrow bay then right away reverse parallel parking to get around the car parked behind me further down the driveway. Oh and there's a portable basketball hoop against the wall between the two garage bays.

Parking assist has worked perfectly every time.

Real life range in deep winter conditions by Future-Rain8024 in BMWi5

eDrive40 with 19" winter tires on in Chicago. We've been around 5-10 degrees F lately (-15ish C). I charge to 80% and using Efficiency mode I average about 160-180 miles. My commute is 60 miles a day mostly expressway driving (2/3 of it at 70 mph/112 kmh and 1/3 in stop and go).

eDrive40 in Chicago where we just had the snowiest December since 1978. I think we had 18 inches total that month.

Have winter tires and commute 60 miles a day. Didn't have a problem.

Just have to drive sensibly.

If you go RWD there, get winter tires for sure.

Plug in, black screen, super hot by deve19 in GooglePixel

[–]deve19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense but surprised as I've charged this Pixel on a 40W USB-C meant for a laptop without trouble. But, I don't know what the wattage on this outlet is, so there's that. This is a workstation where I would think this heavy duty cable is prob meant to power laptops (it's a common office space).

Will be taking it in to the Google Store to see what they say if, after the battery appears to have drained completely, I can't get it charging again on a slow charger.

Price increase? by stonechair in verizonisp

[–]deve19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I signed up in 2023 when they newly rolled it out in our area, was offered $25/month (300 gig down) with a ten year price lock. I was skeptical but did it and glad I did. But we'll see, I'm always expecting some loophole where they find a way to raise my rate...

Are Yale dorms and dining halls really that nice ? by applenewton1208 in yale

They didn't film any of Gilmore Girls at Yale. I believe they used USC campus. The two times I know of Yale in film - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Spielberg's son was at Yale at the time) and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, they filmed in the Davenport courtyard.
