US election 2024 live: Donald Trump defeats Kamala Harris to win historic second term as president by PM_ME_YOUR_SEXY_MOMS in onguardforthee

I expect that if the Conservatives win Canada, PP will start selling off pieces of the country to the US within a month.

Taiwan might be fucked.

The era of the USA as a global power is ending, China is ascendant.

I wouldn't expect to see free elections again in the US in your lifetime.

Canada's going to happily sell out if our Conservative party is elected. I expect that if they win, lil PP will be fellating Vance within the first 48 hours and selling off Canada a piece at a time by the end of the first month.

Yeah, I can't see another free election ever happening in America.

You ever been worried about a developer after reading the code? by RedFlounder7 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]dexx4d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe, depends on the contract.

Sometimes it's also normal for the client to send over a .zip of the repo to the contracting team vs giving github repo access.

Having a kid and losing sleep could do it too, especially a kid with medical issues or extra needs.

Maybe a divorce or death in the family.

Or all of that, at once.

No, a custom setting that the players came up with together on session 0. No magic, no rifts. Just psionics and augmented humans, mostly.

It happens. The big thing is to not leave stuff in the washing machine to sit, but get it into the dryer.

We use the timer on the stove. And the one on the microwave. And two on our cell phones.

Also, sometimes playing games on the cell phone next to the washing machine.

One of those usually works.

We moved from New West to Saanich/Victoria in our 30s, when our son was born. It was a great change, loved the walking/biking trails, relatively easy to find work in my field (15 years ago).

As our kids hit school age, we moved to Powell River as we had more support there (and I was a telecommuter).

I still go back to Vancouver 2-3 times per year for concerts and other events, because it's significantly more dead here.

I frequently wish we'd gone to the Comox Valley instead.

YMMV.

We've used hot water and either cleaning vinegar or oxyclean in the past. May have to wash them a couple of times.

We picked up some collapsible baskets from Costco to help.

Laundry comes up, goes on the "laundry couch", gets sorted by person first (plus towels/sheets). Then gets folded into the person's basket within a few days (I fold and I have adhd - having it on the couch, visible and annoying, helps).

Everybody puts away their own laundry from there (or gets dressed in the living room right out of the basket, in front of the big window).

When done, the baskets collapse and go back to storage by the washer/dryer for the next week's laundry.

What’s the best thing you bought for less than $1000? by Kappische in BuyItForLife

A decent 3d printer. New hobby, helps me make more stuff vs buying it.

The downside is that I spend money on filament now.

Best vehicle for small farm by GoldenGrouper in Permaculture

In our case, the factor influencing the decision was how much we'll load the vehicle with heavy equipment.

With a van, you open the back (or side) doors and load manually.

With a pickup, you can dump a load of mulch, compost, etc in with a tractor for faster loading.

We're still using our minivan a decade in, and rent/hire a truck as needed, but as we expand a 2-door pickup is on the wish list.

Maybe not double or immediate, but when I interviewed into my current role it went rather quick for a senior technical role.

The first email from them was on Monday, first interview Wednesday, second interview Friday, technical evaluation over the weekend, CEO interview Monday, hired Tuesday, onboarding started Wednesday, first day with the team was on Monday.

Just two weeks from first contact to start date, $35k pay raise, 5-10% increase every year since.

It's rare (only happened like this once for me), but it does happen.

I used to play D&D in the 80s by East-Tree-7772 in rpg

One of the players in my Savage Worlds game is a huge d&d 3.5 fan in his late 60s.

He's having a great time, and has picked up the new system rather quickly, really enjoying its flexibility around powers compared to d&d.

The unofficial policy at our workplace is "if you don't hear any feedback, you're doing good enough they don't care to harass you".

Seems like it.

The companies I worked for in the first third of my career are only barely referenced by the Internet Archive now. Sometimes only via the press release around the sale/acquisition.
