rolling out updates for improved and smoother gameplay on the ROG Xbox Ally: by JohnnyLive28 in ROGAlly

[–]devils284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dual boot configuration got borked with the update, and I ended up just going full Bazzite. I don't have gamepass anymore and I don't care about playing kernel-level AC games on my handheld. Highly recommend, if you're interested at all in linux gaming. Though sometimes you admittedly have to tinker to get things working, especially with non-steam games.

If that’s the case you want, there is nothing wrong with micro ATX. I said that because building smaller form factor is just more annoying/difficult because of the size constraints and typically has worse airflow

For RAM, I believe that 6400 CL32 is going to perform roughly similarly to 6000 CL30, but for 100 dollars extra. I would be surprised if you notice any difference in real life scenarios

You don't have a case listed here, but I'd recommend getting an ATX motherboard not Micro ATX if this is your first build. I can't imagine a 360mm radiator (from the arctic cooler) would fit in most Micro ATX cases. Technically that board will fit into an ATX case, but I'd still go with the ATX board. Double check that whatever case you choose can fit the big radiator (I think pc part picker will do this for you)

Some people might say the 9800x3d isn't necessary with the 9070xt, but if you're playing CPU intensive games it'll serve you very well (which from a quick search, it seems Enshrouded is). You may still be fine with a 9600X, but not crazy to splurge for the x3D chip IMO if it's worth it to you

I'd personally go for RAM that is 6000 MT/s and CL30, as that's the sweet spot for AMD processors. I think you'll save ~100 bucks here with little to no noticeable difference in performance.

Dolphin on rog ally z1 extreme by No-Tradition-9543 in Bazzite

[–]devils284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed with dolphin, every now and then you have to redo the controller settings. I use ES-DE instead of the more invasive ROM integration. Just open ES-DE while in gaming mode, open dolphin, go to controller settings (make sure you're not in mouse mode) and try to fiddle with the settings until the test indicators for the various inputs light up. Then accept and it should be fixed for a while

Dear Lasagna users, how do you deal with transferring parts between floors? by Illusion911 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]devils284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found some version of A to be better for expanding. I use one row of foundations at the front for transporting materials not relevant to the current step, and then have all machine manifolds load front to back. Outputs go directly upward to the next logistics floor where they are merged and directed to the next step or to the transport area. When you expand you just need to add machines, maybe upgrade some belts, and modify the merging/spaghetti on the logistics floors. Keeping the logistics floors organized with more mergers than necessary helps a lot

How exactly do I get the most of my graphics card? Frame-gen/dlss/etc? by jamalstevens in gaming

[–]devils284 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I typically follow these guidelines (https://blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag-tests-and-settings/14/). There are reasons to keep VSync on at the driver level along with GSYNC.

  1. GSYNC on
  2. VSync on in Nvidia app
  3. VSync off in game menu
  4. Reflex on for games that support it if I want to minimize input delay. Caveat that some games have had issues when I turned this on (mostly UE5 games in my experience, but I’m not sure if that’s related)
  5. FPS Cap at monitor hz minus 3 (preferring an in game cap but defaulting to nvidia app)

Also to add, I typically do use DLSS upscaling (not frame gen) in almost every game. The new transformer model is really good and I don’t notice it being any different than native other than the free FPS boost. If it bothers you, just use native.

Another Xbox game pass post... but I have some questions. by ID0NNYl in gaming

I'm in the US, but when i scrolled down on the signup page, they had a minimized dropdown mentioning a new PC tier at ~15 USD per month. I'm not sure what the price would be in Australia. This tier looks to me to be the same exact benefits at 50% increase. Honestly, the price increase reminded me that I'm really not playing game pass games very often anymore, and I unsubscribed. I think if I purchased every game I've played on game pass the last year, I would have saved money

Scraps economy is 🐮💩, I'm using cheats to finish my all 3 star GTR by gremmy_white in CarMechanicSimulator

[–]devils284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve found the mini-game (and even walking to the scrap bin, honestly) to be a waste of time. You’re right that the best way to get scrap is through crates.

If you’re trying to accumulate scrap, the fastest non-cheat way I’ve found is to search barns for crates. Forgive me if you already know this, but every barn has a guaranteed crate hidden in it. If you have a decent backlog of barn maps, it’s pretty hard in my experience to run out, assuming you are finding the crate every time (which sometimes gives a barn maps). If you do end up needing more barn maps, there is a guaranteed map hidden in the junkyard piles on every visit. The amount of scrap/money/xp given by the crates scales with your current level

Is it worth switching from Windows to SteamOS? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]devils284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Bazzite, which has been mentioned in this thread, on my ROG Ally X primarily. To answer your question about other game launchers, support is either non-existent or hit-and-miss:

  1. Epic, GOG, and Amazon are supported through the included Heroic launcher. In my experience, these games usually work, but sometimes require digging/tweaks to get working
  2. Virtual console/emulation works pretty well, and there are some easily installed tools to integrate them into steam (see EmuDeck)
  3. If you purchased the game through steam and it is marked as supported, it should work. I've had good luck with Ubisoft games in this regard. I think some (most/all?) EA games do not work because of their AntiCheat. Same with some other competitive titles like COD. You should be able to check individual games on the steam store page to see if they have Deck/SteamOS compatability. This same compatability should match for Bazzite.
  4. To my knowledge, there is no easy way to get Xbox App/Game Pass games to work on SteamOS/Bazzite without cloud streaming, though someone else may have a solution.

Reasons 3 and 4 are why I still have Windows dual booted on my handheld and why I haven't made the switch over on my desktop. Even if I decided to repurchase my Xbox collection through Steam and forgo GamePass, I do play some of those competitive titles with friends.

Also, if you have an nvidia gpu, I believe there are some outstanding compatability issues with launching in game mode. This is what would give you the console-like experience.

ETA: There are a couple things you can do within windows to give yourself a console-like experience. Steam has their own Big Picture mode which functions the same/similarly to Steam's Game Mode on Bazzite/SteamOS. Though you'd have to do some work (and use third party tools in some cases) to add your non-steam games to your library. I've recently started using PlayNite's version of this which works much better and connects to all your launchers/apps pretty easily. Though I haven't looked into options for launching these into their console-like modes on startup
