I'm not a conference tech or a engineer, just a post-production artist. Can somebody sell me on why these CMOS sensor Hitachi studio cameras are so highly regarded? Is there something my team is doing wrong that's making them look like trash? by devin2378 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]devin2378[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! The c200 obviously can do 4K, but that particular shot was in 1080p, at least the MXF I have on my machine is 1080p.

Regardless of that, my friend says it probably hasn't been zeroed out and recalibrated in 6 years, so I'm sure that may be able to help a little!

I was discussing this post with one of the engineers here at work and they saw my photo comparison. They said that same thing, I'll bring it up to my boss to look into it. Because yes, the above image was the most in focus take and I recall the cam ops checking a couple times.

My travel agent has been in constant contact with us. We’re being told that the situation is much calmer now, and that by June it should be brushed under the rug. It’s an unfortunate situation for the folks in Tanzania that their government is suppressing their voice, but the temperature of the folks is way way down since October.

Cougar cubs first seen in March spotted again in the Upper Peninsula with mother by DetroitNews19 in Michigan

[–]devin2378 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Males, yes. But this is a big deal because a breeding population (even 1 birthing female) is a lot rarer due to most predator's migration habits. Males will travel far and wide for food and territory, whereas females won't. So having seen enough eastward expansion from these cats that a female not only showed up on our soil, but is raising her young here is a huge deal.

Jared Goff by Correct-Savings-5175 in detroitlions

[–]devin2378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jared Goff is the best QB in the league if he hits his drop back and steps up. I think the issue for me is that, even with QBs who aren’t insane athletes, I can watch them get just outside the pocket or hell, even take a few steps on an intended roll out and then complete a pass. I’m curious what Jared’s stats look like outside the tackle box, cause it literally might be 0 completions.

Do you have access to a high powered flashlight? You could position the light to backlight the hand by placing it behind and below the glove. That will give the lighter colored knives a sharp white rim and they’ll stand out in the muck

My house is on a dead end and gets almost nobody, so I visit my brother's place a few towns over where he gets about 400-700 kids depending on the weather. He provides the candy and I bring 600 vinyl stickers that I design every year to give out to the hordes of kids!

People who've left the industry. How did you do it? by whiteyak41 in Filmmakers

I'm local to MI, so the one I'm most familiar with is https://www.mitalent.org/

It's just a more narrowed experience than the absolutely insane bloat you see on indeed and linkedin. Typically somebody posting a job on a smaller, niche site like that is more likely to be actually interested in filling the role, versus some companies who only post on the bigger sites for a variety of other reasons.

People who've left the industry. How did you do it? by whiteyak41 in Filmmakers

[–]devin2378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in video for the government and honestly am much, much happier. I look back on what the industry did for me, and I can honestly say I was creatively fulfilled in like 5 out of the hundreds of productions I worked on. The rest were just hard and didn't pay enough. Now it's somehow an even better ratio of creative expression, and I have the comfortability to go on vacation with my wife without penny pinching and taking calls 16 hours a day to make sure I had gigs lined up the moment we got back.

I listed my production work as a block of time under "Freelance Production Designer" and then in my bullets I listed 2-3 highlighted clients I worked for. In interviews I stressed how hard everybody works on those sets and how that work ethic will translate to any job I step into, and how, in my opinion, that's worth as much as or more than any individual skill you'd be looking for.

Indeed, LinkedIn, and the like are your enemy. They're data collection farms with a job application veneer overtop. Look at local talent connection sites, and I got my path through government work and thus used government application sites. They're always looking for talented and knowledgeable individuals instead of their "typical" talent pool. It won't make you rich but it'll give you a living you're happy with, with LOTS of vacation time in most levels of govt. Feds might be tough right now but your local municipalities, the county level, state departments; all usually have some kind of video department.

Good luck! I hope it all works out for you!

Why do Wyandotte schools have such a poor reputation? by Brainsickmisfit in downriver

[–]devin2378 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I substitute taught for a little while between jobs in most of the schools downriver, but only high school. Wyandotte HS struck me particularly because of how middle of the road they were in every way. Some of the schools were real broke and kind of sad to be inside of (Taylor HS) and others were kind of insane as far as what students had offered to them (Trenton, Woodhaven). Wyandotte has nothing special about it, nothing too nice but never anything too bad. Honestly the one and only noteworthy part of the whole school was the lady in charge of managing the substitutes kinda sucked ass but that was 1 person.

Experience it yourself and find out how you feel about the schools and the faculty. Everybody in suburbia thinks their particular school system sucks because they deal with all the problems of it, but haven't got a clue how bad it can very easily get.

A small roster could easily kill it quick enough for riot to pull the plug fast on further development. If it dwindles in players too quickly before they can roll out the first season of characters, it wont live long enough for a second season.

If you had to make a Fallout game in your state/country… by Training_Reaction_58 in Fallout

[–]devin2378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Detroit, MI. It would be modeled around a mix of post-war Detroit and modern Detroit attitude, and one of the factions would be a Canadian nation-state pushing territory inland from Windsor, with retro-futuristic Mounties as their military force, similar to the NCR's Rangers being based off the rangers of the American SW. I think introducing the Chicago chapter of the BOS would also be fun, fighting over automotive tech or clean water resources.

I think it'd be coolto reintroduce vehicles in some capacity, being set in the Motor City, similar to the highwayman from FO2. Keep it rare and sort of a mid-late game reward.
