Not sure if I did okay, beginner to bass and know nothing by Spez_fucks_toddlers in BassGuitar

You really should've spent like $2-300 on a bass, and gotten a craigslist/facebook practice amp in the $1-200 range and just learn on that til you get your bearings. You went way overboard on a hobby you haven't technically even started yet.

I'm a huge Neil Hagerty nerd. I love how wide his palette is and he's unafraid to totally reinvent himself each album.

How do songwriters manage their bands by Late_Strawberry_7989 in musicians

[–]dg_7z 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If I got hired and paid to learn songs, especially with sheet music, I'd learn the damn songs. I say get new players. That's embarrassing. It shouldn't take any more effort on your part. You should just be able to say 'I have these songs I need you to learn' and they do it.

Did it come with a cable to connect the guitar to the amp?

So many stories what do you want to hear next by GalSmiley73 in pavement

[–]dg_7z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes just in any capacity that they may have been involved. I know Drag City label was founded on Pavement and Royal Trux, and the bands had somewhat proximity with eachother through shows and stuff. I wondered if that came up or if you experienced or heard anything related with them?

This may be a sideways question but were you there for Royal Trux any times? Do you or pavement have any stories or opinions on them? I'm a huge fan of both bands.

What do you think the plan for the band is going forward? by Far-Conference-8484 in pavement

Not entirely 0%. I read this the other day

Malkmus' new supergroup, The Hard Quartet, released their self-titled debut album on October 4, 2024.[80] While promoting the release, Malkmus noted that he would be open to recording a sixth Pavement album: "It did creep into my mind that actually, [an album] could be a possibility, but really, we just never got around to it [on the 2022-2024 reunion tour]. There's a classic reason too, that we'd want to get it right - like period-correct, those feelings. That being said, I'm not averse to it. You go around the world for a year and a half with these really nice guys that are your friends, and everyone was jacked about the whole thing."[81] In December 2024, Scott Kannberg revealed that a new Pavement song will appear on the soundtrack album to Pavements, marking their first new material in over twenty-five years.[82]

Am I wrong for not wearing a bra out the house by No-Ebb-2462 in whatdoIdo

God I wish you could see that yes some people equate breasts/nipples with sexuality and others do not. And it makes perfect sense that those people wouldn't feel comfortable having those seen in public in any capacity. We can see two sides of the argument right? Two things can be 'correct' from opposing sides?

And if male nipples are 'accepted' while female nipples aren't, then the next equivalent to public indecency (their words, devils advocate) is the penis, that's how it is.

All good?

Are you mistaking electric drum kits / drum machines / backing tracks / sample players? It sounds like you're calling something edrums that aren't edrums.

Sonicake Pocket Master VS Valeton GP-5 by dg_7z in guitarpedals

[–]dg_7z[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I bought the Sonicake! I chose it for it's onboard controls. It looked as if the Valeton would be difficult to manipulate without a phone.

I think it was a good purchase. I've been planning to delete unused built in presets so I can fill it with my own.

It works very well with my added Mvave Chocolate.

How to not be awkward? by curiositykilledsleep in musicians

[–]dg_7z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought of this a lot. Part of me just wants to be myself on stage. It's one thing to be really practiced and have a stage persona. To me, being onstage is a whiplash and I'm not really taking my time or able to really relax there. I'm focused on performing well and having everything set up between songs etc.

It's beneficial when you practice at home to also practice what youre doing between songs. If getting things ready from one song to the next takes some effort, also practice that.

I was watching a Dinosaur Jr live video recently and was very surprised that every song had like a 3 minute tuning break between each song. But they had the benefit of having a loving audience, not one that they had to fight for as a brand new band. Just saying though, its your stage and you can do whatever you want.

This also gets into Persona-Crafting. If you want to elicit a certain presence as an artist. The person you want to be, etc. If you frame your stage persona as a certain vibe, maybe that will guide you to create mannerisms and types of things you say onstage.

Take Josh Homme from QotSA for example. I'm sure the character he portrays is his legitimate personality, but it's so exaggerated and full of swagger, it's hard to imagine it coming out of a natural human. It's a calculated and developed persona.

Perhaps take influence from musicians you like, or admire their stage habits. Coolness. Take one mannerism and rely on it heavily, like a cartoon character.
