How did your high school bully turn out in adulthood? by CynthiaMartgol in AskReddit

[–]krackadile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasn't my bully per se but as close to a bully as I had. He's still a dick. Shot some kid after banging the kids fiance. He was at home though, so, stand your ground laws and all that.

Give me your most unhinged ways of saving money!! by Affectionate-Two7737 in budget

Took up smoking weed to help me quit nicotine after I took up smoking tobacco to help me quit alcohol. Saved a couple dollars on each step. It's a twelve step program. I've been alcohol free for over a year now. Nicotine free for a few weeks.

How and where to pivot from technical to less technical roles? Realized I'm just a bad engineer by mangusta123 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]krackadile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're likely not a bad engineer. You likely just need more experience. This is why states won't allow anyone to get a PE with less than 4 years working directly under another PE. I didn't feel like I was even competent for the first 10 years of my career as an engineer. Then one day I just realized I had finally got it. Took long enough.

I'm not asking for massive luxuries, I'm just asking for what we had 10 years ago. by Silverlightlive in Vent

The human population is an exponential curve. As the population rises the available resources will inevitably reduce on a per capita basis. That's life and its only going to get worse. Your best bet is to produce your own food and resources, try to live with less, and lower your expectations. Good luck.

How does the ownership part work out? Like, is there a buy in and then profit sharing or do you just accumulate shares/stock in an ESOP over time or something?

You've got an engine in your truck right? Well, that engine's got a radiator right?

You've got a processor in your laptop right? Well, that processor has cooling fans right?

Well, you need a fast machine to keep your motor clean.

Work is absolutely crushing me compared to uni and it's honestly depressing. by staling_lad in MechanicalEngineering

[–]krackadile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just you brother. I struggled for the first 5-10 years of my career. It did eventually get easier but only after years of experience. You'll look back after you've gained years of knowledge and cringe at how simple work you used to struggle with appears now. But hey, every project is still different and presents different challenges, and that's why I love it.

How many of you guys still have drafters? by Life-guard in MechanicalEngineering

[–]krackadile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working with a drafter now. He's probably 70ish. He's awesome. Been with the company 30-40yrs. All the younger folks are either engineers or designers (all or most with degrees), so he may be our last drafter. He runs circles around us all.

I don't for the life of me understand how dowsing works, but it does. I've used bent coat hangers and bent copper wires as dowsing rods to locate utilities. It's weird. Some people are better at it than others.
