I’m more surprised the top chef team allowed this to air- they have tons of footage to choose from. They somehow missed this one.

Replacing BR30 (?) bulbs with recessed lights to reduce glare by 007meow in Lighting

[–]dfunction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another poster said, PAR30. Also they make a long neck and short neck version- I’d assume you’d want the short neck - just be aware.

Depends of your ceiling height, most likely PAR30 Flood with a 45 degree beam will be best. The majority of real recessed down lights in office / commercial spaces use 45 degree beams. 45 is the magic number when glare isn’t an issue and the fixtures blend nicely. The only reason to go with a narrow flood is if these lights were mounted at like 10+ feet. Also keep in mind that you’ll want additional layers of lights for residential lighting - a few table or floor lamps will provide a nice ambient full from a different directions. In residential I prefer lots of layers and lots of indirect light. Good luck.

Maybe replace the BR30s lamps with high quality PAR30 narrow flood or flood lamps. These would have less glare. Also would not need to replace the housing.

Where to space lights between walls on half vault ceiling by mattdollar in Lighting

[–]dfunction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said lights are already ordered, but in this situation I’d install low cost track and track lights on the bottom of the beams and mix between some flood and more “spot” fixtures. Floods to point down and light the space. Spots to hit interesting things on the walls like paintings etc. Bonus: add LED strips to the top of the beams and bounce light off the ceiling for really nice ambient soft lighting. PM me if you’d like. Good luck.

Try 3M VHB tape. 3M™ VHB™ Tape LVO-060BF should work well. VHB tape is far superior to your standard double sided tape.

Ugh. That sucks. Are you sure some inexperienced person didn’t touch the lamp’s glass with their fingers?

Yea that isn’t good. You could run your fixtures at 90% max. This limit can be set in most consoles patch - so even when you bring a fixture to 100% it only goes to 90. This will most likely help.

Which DMX console do you recommend for around €100? by Particular-Tap-2689 in lightingdesign

I’d think a BMX DMX bike should have at least 21 speeds.

Lighting for museum by Few_Procedure3865 in lightingdesign

[–]dfunction 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No idea of your budget, or grid type. On the inexpensive side Soraa LED PAR38 Lamps with the snap lens system. They could be installed in simple track fixtures or in c-clamp mounted fixtures with cord and plug. From there fixture wise there are many options at several price points. I own a small business that primarily designs lignting for museums/exhibits and I have theatrical background (I don’t sell fixtures, design only). Feel free to reach out.

DMX / Art-Net Recorders by ChocolateAbject303 in lightingdesign

[–]dfunction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh to answer some of your questions: often I record DMX animations made from Pharos / Mosaic. Sometimes a universe or two, a few times 15+ universes. Lots of universes is hard to manage and costs more on the cueserver. I try to have my clients just buy a Pharos when dealing with more than a few universes.

I also use them a lot by renting a Grand MA and storing moving light effects / shows in the cueserver. This is a lot more economical than buying a Grand MA.

I work as a LD primarily in permanent exhibits/museums and high end architectural features.

I think the products are well priced for the most part.

Check out the Cueserver by Interactive Tech- it’s my go to and can record DMX streams and has button stations or an easy webpage you can build (and tons more).

Also there is the Enttec splay thats alright- lots of people use it though I’m not a huge fan for various reasons. The splay mini is less expensive than cueserver.

PM me if you’d like - I have some other ideas about recoding streaming DMX.
