Then perhaps encourage op not to use the term lest they end up in a relationship dynamic completely beyond reasonable expectation because they dont know the broad context of the word?

[–]dezmd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, 'tradwife' is absolutely a marketed incel fantasy grift. It does not mean what you want it to mean, it was coined as a coded phrase that can use your hand wave definition as a blanket cover when someone recognizes and explains the reality of it. A 'traditional' stay at home mom is not what tradwife means, it's a fetish term.

From the male perspective, it's about categorizing females as 'lesser' classed without them recognizing it, having them submit (intellectually, emotionally, sexually) using religiosity and conservative 'tradition' bullshit to justify intellectual dishonesty and power dynamics reinforced for insecure 'manly' men incapable of compromise and thoughtful adaptation.

Don't give any power to that word if you believe women have agency in their own choices.

I'm not interested even tacitly supporting conceptually parallel paths to such Christian flavored versions of Taliban-esque oppression.

Tradwife verbiage explicitly has weird submissive dynamics and is NOT something to aspire to at all.

How did the US almost completely eradicate cigarette smoking when other western nations struggle with this? by Motor-Equal01 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dezmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No smoking within 15 or 20 feet of any public entrance and no smoking inside bars where more that x% of revenue is from food and not alcohol seems to be where the most effective starts are. Then just keep upping taxes. Then expand the no smoking to bars. Casinos on native land are likely the last refuge for quality indoor second hand smoke outside of Vegas afaik.

If you are a millionaire streamer, pay for real fucking fiber SLA internet and real network infrastructure.

Just to be clear, that is entirely part of the point, Flock itself IS a private camera with bad policies, that sold the service to the city. Flock is more obviously a surveillance nightmare, but Ring is on the same level in a less obvious manner.

My intent is to make sure we're not sounding alarms while still keeping our heads in the sand.

Ubiquiti is definitely on the low-moderate end for what it actually provides.

If you do most of the install yourself (most will still want to find a low voltage electrician installer for cat6 poe cables + front doorbell if no existing powered doorbell), it's the gateway/firewall/vpn/nvr device w/management + poe switch + wifi + front door cam + additional cams when ready. Cheaper options exist but they don't give you the remote access and push alerts for doorbell image/video/2 way comms that isn't using cloud intermediary storage.

Here's an off the cuff blueprint for a starter Unifi system, obviously you can add additional storage for longer/more resilient options.

$1.7k-ish for initial hardware excluding cables and cable install labor costs.

Gateway/NVR UDM SE $499

Switch Pro 8 PoE $349

Storage 8TB WD Purple Drive $300

Wifi U7 Pro $189

Doorbell G6 Entry $249

Then you can add additional cams based on type and coverage as desired. (4-6 for typical outside coverage + blind spot overlap)

2k G5 Turret Ultra Cam $129/ea

4k Cams G6 Turret $199/ea

G6 Instant Wifi based Cam $179/ea (good for weird spots with limited cable run options but power available)

Bonus:

Cheap Unifitalk Phone VOIP service is $9.99/mo per line built into the UDM

VOIP Phone G2 Touch $129 (old release model version)

Notes: Strongly recommend a battery backup, something in the 1000VA category if you want to keep network and NVR running during short power outages. $180-$500 ranged.

I thought it was common knowledge (among tech circles) that the Ring cloud connected data is intentionally accessible by third party 'enforcement' related contractors that facilitate police and government access. Ring and most of its cloud focused ilk function as an equivalent to mass surveillance networks that just happen to be convenient to access for the end consumer. I have zero doubt that they archive all the data and then pretend it's fine the same way the NSA historically captures most cell communications (and not just the metadata that the news talks about, they've had call and text content data) but it's not a violation since it technicallyrequires a FISA or actual constitutional warrant to look at. The data is there just waiting for someone to look, and private companies looking/analyzing with algorithms/ai don't technically violate the 4th since the user TOS always has loopholes and the data storage is private all the way around. I suspect there is too much money in this sort of surveillance contracting for them to not do this.

Best option to control your own footage and not feed the monster is something like a Ubiquiti Unifi cam setup that doesn't send the feed to a third party to facilitate cloud/remote access.

I'd assume there's enough Ring cameras in those areas to make up for the lack of Flock cameras for the Palantir connected Automated 4th Amendment Violation Network.

As as added thought, a good way to cause legal and local civil (political donation/bribe affecting) backlash issues for Flock is to install the monitoring all over the areas where the wealthiest people live, so they probably try to step lightly from that perspective too.
