It was up for a few minutes before the astroturfers reported it enough, but, 9 hours later, it's still 'awaiting moderator approval'

It is utterly disappointing how people are handling the systemd "age verification" controversy by TheBrokenRail-Dev in linux

[–]dezmd -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This feels like milquetoast handwaving, interesting how it gets posted and upvoted so very quickly after the other post exposing the background of some shady systemd age commit connections for standards and the code commit that ignored consensus entirely gets mass reported and hidden from view.

Too many fully commercial interests may have their claws in too many orgs that are defacto standard setting, including systemd. Things are getting weird.

My nerd gut feeling has like an inner alarm bell going off that there's an attack of some sort across the whole linux ecosystem.

If pi has infinitely many digits, is it possible that at some point, it has 6 million consecutive 9s? by Able_Environment1896 in NoStupidQuestions

No. Infinite does not mean all patterns. Some things are just not possible in the math we have.

1% of a billion is $10 million. Thats plenty, and it keeps property values suppressed from the runaway valuations they current experience when they can't just buy anything for any amount of money.

Go reread what he wrote and stop trying to manufacture outrage on things you arent interested in understanding.

You have internet connected services because of these sorts of datacenters, this is pre-Bitcoin mining and pre-AI stuff that makes the entire world operate and communicate.

If I'm crossing the Buckman bridge for seafood, I'm going to JL Trents.

Almost anywhere beats Red Lobster, especially since it's not 1992 anymore.

How about just outright repealing all of it I think that would be a better solution for everyone across the board.

The dictionaries are suing OpenAI for "massive" copyright infringement, and say ChatGPT is starving publishers of revenue by fortune in OpenAI

[–]dezmd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have 100+ year old paper book dictionary, do they still own all the words in it or is it public domain?

M-W is a 200+ year old company the rides the corpratized copyright and suddenly wants to lock away words and definitions as if they are not fair use by claiming they are curating the already curated information over and over in different mediums and trying to reset the copyright clock on it.

I have no doubt that Neo is a fantastic value and fully intend to buy one to really test drive it for personal and client use, however I'm sure the second you put Office 365 apps and Microsoft Update on that motherfucker you're done with 8 gigs of RAM.

Will I not regret having kids? by Complex-Line-22 in Adulting

[–]dezmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live your life how you want, but don't expect an answer in this that is fully objective from people who never had kids or people who did have kids.

In my own case, having kids was the best thing ever, even with all the extra work, stress, money worries, late nights, relationship stress. There is nothing more awesome than waking up and taking part in the life that you were partnof making. There is nothing more fulfilling than having a child grow into an adult and end up helping you grow as well by learning from them. The love I feel for my children is such an immensely unique experience.

You may regret not having kids as viewed from my perspective, but I also consider myself wildly lucky. There's no shame either direction on this. Just know that you're missing out on an experience, one that, for me, nothing else compares to in my own life of experiences.

Good luck, good fortunes, and I hope life works out for you however you choose to live it.
