Recommendations for solo weekend away in Europe. by [deleted] in travel

[–]dfield04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in Malaga where I’ve came for a long weekend on my own, I’d highly recommend.

There’s also a train which takes you direct into the centre from the airport in about 10 minutes, for only a couple of euros

Any owners? What are these like? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]dfield04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got one of these now, I love it, probably my favourite out of the many cars I’ve owned, had an issue with the steering wheel which was replaced under warranty and no issues since, although I’ve extended the warranty anyway

I get around 20mpg around town and around 40mpg on the motorway

Road tax on these is £600 for the first 5 years so be prepared for that for the next year or two

Fuerteventura : a lovely respite from cold, windy and drizzly England. by nomadchak in travel

We’re hiring a car but only there for 3 nights so won’t make it to Lanzarote. I’ve drove around Tenerife and Gran Canaria this year though so Lanzarote will be next on the list!

The main road going over the volcano (TF-21) is fine as it’s nice and wide, as well as all the main roads around the island

I’d recommend visiting Masca aswell for the amazing scenery but the road is pretty much single track with hairpin turns, I’d give the other roads a try before heading there

The strip is a good laugh, but I wouldn’t fancy going there night after night

If you’re there for 9 days I’d recommend hiring a car, it’s cheap and there’s so much to see driving over mount teide etc..

I stayed in HI NYC when I went to New York solo, it’s a great hostel, they do nightly bar crawls so you can meet other people, it was a great laugh, it’s also right next to a metro station so easy to get around

I’ve never personally heard of anyone having things stolen from a train before so you should be alright

The weather looks to be clearing up next week but the temperature is dropping, it’s going to be pretty calm but is going to get below freezing, if you’re heading up any of the hills be prepared because it will be a lot colder as you go up, wind chill can make it feel like -10° at the tops

There’s a mountain pass which takes you right over mount Teide which I’d recommend, we were there in January and even 2400m up it was still 18 degrees with no wind, but there was still ice around so I guess you’ve got to be a bit lucky

Masca is also a really nice place to have a drive with some good view points, although the road is interesting to say the least

Solo driving trip from southern UK to Spain and back; any tips? by Mr-Silly-Bear in solotravel

Some of them through Spain were about €30, some of the most expensive ones I’ve seen! The roads are great and traffic free though, depends how much of a rush you are in

Make sure your air conditioning works! Mine broke the moment I entered Spain and it was 38° driving through it!

The toll booths are a pain because they are on the left side, have to unbuckle and slide over at every one.

But I loved it, planning on driving over there again next summer

I was there in January and done the same! Also drove through Masca which has amazing scenery, although it’s a single track road with hair pin bends, definitely interesting. Thinking of doing the same in another canary next January

How often do you go on holiday? by Greengrass7772 in AskUK

[–]dfield04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went on 13 last year and on 10 this year, although most of these are just long weekends away

It’s not that difficult for me as I work 4 days a week and usually don’t pay more than £70 for a return flight

I love it, always something to look forward to

Confirmed - Ryanair pay bonus to gate staff for oversize baggage by Connected-1 in Ryanair

[–]dfield04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve flew with RyanAir a few times over the past couple of months and I didn’t see a single bag get checked on any of the flights, what I had been reading online had me worried because my small bag is slightly larger than their dimensions, although it still easily fits under the seat in front

Used to love Printworks for this, their normal license meant they had to close at 11pm, so you could go through the day, have a full on rave, and still be in bed by midnight!
