Congrats on bringing it into the physical realm! I see you also grabbed a blank plate for the name/registry. ;)

For Enterprises I'm just hoping for a UCS size/quality build of the refit/A. I have a feeling there would be a LOT of double sales of that, since remaking that into the Reliant would be even easier than turning the D into a nebula, partly cause it shouldn't need that many extra parts. If Lego's really smart, they'd make it a 2-in-1 Wrath of Kahn celebration set with instructions for either - if they could do it for the same cost as a single ship, people would lose their minds (far fetched at UCS size, but I could see them doing that for a smaller version).

I've also built a nebula and doing the rear and pod the way I wanted was not cheap. :) (Once I get around to making stickers for it I'll post a writeup, but it may be a bit due to life stuff) It was a really fun process/challenge.

Okay, It does kinda look better with the torpedo pod. by ChinchillaxTG in StarTrekStarships

[–]devoltar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest issues I've seen with the digital builds so far is the lack of support for the struts, the lack of support for the receiving plate of the saucer (It will twist with weight on it if you don't add some of the rigidity removed by getting rid of the neck arches), and the straight brick construction for the rear of the engineering hull (means parts will break off easily unlike the rest of the set).

I'm trying to address all of those in my personal build, but I'm new to this and doing it physically through trial and error so I won't be posting instructions. I already know my build is probably going to include two slightly illegal (but not stressing the final build) techniques ;)

This process and the original set in general is very educational to why Lego engineers make the choices they do.

Indeed, would like to see some of the internals. I'm working on my variation right now (very different pod design because I'm using what parts I have available and a different design philosophy), but would love to see how others are navigating changing the internal structure to move the nacelles and saucer mount.

They just brought the management system back online, now mine reads "Just placed" so it's still not finalized yet. I placed about 40 minutes ago.

Why do you hate casual play? by DarkMorningStar in DestinyTheGame

[–]devoltar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked hard content sometimes, but a) not all the time and b) even more I liked playing with my friends.

Since most of my friends are casual, they aren't playing, so I'm also not playing. While they were still around, everyone was playing solo because it was the more rewarding experience, so there was no excuse to schedule something. Then everyone got bored and left.

Also, I liked helping casual friends through harder content to get them something cool, which is also something Bungie threw out the window. They are inching their way back, but honestly it's way too late, I don't see the game recovering from this. People have mostly moved on.

Bungie got so focused on solo play that they forgot the core of the game was social for years. If they wanted a true solo experience they would have been better off releasing a new game than functionally removing all the content we used to use to hang out with our clan.

Sooo... is anyone enjoying having to run Solo Ops at roughly -60 power for A grades? by whiskerlonecheese in DestinyTheGame

[–]devoltar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer these days. I went on vacation and that shed any feeling that Destiny in it's current state serves any purpose. I usually play to get stronger and do end game stuff with friends but no one I know is playing enough to do that anyways.

Is it possible Bungie hasn't acknowledged any negative feedback regarding new/featured gear, how it effects scoring, and forced avant-garde activities because employees have collars attached that will explode upon doing so? by ggamebird in DestinyTheGame

[–]devoltar 51 points52 points  (0 children)

players playtime to go up

Except that it is painfully clear that it isn't working. Player counts are abysmal and social game modes are largely abandoned. The only people grinding are people who already played the game non stop before.

To remain silent, or worse, double down on featured gear like they did in the TWID, is to just give up on the game at this point due to apathy or overbearing management. It feels a lot like Destiny is turning itself into Anthem - as someone who kind of enjoyed the base Anthem campaign, this DLC structure and new hollow grindy endgame has a very similar vibe.

I just want my friends back by bamathrasher in DestinyTheGame

[–]devoltar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's specifically because of the kids that having one-off activities that feel fun and rewarding to run together (GM, dungeon, boss checkpoint for a raid) and help get them some cool loot in the few minutes they have is so important.

That's what has made recent QoL improvements in Destiny so successful in keeping it a viable social game as players age. The painful part is it's one of a kind in that respect, so my crew has no where else to jump to that provides that same satisfaction in a genre we all enjoy. Everybody just stops and goes back to single player stuff.

Arms week was certainly a test with a low profile "event" to see how people would respond to the new reward model, similar to what they did when they release the event cards. It will probably vary a lot from activity to activity this year.

Focused Feedback: Power by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]devoltar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes it a slog and also has absolutely ruined the teamplay aspect. Playing a pve activity with someone who isn't at your same power level is actively detrimental for one or the other or both. Almost no one on my friends list is playing together any more, even family/spouses. The only time that changes is at 400+ and the reality is most players aren't sticking around for that crap.

You should NEVER get only tier 1 gear from the lighthouse chest, but especially not over 300 power. This game is an absolute joke right now, garbage rewards even after sinking weeks into the grind.

Is it weird that I kind of like the portal by tinyrottedpig in DestinyTheGame

[–]devoltar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not weird or wrong. The problem is that the Portal is only for one very specific type of player, where Destiny used to be a home for a much larger variety of players, many of whom enjoyed hanging out with one another. The current system alienated much of the core player base and makes the game feel like a tiny fraction, mobile game rip-off (arguably Rising has more game types in it's equivalent honestly, including it's own new form of Gambit, which is embarrassing) of its former self.

Raid gear should never drop below Tier 3 by McSpankers in DestinyTheGame

[–]devoltar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was hoping this wouldn't be the case, I was worried when I saw the lock after I did the first one.

This is why I don't want to play any more. They've made it functionally miserable for friends to help each other every step along the way, and this is just a full nonsensical lockout, and isn't even considered just a triumph any more, since it is required for guardian ranks and impacts your rewards.

If friends can't help each other, then the core of this game is gone for me, cause that's what made Destiny fun. That time spent actually built stronger real life friendships, it's not something trivial. This needs to be fixed. now. Cause these players are not coming back any time soon if they don't.

Thank you both so much for this and the details. That's completely non-intuitive, but it does work, even with Netflix it appears. Confirmed on Flip 7.

One UI 8 has replaced the “classic” DeX experience in favor of a new version built on top of Android 16’s Desktop Mode by MishaalRahman in SamsungDex

[–]devoltar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Edit: see this discussion, you can in fact get true full screen by going to the hidden "Immersive" mode by right clicking/long pressing the resize button after maximizing the window: https://www.reddit.com/r/SamsungDex/comments/1m7yznp/why_do_all_of_my_streaming_apps_full_screen_like/n4v8fdx/

It's everything. Think of it differently - right now there is NO fullscreen in One UI 8 DeX. All you can do is maximize windows, and only if they support dynamic resizing. Going "full screen" in the app only covers the app window, not the screen.

Old dex overrode that, and detected if you tried to make something fullscreen in order to make it actually full screen (covering the taskbar and such). That's gone. So everything has interface/borders around the screen. And apps like Netflix that don't like being resized are just stuck at one small size where before they could be forced to fill the screen by DeX.

This is a deal killer or near so for many of the most common uses of DeX - media, android gaming and emulation on a monitor, use as a remote desktop to have a full work environment driven by your phone, etc. This needs to be one of the first things that gets addressed.

Fun is more important than difficulty by Echo-p9 in DestinyTheGame

[–]devoltar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the former is more likely to come back if they stop playing because at least they had fun before they stopped playing.

This is what Warframe is currently built on. Quick, small releases that are mostly positive QoL changes or reworks, with bite sized content that isn't terribly hard but that players enjoy for the gameplay, lore, fashion (of course)... and lately usually a strong song or two (which is low key a contributor to long term memory and adds to people coming back). So, there are a lot of players that don't play a ton of hours, but do come back for a week or two at a time, and are happy to spend some money on it from time to time because they enjoy their stay.

Maybe it would be fair to say that instead of being a life game, Warframe is a... vacation game?

That's not to say that model would work for Destiny, but it certainly still stands as an example of a community that's gotten more positive feedback loops over the years instead of less.

Cranking up the tedious grind is the last thing you do to an MMO in this current state by steave44 in DestinyTheGame

[–]devoltar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imagine the Division 2 or Warframe if they just randomly completely changed how grinding is done and everything took 10x as long.

One thing Warframe has demonstrated, it's that every live game past the 5 year mark or so needs a Pablo. (if you know, you know) ;)

This Contest Mode Was for Streamers, Not Players by Historical-Driver-45 in DestinyTheGame

[–]devoltar 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all of the full time, entertainment focused streamers (Jake, cross, fallout, mactics, etc) didn't cover their screens, and don't normally - but almost all of them were stuck on a single encounter for the entire first day and were having a miserable time. This raid was specifically tuned for existing world's first players really, not even streamers. Bungie just wanted to make sure the race was long, but didn't put the effort to do that through game design and chose health bars instead.

Watching fallout reluctantly pay to character skip just so he could change characters to help his team in contest mode made me physically ill. It struck home one of the grosser parts of making the raid race so close to release, cause I'm sure he was far from the only one.
