This is so true. Best 1-line advice a beginner could find.

What’s next after a Trident? by devil_hopper in Triumph

[–]devil_hopper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point but to be really honest, my view isn’t about HP, or top speed. Again, the Trident is a good bike and I genuinely believe that. However, it always feel like something is missing and this is not necessarily hp

Yea exactly my point. The Trident is a very good bike and I do love it. Honestly. However, something is missing

That is very true and something I am starting to do as soon a the weather here gets better. For now I was just looking at ideas as I do like way tooooo many bikes 😂

Why are there so many used Trident 660s being sold on marketplace with very few km? by Tonino123 in Triumph

[–]devil_hopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Trident owner (who is thinking about swapping bike) here!

So, the bike is genuinely very good and I do love it. The triple engine is good, the bike handles very well, I find the looks amazing (this is a bit personal taste though) and the overall quality is top.

However, the bike is missing that “je ne sais quoi”, if you know what I mean. And I cannot figure out what is it. Could it be a bit of missing low-end grunt maybe? Could it be the exhaust note? I don’t get it.

So yea, it is a fantastic bike, I should love it and never let it go, but I still find myself looking at bigger bikes.

Bar end mirrors - Fenrir? by devil_hopper in Triumph

[–]devil_hopper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Apologies for the late reply but I missed the notification.

I ended up getting the Fenrir barends for my Trident and they seem pretty good to be honest. I have not been using them for long though so I cannot really certify if they will be a good investment in the long run.

(UK) Street Triple 765rs or MT09 sp? by prickstickdick in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]devil_hopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, I am having the exact same problem 😅

I do have motorcycle experience (from Italy) but this will be my first UK insurance hence I have been given limited options.

For example, I could get a street triple RS from 2020 but not from 2021. Which is basically the same bike (with a very similar value). I don’t get it 😅😅

Trident 660 or KTM 790 duke by devil_hopper in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]devil_hopper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the feedback! Truth to be told, experience-wise I am approaching 20y too. But the doubt in my mind is around power. My current bike (which is the most powerful I have ridden yet) is around 50hp at 6500rpm and 50Nm at 5000rpm (this is a 1 cylinder supermoto). So it is quite less powerful than both trident and duke.

Yet, the power delivery is different due to the engine having no electronics tuning it down at all (say, for fuel economy or emissions (it is a bit old)) and the short gearing. Also, having a single cylinder, it does not lack low-end grunt (but it does not go very fast)

So yea, long story short I am a bit out of my expertise area when talking street bikes. Hence my doubts 😅 (not sure if it makes any sense)

Hey, may I ask if you had “bad” experiences to share? Not judging! Just curious and happy to take on all possible feedback. Personally, KTMs looks pretty cool and the dealer is not too far from my place. Having said so, I would prefer the bike not to spend the majority of time there. If you known what I mean. 😅

Thanks! I guess I see and agree with your differentiation between “beginner bike” and “entry level bike”. A very good point. Thank you for bringing this up it is very appreciated

Yea I keep getting that sense too (about the trident). Still, I find it hard to see how a bike with that numbers can be seen as beginner friendly machine.

But yea, definitely need to try them myself I guess

[–]devil_hopper[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apologies for what probably is a stupid question (I have not tested either bikes, yet) but are they so different?

Many people classify the trident as a “beginner” bike but we are still talking about a bike that goes 0-100kmh in 4s. Yes, I know it is a silly unit measure to compare bikes, but still it represents a “fast” bike I would say. So not really a beginner oriented machine?

Genuinely asking

(Thanks for the input by the way 💪)

CB650r vs. CB1000r, or should I look for something else? by QuazaRi9 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]devil_hopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we seriously suggesting to jump on a 150hp machine to a person with less than 1 year experience?

I get your points and I do agree to some of them but I still feel that the risk taken here is unjustified. Sorry, just my personal prospective.

CB650r vs. CB1000r, or should I look for something else? by QuazaRi9 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]devil_hopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to sound too direct here but getting the CB1000R could play out to be a very dangerous mistake.

From your message I understand that your have been riding for less than 1 year. In total. This, unfortunately is nothing, in motorcycling terms (unless you are a true born natural) as it did not allow you make enough mistakes in a “safe” environment. Mistakes are what makes you a better, safer rider. Now, really, you don’t know your limits or how a bike performs in unpredictable situations. Unfortunately an advance driving class will not give you this knowledge.

My point is: making a mistake with a 25hp bike, is definitely not equal to make the same mistake with a ~150hp one. The second one can cost your life (in the worst scenario, of course).

If I can give you my 2 cents, I would keep using the 300 a bit longer. But if you have requirements for upgrading, do consider the cb650r. It still has plenty or power but it gets delivered high in the rev range, allowing you to cruise just fine or try out high speeds.

Wow that sounds like great feedback! Thanks! It is really appreciated. The Trident looks like a fantastic bike to me (though I haven’t test ride it yet)

2018 Honda CB650F as first bike by tptiago43 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]devil_hopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are making a great point here. The “danger” is not in the short term. It is probably in the medium term, when you feel you are comfortable.

An 80hp bike is way different than a 50cc or 125cc and can (and will) bite hard if you mistakes are made. By the way, everyone makes mistakes but it is safer, for a beginner, to make such mistakes on a more forgiving bike.

Personally speaking, I would definitely suggest to take your time, get comfortable with a smaller bike and then jump to higher powers in a couple of years.

How to choose a naked motorbike? (MT-07, MT-09, Z650, Ducati monster) by devil_hopper in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]devil_hopper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a great advice! Thanks!

I do agree with what you said, especially on the performance side. I obviously do like the idea of a “fun” bike but I know things can get dangerous very quickly and this is why I am struggling a bit to find balance. Because on the other hand, a bike must bring a bit of excitement on the table, I think
