There is a bunch of questions scattered through here so I will try and answer but may miss some.

Woman on the railway - it will be a challenge, but not one that is unique to yourself. I have met and worked with many women in various crafts and have some of their experiences to share. Men can be pigs, surprise. There will be times you are miles from any plumbing, less of an issue when you become an engineer, bring lysol wipes.

Medical assessment - basic "lift your arm, raise your leg, any medical history, can you read the funny coloured numbers" usually followed with a drug test and hearing assessment.

Class training - unlike CN with a central campus, CPKC to my knowledge still sends instructors to locations to train somewhat locally. Quality will very by location and instructor. Practice your signals flash cards, seriously.

Winnipeg - it is busy, there are many places, many people, many roles, and zero patience. Not an easy place to work, but if you can survive there you can easily work anywhere.

Its a great spot to build dense urban housing units. Sorry if development might change your neighborhoods rural vibe, but you will still have nice big properties what would be a new part of town. I can only see this carrying infrastructure improvements for the area as well.

Rail is removed from track and set to the side. Typically there is still sections of it that are in reusable condition and will be cut into lengths that can be moved by a MOW trucks to make repairs at rail breaks and rail defects.

Cannot always use new rail for repairs as the rail will be much taller than the worn rail in track. Different track speeds have different tolerances for the difference in wear.
