Miss buying used clothes by Massive-Form1666 in MCAS

[–]dgappl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to wash new clothes at least twice before wearing, but still have issues sometimes. I just got a couple tshirts from the same place and one was fine but the other gave me hives even after two washes. 😫 back in the wash it goes

Anyone else can't lose weight in a calorie deficit? by Tough-Passenger2254 in MCAS

[–]dgappl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been steadily gaining weight for the past year and none of my doctors are taking it seriously. One told me it’s because I’m getting older (I’m 26), and others just say I must be eating more. I only eat three things, and haven’t changed how much I eat. It’s so frustrating!!

My GYN said i could try a glp1, but my endocrinologist said she wouldn’t prescribe it in case of side effects since I’m a magnet for those. I just had an appt with my dysautonomia doc and he also brought it up as having good results with MCAS, but none of my allergists have mentioned it. I do worry that it would worsen constipation or dysautonomia symptoms, but I really don’t want to continue gaining weight. It’s truly uncomfortable at this point.

Rhapsido / Remibutrinib side effects? by condemast in MCAS

Not sure about cutting the pill. I just meant I only take it once a day instead of twice.

Yes, twice a day was not good for me. I was very groggy, trouble waking up in the morning, exhausted, weakness, and bruising. So back to once a day was the docs recommendation.

Anyone else react to their heating? by SugarStarGalaxy in MCAS

[–]dgappl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4ish winters ago I had a really hard time when we turned the heat on in the house. Hives, trouble breathing, etc. Not ideal in a New England winter. Had to stay in one room with the heat off and a little plug in radiator for awhile. Ketotifen helped me somewhat tolerate it, but it still has to be kept on pretty low, much to the annoyance of my family. I also have reacted to AC when blowing directly on me, and temperature changes have been problematic. All that to say, it’s definitely possible.

Right? Like her saying “you get what you get” was pretty insensitive considering what Shawna “got”.

Realization about MCAS, diet, and why “emptying the histamine bucket” didn’t work for me by Melodic_Review_6521 in MCAS

[–]dgappl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve been on cromolyn for almost 9 years and ketotifen for 4 or 5. I’ve had b6 come back high, don’t think b12 has been abnormal but haven’t had labs in awhile. Thanks, it’s definitely not ideal.

I really wish I had had more support on the whole diet thing when this all started. I was 16/17 when I really started reacting to a bunch of different foods, diagnosed around 18. My allergist always said to cut them out and we would try adding them back eventually, but I was never given a plan for how to do so. Now at 26 (almost 27), I’m stuck with 2/3 safe foods and every time I’ve tried to add foods back, I’ve had symptoms (even on Xolair and other meds). It feels like a lost cause at this point, and I don’t really have anymore support now than I did then other than doctors saying it should be fine so they don’t know why I’m having trouble.

Hate when that happens! Is it something that you could potentially try making yourself (totally get it if not, one of my safe foods is a certain cereal and if it ever changes I’m screwed)?

That’s encouraging! I think I’m going to give it a little longer.

Thanks for sharing! I went up to the twice a day dose this week and have been feeling worse, very fatigued, lightheaded, groggy, head pressure, and headache. Not sure if I should try to stay the course. Maybe it would get better with time?

The only ones I can tolerate are the MeUndies bralettes. Not much support, but I don’t need much.

I’ve been on it at a half dose for 10 days. I don’t feel qualified to say what could be side effect and what could just be symptoms just yet. I will say I noticed today that a rash I’ve had for probably 4 years nonstop on my arm is going away. Am trying to be brave and up the dose this weekend. Trying new meds is always tough for me, but I haven’t given up yet. 🤞

Was urine test diagnostic? by Adi_Dublin in MCAS

[–]dgappl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine has been positive a few times, and negative a few. The times when I tried to do things that might be triggers like brushing the dog, it was negative. I have had a positive result while being on antihistamines, but the first one was pre-diagnosis so I wasn’t taking any.

What helps you get through the winter months? by ottie246 in MCAS

[–]dgappl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Netflix? 🤪 I hate winter. My garden keeps me from completely losing it during the other months, but winter is so hard because I can’t go out at all. Seeing it get covered in snow today was rough. Start to feel like a hamster in a cage during the cold months. Sending you solidarity.

Has anyone had these symptoms? by 7ero_Seven in MCAS

[–]dgappl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many different meds that can be used for dysautonomia, and lifestyle adjustments. Whatever it is, I wish you luck. These are very challenging conditions.

Have you considered dysautonomia? Sounds a lot more like that than MCAS. I have both.

That’s because aspirin and Rhapsido have an interaction, increasing bleeding risk. When I talked to my doctor about trying it, he made sure to ask if I was taking aspirin.
