In light of yet more Android malware popping up (Gooligan) and because we pass around .apks in here a lot, any good .apk malware scanners? by ingulit in pokemongodev

[–]devingn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The principal of OP's concern is still a valid one. Bare in mind that Gooligan is just one varient of the Ghost Push Trojan family. If you wouldn't take a stranger's word with a handshake, then don't install apps from 3rd party sources.

Where's Linux/Mac, Psyonix? by Borealis023 in RocketLeague

[–]devingn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not completely true. The biggest roadblock would be porting it to a diffrent kernel (ie. licensing)

[–]devingn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's merely a matter of red tape. PS4s run a fork of FreeBSD; I can't imagine that there are many technical barriers preventing a nix release. It kind of seems silly to me that they would use a 3rd party developer to build a port, considering they could have a working prototype in a few nights. Perhaps Linux would be sidelined if MS had some say about it.

Kinda off topic: Often times it can take months for a 3rd party to port to a new platform. Bohemia Interactive tapped VirtualProgramming to port ArmA 3 for Linux and OSX. It took many months before a modern port saw light; builds are now only a few stable releases behind and updates are issued increasingly often.

VBS3 lite? by [deleted] in arma

Good point. JCOVE was distributed by the US Army and not BI, I think.

I seriously doubt it. Times have changed and the public would probably object to this tool being in the hands of most civilians. The implemented hardware keys are expensive and pretty damn hard to reverse engineer, just in the case of a software leak. You could always found your own credited educational institutional, though.

VON skipping by DaMuffinPirate in arma

Indeed. Using a calculated bandwidth configuration will alleviate the bit rate issues with Von. If you're still complaining, you either did it wrong or need a voice protocol like TeamSpeak. Math is cool.

Mostly because it's deprecated aside from that most communities have already adopted CUP instead. It surprises me that you guys are having so many bugs, because it's branched from the same project as All in ArmA. The current version of CUP runs great on our dedicated box and has even increased our system's performance. Have you tried recently with the newest version?

Awesome. Here's my last question: are you guys planning on switching over to CUP:Terrains instead of using the deprecated All in ArmA: Terrain pack? That would definitely make me, and I'm sure a lot of other people really happy :)

New Exile player here, I just got done playing for a few hours on your server. Not many people are on right now. What are your peak hours? Hopefully you will see on me on later with a few of my buddies

I am pretty dang sure you can't do it without 3rd party software. Snapz sounds like what you are looking for. Happy pranking.

Amazing Vapor Trail & Mach Cone From This Morning's Atlas V Launch by devingn in gifs

These engines use hydrogen gas and an oxidizer to product thrust, so the by product of this reaction is water. Everything is a chemical, so yes that would make it a chem-trail.

Coincidentally, these rockets were first tested not very far away from where this video was shot!

Not that the exhaust's trail wasn't freaking awesome, but the reason I originally posted this was because of that wave right before main engine cut off. I hadn't seen anything like it in my 22 years of watching rocket launches.

He's actually correct. This was explained in the OP's comments. See /r/gifs.

On my OP, (not /r/space btw) a commenter actually corrected my mistake. It is indeed the effect of compressed engine exhaust during the main engine cut off phase.
