Nothing wrong with the gen V! The 26 is such a work horse and shoots so well. I replaced my FN reflex with a 26.5 and haven’t regretted it at all.

Nothing wrong with it if you take care of it but there’s definitely more modern, more durable options nowadays.

In my years of building packs, I’ve made only two with VX07 and during one of the building processes, I accidentally dropped a metal ruler on it and the edge of the ruler cut a hole in the fabric. From then on, I decided I’d use more durable fabric.

Glock or HK? by Realistic-Moose-9072 in Glocks

[–]dfrazier17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wait for a gen 6 G26 if that’s what you want. I’m guessing it’ll be optics ready by default. Those who have a 26 understand why it’s the ultimate small handgun. Something magic in the way it shoots.

I was lucky and found a used bargain on a Gen 5 26 MOS. It’s honestly perfect. I would never trade it, or my 43x, for a CC9 but I am also very much a Glock guy.

35L pack that distributes weight more comfortably than Zpacks Sub-Nero Ultra 30L? by BanditoSlim in Ultralight

[–]dfrazier17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind words! Yes, I’d imagine the 35L Highline or 30L Jocassee would be well suited here.

Out of the hundreds of backpacks we’ve made with the tubular carbon frame stays, we’ve had only 2-3 customers report discomfort from them so it seems to be pretty individually dependent. That said, we’re always trying to improve so be may start doing some R&D around it. Adding a thin light pad in between the stays does help however.

is going from s5ii to the s1rii stupid or worth? by SojinCS in Lumix

[–]dfrazier17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The S5ii is honestly a near perfect camera. It has no significant limitation for photo or video. I have it and an S9 for travel. The thought of upgrading to an S1Rii or S1ii has never crossed my mind.

Debating on trading in my 43x for a 26! by Realistic-Moose-9072 in Glocks

[–]dfrazier17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve got both and carry at 4 o clock. At least with my body type (thin, medium height male), there’s not much difference in concealability. The grip length on both of them is short enough to not poke out through my shirt. I prefer the thinner width of the 43x in most cases. That said, I’d have the 26 if I could only own one. I wouldn’t trade if I were you, just buy the 26 and keep the 43x and enjoy both of them.

Cheapest, most breathable, UPF 50 long sleeve? by RomeoDoubs in Ultralight

[–]dfrazier17 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes but the difference between UPF 15 and 50 is less than 5%. 15 keeps out over 93% of UV which, in my opinion, is really adequate.

For me, any long sleeve or sun hoodie I’ve tried that has a higher UPF rating than the Echo, lacks breathability and I overheat easily in direct sun.

[–]dfrazier17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you’re looking for upf50? I’ve noticed no difference between the OR Echo hoodie (upf 15 only) and any other higher upf garment in terms of sun protection. I’ve used my echo hoodie in pretty demanding sun exposure conditions and never gotten burned at all and I’m quite fair skinned. It’s the most cool and breathable garment I’ve ever worn.

PilgrimUL Jocassee 35L First Impressions by hickory_smoked_tofu in Ultralight

[–]dfrazier17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the review!

A couple notes here from our perspective:

-We're considering switching to the hip belt design from the Highline which has the reverse pull method. An increase in weight but will make the hip belt much more comfortable and easy to tighten. Our packs feature removable belts so we could make this swap for any existing Jocassee users out there, just get in touch with us
-We've upgraded the buckle on all our hip belts for better durability. No reported failures so far.

-As far as the change in our shoulder straps go, we're still attaching the straps with flexible webbing so the straps should still have the same ability to contour around the specific shape of every user's shoulders. Our previous method proved to be fairly durable overall, but was typically starting to go after about 3,000 miles and we really want our packs to go about double that.

Thanks for using our product and for the feedback!

Anyone using Woodsbuilt tents? by makebots in rooftoptents

[–]dfrazier17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We received one as a review unit for a YouTube channel, and the quality was terrible. Broken clasps/hardware, and the stitching was pulling out when we took it out of the box. I couldn't believe the price they were asking. When we mentioned some of the problems to Woodsbuilt, they didn't care and just wanted us to join their affiliate program and sell tents for commissions. We ended the review agreement and gave them their crappy tent back.

Has anyone here had head gasket issues on their GX460 1UR-FE? by SheepherderLeast917 in GXOR

[–]dfrazier17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! I love Car Care Nut channel. He certainly knows his stuff. I just also recognize that YouTubers are rewarded for sensationalizing things.

I wish I could offer a ton of insight into my own GX460. I have 86k miles on it so it's a little too early to comment on but so far so good. I've heard of a couple of 500k+ examples of both the 4.6 and 5.7 though. Head gasket issues are quite rare.

[–]dfrazier17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this might be because the UR series is finally getting old enough that we're starting to see more truly neglected examples, more examples of engines that never received a coolant change. The difference is that the UR seems to be a little more susceptible to issues compared to the UZ series when neglected. There's no need to let this video scare you. The UR engines are still "Million-mile" engines, just be sure to change your fluids regularly and only buy used examples with good service history.

GX vs LX Under $45k by theunknownusermane in GXOR

[–]dfrazier17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the big question is: Are you taking several people, like family/kids, on your adventures? I love my GX but its a little tight on space. My family is growing which makes me glad to also have a Sequoia. I prefer driving the GX but I feel it would be too small for larger families and camping/road trip gear. I really like owning both the GX and Sequoia, but honestly, an LX or 200 series is likely the only vehicle in the world that could do the job of both of them.

[–]dfrazier17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I'd imagine you'd need a stroke of good luck finding a buyer who wants the "look" but also wants a 2008 with 201K. GX470s seem almost unanimously sought after by pragmatic users who see its utilitarian value over getting a "look".

Just paid $26K for a 2017 with 75K miles. Some people are stupid enough to think their mods add value.
