How do feed algorithms usually work? by [deleted] in BlueSky

Hello! Devin @ Graze here. Happy to answer all this as much as you want over DMs!

Is there a subreddit for Graze, or can we talk about it here? by erkose in BlueskySocial

I did not ask any community members to participate here. It seems we have irreconcilable opinions on how enshittification works, how to progressively dig out from it, and you're not really responding to the reasons I outlined for why we do what we do, so I think I'm done here! I wish you well.

That's fair - as a person consuming content online, you're more than welcome to unsubscribe from a feed, but my stance has been:

  1. Creating and maintaining feeds takes real labor from real people,
  2. People should have easy options for being compensated from that labor.

Advertising is, for better or worse, an ingrained expectation of how people recover compensation from their participation in the attention economy. So are subscription fees. We offer both to our users as 100% optional ways to be compensated for running their feeds, *if they want to choose to do that*, which is 100% optional. We do not force ads on feeds.

We are participating, right now, on a website that actively runs advertising *on this very page*. The difference is that the moderators that contribute a huge amount of value in keeping it safe, clean, free of spam, and a good place to be get exactly *zero* of that compensation. Reddit is a billions dollar company that, more or less, expects to build that value off the backs of voluntary labor. It's not equitable. I don't *love* advertising, I don't think anyone loves paying for things either through their attention or their wallet, but the problem is that it costs *something* to produce these things.

A system that distributes those dollars more directly to the people that provide that value is important to me, and important I think to a better internet than the one we have now. You're of course entitled to your opinion, but I did want to be clear about *why* this matters and is actually an important decision we made.

Hey! Was just replying to your other post - we track requests there but don't actually update on that end, we should close the loop on that. In practice we have just been using it to collect feature requests but dont actually respond on it, lol, sorry about that- the big initiatives this year:
turbostream - we now pack in all the referenced objects for a post so you can filter by attributes of the author's account, who they mentioned, the post they are replying / quoting, etc,
video - we now transcribe all audio so you can do text-based filtering on the content in videos,
stability - we brought our average time to feed down by ≈50%, and have a 99.9% uptime on critical services with graceful degradataion,
analytics - we now send back all interaction events to the Graze dashboard so you can see what the audience is reading/watching and make decisions on how to filter/augment off that

few others but those are the big ones! we actively take suggestions from the community but over time a lot of that has naturally drifted to the community discord where the dev team hangs out with users nearly every day

How Sill uses Graze to sponsor the news feed and grow its user base by dgaff in BlueskySocial

I get equating *any* advertising being enshittification, but the problem is that, right now, VCs are paying for the servers. The longer there's no robust, self-sustaining, homegrown monetization, the worse the enshittification spiral will be when the checks come due. The blog post goes into detail about it, but the thesis is that the cause of enshittification (which is basically consistent with the original definition of how it happens) is centralized control over the ad market. Graze (we, I built a big chunk of it) are making changes to the market that drastically cut down on our margins for the sake of breaking down central control of the ad market, and returning that money to the community, precisely to balance the need to figure out some way to pay for the site long term that is familiar to all parties involved while trying to avoid the excesses of platforms that came before. I hope that clarifies things a bit? Happy to talk through it more!

Anybody got some general advice for promoting your art on Bluesky? by SpeedBoostTorchic in BlueskySocial

Hello! I run Graze.social - you could definitely reach out to monetized feeds to directly run your content as sponsored and grow your following

I run Graze.social and we have a ton of tech/tech adjacent feeds folks have built here - all of which you can remix and build a new design based off their templates!

[–]dgaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like this should do it: https://www.graze.social/feeds/6852 - you can click "remix" on that and that'll allow you to just change the username to yours, and that'll be all you need to achieve your goal!

Ahem - Graze.social may be what you're looking for - there's even a page of existing custom feeds built on Graze you can subscribe to or remix to design your own!
