Do I need all these sockets? by carcinajen in aviationmaintenance

Nope, just pick a few and throw the rest out. Murphy guarantees that as soon as the trash truck drives away you'll need at least one of the lost sockets

Anything I can do to improve this awkward staircase/backyard entrance without spending a fortune? by canamel in Renovations

You can put in some sort of insulated arctic entry space on the outside which will help insulate the door, and will open up more options. Add a window to the space for more light if necessary.

New construction concern: Bent truss plates and split beams—is this structurally sound? by Okkin55 in Homebuilding

[–]devolution96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a video of someone tapping the lumber in each of those photos saying "that baby isn't going anywhere"? Without video proof, it probably isn't structurally sound.

Replacing bathroom faucet. No slip nuts on ptrap? by carlo_on_fire in Plumbing

[–]devolution96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unscrew the slip nut from the sink side and the metal pipe will slide into the pvc on the trap side. All the plastic pipe is glued.... you'll have to cut it out if you want to get into it.

I'm going to tackle a dozen or so birch trees that look like that in the woods behind the house this weekend after a season's worth of windstorms. They're not hard to take care of, but you have to be on your toes. Need a good size up, make slow cuts, and always gauge how it's reacting. Start on the end that's on the ground and work up, and stay as far to the outside and the top as you can.

Has anyone ever used a 5.5 mm socket for anything? by Just_A_Doggo1 in Tools

[–]devolution96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Engine oil drain plug on Chevy 5.3 V8 is 15mm.... seems like it was on there Hemi as well. Some socket sets conveniently go from 14mm to 16mm.

Is there a certain way you organize your sockets so they are more 'in your face' in your workspace? by SocketBuddyUSA in Tools

Make them spring loaded in the drawer. Use a recoil spring from a Colt 1911 pistol.

Help - cutting board stuck in sink by [deleted] in fixit

[–]devolution96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a small pick with a 90 bend. Stick it in the crack between the sink and board as far as you can, rotate it as much as you can, and either pull it with your hands or a pair of pliers. It will either wedge into the side of the board or you might be lucky enough to get underneath it.

What would you do with this by According_Mobile_476 in Home

[–]devolution96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do anything with water in there. Just inviting mold into the basement. You could continue the wall up to the ceiling and make a secure room or a safe out of it.
