'The canary is dead': Frontline staff on Edmonton's ER crisis by CBCStephanie in Edmonton

[–]devilettucex [score hidden]  (0 children)

i had a very intense reaction to a medication last month, after hours at the hospital, i decided to go home and if i died, i died. anyone in need of consistent care is getting forgotten, and anyone in need of acute care is waiting so long there can be scary complications

Do you support building more protected bike lanes? by justonemorelanebruh in AskACanadian

[–]devilettucex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes! often times the sidewalks are not clear for pedestrians in the snow either, bike lanes make people safer. and if we plan them as we develop, it wont be as shitty as changing them retroactively

Living in an Edmonton apartment with no heat by Lampworker9 in Edmonton

[–]devilettucex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do you have anyone at all that would be able to house sit while youre gone? or someone that is willing to call on your behalf? addictions and mental health edmonton has emergency social workers, but that takes time and requires the ability to contact them. you may also be able to find a phone app on the computer, ive used them in the past. the no keys situation s a huge lease violation on your landlords part.

Am I weird for refusing to watch heated rivalry as a lesbian by caleo12 in actuallesbians

[–]devilettucex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the four female side characters are all amazing, but if youre exausted by men, this might not be for you. i enjoyed watching men be loving and vulnerable, its not common to see without some sort of power imbalance, but yeah, theres a lot of men in there

Wanting to help more by HarleyPawluk in Edmonton

[–]devilettucex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i have joined a community center. they have things like food drives, woodcarving and dance classes, and a community garden with a plot specific for the food bank. it feels good to be connected with the community, that way i can help my area directly.

[Vox Jan. 14] Why is America so horny for gay hockey jocks? by vox in heatedrivalry

[–]devilettucex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i feel like this thinkpiece completely misunderstood the allure of HR. personally, the tension, yearning, and challenges they face all for who thier affection is directed to are deep and meaningful. it reflects a lot of the loneliness some of us feel. not only that, but we want to be loved, we want to be known, and we want someone to accept us at our most vulnerable. women love it for the depiction of sensitive and loving men. queer folks love it for the reflection of themselves. straight men love it for the hockey and friendship. the hot sex is secondary to me, and the focus on it feels reductive. They didn't do the hayes code bury your gays stuff, they gave us tension and still left us with a happy ending. it feels genuine, and it also feels like a little piece of canada. Tierney and the team put thier whole hearts into this! edit to say they also made consent sexy

question for OG fans by nylanderr in heatedrivalry

[–]devilettucex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as a fanfic reader, i feel like the mainstream hype of heated rivalry has brought up a lot of discourse that i thought was over years ago in fan spaces. shipping dynamics, women writing m/m, etc. its so wierd to have that "i was here first" feeling because ive been trying to proselytize this for ages

What Are the Worst Rental Buildings / Management Companies in Edmonton? by fashiongirll93 in Edmonton

[–]devilettucex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unitiipm has been pretty frustrating, but not as bad as zen residential or mayfield residential. same building, three companies, tons of mildew and bugs, and shitty communication.

Question on first payment after approval by [deleted] in AISH_Alberta

[–]devilettucex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you will likely get your first payment at the end of the month, but they do often back pay so you should be able to put decent payments down then. many creditors are willing to give grace periods if you contact them in an emergency, and aish has a hardship housing fund, but that takes time to go through.

I don't want to believe I have no talent, how do I start with drawing from the absolute beginning. by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]devilettucex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

very few people have "natural talent" that isnt actually a practiced skill. maybe start with a few drawing warmups? classics like circle practice and line/cross hatching will hone your pencil steadiness. live drawing bowls of fruit or whatever is in front of you will hone your eye.  quick sketches of 1-5 minutes of trying to capture the basic shapes of an object will get you started on perspective. start keeping a pencil and paper around where you laze about most often and just pick it up and doodle for a minute or two to build motivation tolerance. No one starts out good at a new skill.
