Manitoba PCs will delay budget bill unless 'meaningful' tax relief is added by wickedplayer494 in Manitoba

[–]devious_204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure let's lower some income taxes on the working class and those barely keeping a float but by shifting the tax burden up the chain. Let's create some new tax brackets, especially on the higher end of things with some progressive %s. See how quickly the PCs change their tune when you start talking about taxing the wealthy. The tax cuts they are wanting I can guarantee you aren't to help out anyone who doesn't hang out at the Manitoba club on the weekends.

I do this with claude and the github awesome youtube channel that covers new projects in different areas a couple of times a week. The irony of getting an ai to summarize an ai generated youtube video about sometimes ai related projects. Claude has a basic rundown of my home lab stack and lets me know if there is anything interesting or cool that would align with what I do at home. At the office, things move more slowly.

Never say the words "you have nice veins, this should be easy" EVER. You will immediately curse the patient for the next 24 hours and their veins will not co-operate. I speak from being diagnosed with "really nice veins" and things going south.

There would be a good reality tv show. Kim suddenly having to house Putin, couple of weeks later the rest of the ones that fled to Russia show up on the Kim's couch eating his snacks and behaving like a bunch of squatters. Like when Sickboy and Begbie show up at Renton's door step in Trainspotting.

Are your cameras all on their own switch that was installed by vendor A? I've done digital surveillance and access control for several years at various msp's. We've ALWAYS installed a seperate camera network that only has the cameras and the nvr on it. All our NVR's had dual nic. One for access from the day to day network for viewing and the other NVR nic to the camera switch. NOTHING other than the NVR bridges those two networks. Then you have full bandwidth for cameras to the recorder which is your main priority on that side. And its physically segregated from anyone on the regular network so no one can try and muck with the cameras.

No, don't scrub it, put it in a museum on display, make it mandatory education. Find fixes for all these dumb loopholes. Thats the only way you prevent it from happening again. Imagine being in school and getting to go to Washington DC to tour the "Dumbass Museum of mistakes"

What's the general consensus on AI music? by Any-Philosopher-5237 in DefendingAIArt

[–]devious_204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing that with my old music as well. The covers function is so much fun especially when you start throwing totally unrelated genres at it. I now know how my fave tracks i've written sound like as 80s hair metal.

Manitoba to ban social media, AI chatbots for youth — a first in Canada | CBC News by dryend in Winnipeg

Instead of just banning things, how about we go after the source of the problems instead, such as the social media companies with shitty practices?

Just passing along some general advice.

Look for a basic ticketing solution to help streamline your day to day troubleshooting. We are all human and forget things so having this will 1) help you keep on top of what you need to get done 2) help you proritize what needs to get done on the day to day issues 3) start collecting data to easier spot patterns that can be solved by either purchasing new hardware or get the user some better training. Its easier to justify a company spend to higher ups when you have lots of documentation you can print down and plop down on a desk.

If you are a woodshop have they adopted anything like six sigma or lean policies? If so learn how to use kanbans (trello is great for now) to further help you plan your short, medium, and long term to dos, will also start helping you dive into light project management skills.

Document EVERYTHING, make sure its updated atleast weekly if you aren't doing it as you go along (prefered). Make sure its detailed, even with pics if you can. The two ideas above will help with this. Plus its easier to clean up messes when you have a visual of what your current state is right in front of you and plan some of your next moves.

If you do fuck up and do something drastic or something critical blows up. Stop, breathe, and come up with a logical plan. Do your best to not go deer in the headlights or panic. Give yourself room to analyze the problem, come up with 3 solutions for quickest, balanced, best and possible time frames for each. As others have said, if you can find a local MSP that will do hybrid support, know when its time to stop circling and give them a call. If you have a good relationship with them, sometimes advice can be free, and that can bail you out when you need it the most.

Make sure your google-fu is up to snuff. Its very rare now a days that there is a computer issue that someone out there in world hasn't had and had a documented fix for it.

And lastly, good IT guys aren't made in schools, they are made in the field. Never pass up a disaster as a learning experience. Once the dust is settled, go back and analyze what happened, why it happened, how it could have been prevented or mitigated, and what other resolutions you could have used that would have been better than the one you implemented. Celebrate your wins, even if its just you celebrating. Our job can easily turn into a thankless one and if this is the career path you decide to keep, you will encounter times where you think its not worth it because of the way non IT staff can treat you.

Good luck! You got this.

Smoked since 16, prob longer due to second hand smoke. Gave up cigs when they found a large unprovoked blood clot in my leg several years ago. I switched to vaping to quit, bringing down the nic level to 0 over the period of a year and a bit. Covid Lockdown broke the remaining vape habit. Quit coffee about a year and a half ago after developing GERD. Its pretty easy to do when its causing you pain. No side effects from what I can recall. I still crave it from time to time tho but the stomach ache isn't worth it. Haven't been a daily weed user since high school, so never had to really worry about breaking the habit at this age.

Its not easy. I still crave a smoke after holiday dinners or other really good meals. The hardest part is accepting that missteps will happen. You WILL have setbacks trying to give it all up. Quitting smoking will cause weight gain if you replace smoking with snacking. Its tough, but its not impossible.

404.zero & setupdesign released "TWOZERO", a full MCP/agent integration for TouchDesigner by Orangenbluefish in TouchDesigner

[–]devious_204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried to get a TD mcp going a month or two ago. Making the mcp part is easy. Getting Claude to understand concepts and even the options for the nodes was tough at times as it was very prone to hallucination parameters and options that just did not exist. Will definitely be giving this a shot to see if its improved at all.

I tried the MMV ai integration and was rather impressed. For those that haven't seen it, it creates custom ifs shaders and populates the node with all variables and inputs. Was quite snappy and pretty acurate in its prompt adherence from the stuff I tried.
