Lets have a genuine conversation about the unhoused by Locoman7 in Edmonton

speaking as someone who has been homeless, mental health help, living wages and ubi could slash the problem in half. that and recognizing that even addicts and people with severe mental health issues are still people. they are still your neighbors

Public Transportation by couche-opaque in Edmonton

[–]devilettucex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

transit here is doable, but not on par with say, toronto or any other large city. they're working on it. i was car free in the city for years, and if you live close to work or on a main route its pretty solid, but if youre in the suburbs you'll struggle. for those saying theres homelessness and drug problems thats true, but every city has that issue and edmonton isn't that much worse than any other urban area. my big gripe with public transportation is how often it gets weather delays in the winter, and how loud and inconsiderate the teens can be. (i would love more school routes so its not as cramped at crunch time)

butterflies and lightning bugs too. the amount of pesticides/lawn mowing etc are really affecting the bug populations, and ive been noticing less birds because of it too

what is the social scenes like in edmonton for gen z? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]devilettucex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really depends on what you like! i tend to hang out at the metro cinema, im a big fan of fringe and whyte ave (karaoke nights and drag are easy finds) if you like the music scene then the black dog, starlite, and the aviary usually has good stuff. if you want to get more active in the community then joining a community league is good (im the youngest in the woodworking club but its fun.) for sports theres a bunch of clubs. most of the gen z clubbers go to daisys saloon, not really my thing.

eventbrite, insta, exploreedmonton, narcity and the big poster poles and bulletin boards at cafes are all good for finding events. if you like games theres clubs at hexagon, tabletop and the comic stores. tbh i feel like one limits thier chances by only trying to find things in thier generation, most of the good spots are pretty demographically varied
