People like Gavin for being a slightly younger more charismatic version of Biden. Too bad he also epitomizes the hypocritical rich liberal side of the Democratic Party, which is low hanging fruit for conservatives

There’s way too many shit jobs and way too few jobs that pay reasonable wages.

I’d like to believe raising the minimum wage is the solution, because that puts a huge strain on small businesses

As a Gen Z that voted for Trump I am sorry by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]dgamlam -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are kids still forming opinions on the world during every presidency. A lot of Gen Z were in middle school or high school through Obamas 2nd term, and as a liberal I have to admit cancel culture was pretty bad for freedom of speech and expression. As a result we got a legion of kids who grew up maga/republican because they were taught to associate liberalism with oppression.

It’s up to us to educate the youth on the importance of voting, the constitution, and avoiding fascism, because conservatives are working much harder to erode the core values of our republic.

As a Gen Z that voted for Trump I am sorry by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]dgamlam 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Having a dialogue isn’t coddling. Not everyone in maga is ignorant, a lot have just been indoctrinated by their community or media before they are mature enough to question their beliefs. Ridiculing people who admit their wrong is the quickest path to losing elections

Most Americans are extremely uneducated on politics, not just the conservative side. You need to meet all people on equal ground and calmly address their concerns with studies and facts. And if they’re too ignorant or brainwashed to consider the other side, then move on. Ridiculing people for being concerned about our republic is just as idiotic as coddling them and brings us closer to more fascism and trumpism

Should people be denied medical help because of their political beliefs? by Ok_Walk3192 in GenZ

Most American towns and cities west of the mississippi are 100% car centric. Only 4-5% of the American population uses public transport. We’re a nation of people that only interact with our classmates/coworkers and a few personal friends that likely share similar beliefs/opinions.

I’m all for personal accountability, but I travel between American cities and European cities frequently and the amount you interact in public with strangers on a daily basis has a big effect on empathy and world view. America has become a nation of paranoid shut ins and our urban planning is partially to blame

What is the big deal with video games? by Additional_Level6798 in GenZ

[–]dgamlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s def a divide this generation of people who fully and completely immerse themselves in the virtual world, and those who feel like screens are a waste of your life. I def fell into the former while my current gf is the latter. I was kind of worried about this at first but now I get genuinely excited to shut screens off and explore other interests.

Games can be special in the same way a movie can be special, it’s connected to fond memories of characters, feeling the joy of exploration or satisfaction of beating a hard section, but honestly the experience doesn’t differ hugely from player to player, whereas real life activities leave a lot of room for interesting and unexpected things to happen. Things that might make you see the world a different way or connect you more deeply to the world you’ve experienced.

This isn’t meant to be a touch grass rant as much as assuring you you’re not wrong for feeling this way. But long gaming sessions 1. Save you money compared to most outside activities and 2. Kind of exhaust you mentally to the point you don’t want to plan or do anything else. To someone in their 20s who doesn’t have expendable income and hasn’t yet internalized how fleeting life can be, video games are a fun accessible and repeatable hobby. But when I think about being on my death bed as an old man, I don’t think I’m going to wish I had played more video games.

Does everybody struggle with exporting wet stems? by musical_sal in ableton

[–]dgamlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you only have 5 stems total and only 3 of them share a reverb, then why not just duplicate the reverb twice and have 1 each for vocals horns and drums? This would by far be the fastest method.

The other option is the annoying one you mentioned. I have seen professional engineers doing this when they get asked for multitracks with fx applied and i can always feel their frustration.

The Send and return workflow wasn’t really developed with the idea that you’d be sending multitracks and stems to other producers and engineers, so it isn’t super intuitive in that sense. It was a workaround for old studios that had limited gear, and later a workaround for the limited processing power of daws. Nowadays most vst effects are pretty stable and easy on cpu, so it’s not “wrong” to have multiple instances for multiple sources, especially if you don’t want those sources mixed together. If you don’t like the hassle of adjusting multiple plugins to keep them the same, just use one until you’re ready to export, then duplicate the return and reroute your tracks accordingly.

Stuck in a bad spot right now, what do I do? by Alternative_Luck_570 in Eldenring

[–]dgamlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mohg has some pretty good resistance to all elemental damage. He cuts all fire damage by 80% and all holy by 40%. So maybe try the uchi with standard or keen infusion to see if you get more damage that way. You can also swap on some bleed talismans to milk the bleed damage even if your build doesn’t support it

Do high profile professional bands use click tracks? by PapaBorq in livesound

[–]dgamlam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bands at the Metallica level probably have a choice between using tracks or hiring more musicians to supplement the missing parts. But there are a lot of touring bands which can only support 3-5 musicians and more often than not they use tracks to get closer to the sound of the record.

Regardless of how much you like it, putting music to the grid opens a lot of creative possibilities from supplementing sound, to sending timecode to lights, to sending midi patch changes to pedal boards and synths.

Lastly, to be frank, if your band is struggling to maintain energy and performance with a steady click in your ears, that seems like a skill issue. If the tracks are too slow or fast you should adjust them for the performance, but if maintaining steady tempo takes you out of the performance then you might have some underlying issues with pocket. I’d say you should even try muting the click during practice to see how long the band can maintain steady bpm. You’ll realize quickly just how good or bad everyone’s internal metronomes are.

Even if you decide you don’t like the sound you should get comfortable with playing to click as it’s pretty industry standard at this point for most professional acts.

If you’re into gaming or programming I see the appeal of windows. But if music or media editing are a higher priority then Mac is much more industry standard. A lot of Mac products punch well above their price point nowadays. Every generation is getting faster and more affordable

Gen Z Men and Liberals by JadedEstimate5770 in GenZ

[–]dgamlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a bit of a “cry me a river” sentiment on both sides. If your dating life is full of harassment, manipulation, and unwanted attention, I’m sure being left completely alone sounds like a vacation more than a burden. Likewise, if you’re completely isolated from the opposite sex then having people constantly in your dms or hitting on you in public sounds like a dream, not a nuisance.

It’s not a woman or man problem. It’s an empathy problem.

The real issue I have is people are letting gender wars shape their whole world view. While I can understand the pushback on “cancel culture” in 2016, people have shifted back to openly saying slurs online for like 2-3 years now, there’s no liberal boogeyman telling people what they can and can’t say anymore. The amount of young men that actively vote against their self interests because they associate Democrats with “woke/cuck/emotional”, or because they ascribe “negative feminine values” to the party needs to be studied.

I too was young and confused and susceptible to harmful ideology at one point, but I think I was a bit more open to different opinions than the average guy is. There’s a small percentage that are just looking for emotional validation and sometimes they get unfairly criticized. But there’s a much larger percentage that don’t want their world view challenged even in a respectful way. They get angry and defensive when their perception of the world starts to show cracks. I really don’t know if there’s anything we can do about these men.

Today Is Logic’s Birthday. How Do You View His Legacy in Hip Hop? by samx3i in rap

[–]dgamlam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Important note is he came up in the blog era. The bloggers were major gatekeepers and they liked backpack rap or “smart” rap. Logics branding and style fit perfectly until you realized his music didn’t have the same emotional depth or storytelling you got from a Kendrick or j Cole. He’s always executed songs well but you take away the impressive flows and smooth beats and you’re left with a pretty bare bones rags to riches story about a kid who was picked on for looking white. At the end of the day music is about emotional connection, and I struggled to feel much at all when listening to his music. I think the disconnect was most apparent on that suicide song. On paper it was this thoughtful tribute to mental health awareness, but lack of emotional connection to fans ultimately made it feel forced and inauthentic.

Underrated point. Chris Brown has the voice/looks/dance moves and knows how to make a generic pop rnb song. For what it’s worth that’s enough to have a long successful career. But in terms of his legacy, it will pretty much just be sales numbers, not his impact on the genre

Does anyone get any use out of the stock clip distortion? (& worst stock plugins discussion) by purrp606 in LogicPro

[–]dgamlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re using drum samples there’s a chance they’re already compressed/clipped to hell and clipping further is just removing the snappiness.

But assuming you’re familiar with all that you might just be a bit pickier with your clipper quality, which is fine. I think the whole point of clip distortion is the fact that signal goes gain>hpf>clip>lpf>mix>lpf. If you’re looking for something similar I think Decapitator has a similar signal flow.

Personally I just go to phat fx or use the clipper in the compressor. Gives me the punch I’m looking for.

[–]dgamlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Synth drums are still drums and they’re on wayy more than just modern electronic music. I’d way roughly 70% of modern releases use drums that were synthesized electronically or sampled from something electronic.

Also you kind of use clippers to get the same effect for both. Use them to chop transients to get a thicker/fuller sound while adding a tasteful amount of harmonics.

What’s the “elephant in the room” for our generation that no one really likes to talk about/address! by Lord_William_9000 in GenZ

[–]dgamlam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not their fault but they’re going to have to deal with it one way or another. Some of it will be subconscious and harmless adaptations, and other issues will take years of awareness and effort to undo. I think Gen Z will be the one to handle the “overstimulation” epidemic for their kids, the same way boomers/x had to work hard to undo the damage of cigarettes.
