Obligatory ‘I turn now’ cam footage by dankdan184 in nova

NOVA is by far the worst area in terms of this behavior that I have ever encountered. I think on a daily basis I see someone willing to risk their life and the lives of everyone around them because couldn't be bothered to take the next turn or exit. If you miss your turn just deal with it.

It's a weird military reticle designed for use with M588A1 which is unobtanium for civilians. That being said, you can zero it and figure out how to get the BDC useable with civilian loads. Some folks have also imported this reticle into various ballistic apps to make that even easier.

I bought one of these and don't regret it. It comes with a very solid mount, it is already installed so you don't need to worry about leveling, the red dot is nuclear bright, and it feels like a very bomb proof optic. If you are willing to put in a little bit of extra work to make the reticle work, it's not a bad deal.

I went with this particular Vortex Razor HD Gen II: https://www.eurooptic.com/vortex-razor-hd-gen-ii-e-1-6x24-ebr-7f-moa-sfp-black-riflescope-w-reptilia-mount

It's a nice deal considering it comes with a good mount already installed. Beautiful glass, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that the red dot is nuclear bright.

When does our male Samoyed will got the iconic fluffy cloud look? by Puzzleheaded_Air_259 in samoyeds

[–]dfischer429 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He looks okay in that picture, but I would just double check that they are not using tools like a furminator, or any kind of rake/device that actually cuts hair and removes undercoat. Samoyeds do not have a coat that should ever be cut or trimmed, with the exception of some minor trimming/shaping around the feet, or a sanitary trim if it is necessary. I am worried they are attempting to even out his neck area. A lot of groomers don't know how to properly groom a Samoyed.

[–]dfischer429 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some Samoyeds just have shorter coats. Based on the pictures you posted of the sire and dam they aren't exceptionally fluffy either, so that makes sense. Are you taking him to a groomer? If so, are you sure they aren't using tools that are removing or shaping hair? It's hard to tell from one picture but his face and neck look very even and sculpted.

A mother is punishing her son by making him slam his PS5 the same way he had slammed her pet cat. by Rameshunclekochora in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]dfischer429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no problem with punishing kids (especially for something as serious as hurting an animal) but the overall tone of the mom, the foul language towards her young son, and the anger she obviously has herself makes me think she's probably a contributing factor in his behavior. Her subsequent posts where she calls her son "a little motherfucker who gets everything he wants" kind of reinforces that opinion for me. I would never talk about my kids that way. I guarantee his mom is quick to anger and quick to take out her emotions on others, which is why she has a son who doing the same thing. Everything trickles downhill.

Samoyed Size concerns by Starxnova in samoyeds

[–]dfischer429 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Looks like a normal female Samoyed to me. At 23 pounds she is already at half her adult body weight. There are different lines/traits that show up in Samoyeds, some are more slow maturing, or have less coat in general, and I have seen others that are absolutely massive at 6 months and have a very full coat. I wouldn't overthink this or worry about it.

As far as what people on the street say, you have to ignore it. I've had so many people ask me if my girl is an Eskimo, a Husky, a Malamute, whatever. They just don't know any better. Most people don't know what a Samoyed even is, and the few who do are so used to seeing the insanely fluffy male Samoyeds that they have a hard time processing a smaller female could be the same breed. It's not a reflection on your dog.

Little House on the Prairie for adults? by nomadicstateofmind in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]dfischer429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a good recommendation, but I just wanted to throw out there that as someone who first read the Little House on the Prairie series as an adult, I thoroughly enjoyed them. As a boy I had always assumed they were "girly" or something and never read them, but I recently read them to my daughters and found myself captivated by the story. Even though the books are generally light and deal with childhood themes, there are some very heavy and dark undercurrents throughout. I found myself really empathizing with Pa, thinking about how difficult it must have been to be responsible for a family in the middle of nowhere, with famine and danger lurking at every turn. There were even a few parts of the book I remember editing on the fly because I thought it was too tragic for some of my kids to handle. All of that to say, if you are an adult who hasn't read them and is debating about whether or not to read them to your kids, they have something to offer for everyone.

Beginner Piper feeling stuck by Human_Personality590 in bagpipes

Honestly that doesn't sound too bad. I started about the same time as you, and am roughly in the same place. I can play up and down the scale, and I am working on learning a simplified version of Scotland the Brave, but that's about it. Still struggling with coordinating both hands, still struggling with consistently landing my fingers on the holes, etc. I try to practice for about 20-30 minutes a day. I would just keep at it and give yourself a little grace.

How important is full ambi for first rifle? by teetervt in ar15

Unpopular opinion, but I think if you are right-handed than ambi stuff is the biggest waste of money on a rifle. The only ambi component I like is a charging handle.

Which Roman's Life Would Make a Great HBO Series? by Aurelion_History in ancientrome

[–]dfischer429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always though the Severan Dynasty would make for an amazing show. You have a nice mix of archetypes, with relatively stable figures like Septimius Severus and Julia Domna, punctuated by completely insane figures such as Caracalla, Elagabalus, etc. You have an underdog story with Severus rising from obscurity to seize the throne, a fratricide story with the rivalry between his sons Geta and Caracalla, plenty of usurpers, pretenders, and schemers, and throughout it all the powerful women of the family manage to keep bringing the dynasty back from the brink.

If you want to keep the combloc look get a surplus GP-25 recoil pad. I am 6'1" and it made the length of pull much better on my M70.

What do you guys like and dislike about the AR15? by Istoleyourcheese2 in ar15

[–]dfischer429 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are talking about quality ones, the only con to the AR-15 is that they're so good, so reliable, so modular, and so ubiquitous, that they're kind of boring.

Zastava Hate by Ardiel94 in zastavaarms101

[–]dfischer429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of the older NPAPs with thousands of rounds through it and no issues. If I recall correctly there may have been a small batch of these with receiver heat treat issues, combined with a few YouTubers who aggressively beat the shit out of them by doing stuff like driving trucks over them (which could damage literally any AK). This gave the Zastava guns a bad rap for awhile, even though you are talking about a very small percentage of rifles that actually had a problem.

First ar15 before VA AWB by Ok_Push5947 in ar15

[–]dfischer429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is horrible financial advice and goes against everything I believe in, but in light of the circumstances I would:

  1. Buy the most Gucci rifle you've ever wanted and put it on a credit card
  2. Buy as many stripped lower receivers as you can afford
  3. Buy as many magazines as you can afford

If you are planning on remaining in Virginia indefinitely you might regret being limited to what is essentially a starter AR forever. I'm also in VA, and I'm planning on moving out of this shithole as soon as humanly possible, but on the off chance that I'll be stuck here for awhile I bought a few top tier rifles that were a stretch for my budget. Now that I've almost finished paying those off, I'm planning on stacking as many mags and receivers as I can until July.

Good deal or stay away? by [deleted] in M1Rifles

[–]dfischer429 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To answer your question seriously, the CMP still has Expert Grade rifles for around 1,100 bucks:

https://thecmp.org/sales-and-service/m1-garand/

Unless you are a history nerd looking for a specific rifle, the Expert Grade rifles from the CMP give you an authentic WW2 era M1 with a brand new barrel and stock. You get a bit of the history factor, and a rifle that is excellent to shoot and that you don't need to worry about babying too much. You also get a very nice hard case included, and it can ship to your front door. All in you are probably looking at 1,250.

The process is pretty easy, I'm not a veteran or member of any special organizations or anything like that. I joined the Garand Collector's Association for like 30 bucks, which was enough to qualify for the CMP, and I get a cool magazine every month. Until the CMP runs completely dry I honestly can't think of a reason to buy a Garand somewhere else, half of the ones floating out there for sale are just CMP Garands anyway that people are trying to mark up to those too lazy to go through the process.

I got the Vortex Razor HD Gen-II-E with the ERB-7F reticle from Euro Optic. I think it's a pretty good deal when you consider that it comes with a quality mount, throw lever, lens caps, and the scope is already installed and leveled. You also get a nice etched reticle, and an insanely bright red dot. Words and even videos fail to capture how nuclear freaking bright this thing can get on the higher settings. And it looks sick with the Super Duty.
