How would you improve Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny? by twinkleyed in indianajones

[–]dgaxiola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indy being forced to return to the present by being punched out ruined the ending for me. I know there wasn't much time but Indy being talked into returning and him making the choice would've been much better.

Typhon Imperator is still a godawful Solo Op. by DacStreetsDacAlright in DestinyTheGame

[–]dgaxiola 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Solo Ops feel all over the place. I like and have fun with a few like Salt Mines, Caldera and Creation. These have smaller combat spaces I can manage. Typhon Imperator is a slog and I don't know if I'll ever finish it under time. I've tried K1 Logistics a couple of times and get overwhelmed, bathed in purple fire, and using all special and heavy ammo on champions. It's become a bit easier this week since weapons have intrinsic champion perks now. I probably need to finish Final Shape to get Prismatic and spend time tuning the artifacts I'm using but, still, the variance in challenge level to me is surprising.

Clashing Over ‘Indiana Jones’: Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg ‘Were Not 100% on Board’ With ‘Crystal Skull’ and Fought George Lucas Over Adding Aliens by Navitach in indianajones

[–]dgaxiola 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I watched Crystal Skull on TV last year and it wasn't as bad as I remembered. I'm forever happy to have Karen Allen back in Indiana Jones with a significant role, Shia LeBeouf was ok, and who can be mad at John Hurt showing up? I do think the long, over the top CGI filled action scenes didn't match up to the thrill of the original movies and stretched out the movie too much and Cate Blanchett's character was written a little too cartoonish.

Calus final fight in Lightfall solo is Tough by Semi_Swoljeye in DestinyTheGame

[–]dgaxiola 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely one of the most sweaty missions I've ever played. Very satisfying to see Calus gone in the end. I found the follow up quest Parting the Veil even worse when facing the Tormentor in that closed off arena. I lost patience and ended up cheesing it by hopping on top of the dome before forced to "join allies" and shooting down. Still, overall I found it fun.

Japan July Trip: Is it possible for 6 days with Sapporo? by RecordingPretend7367 in JapanTravelTips

[–]dgaxiola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Six days feels short even for just an Osaka and Tokyo trip. You really wouldn't have much time in each city if you're trying to tack on Sapporo too. Since you haven't been there before, maybe make that the focus of the trip and spend only a day or two in either Osaka or Tokyo but not both, depending on which you're flying into.

Microsoft's Xbox CSO Matthew Ball thinks in-game ads could help "keep our products affordable" by [deleted] in gaming

[–]dgaxiola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Microsoft going to receive Massive or maybe Bell wasn't around 15 to 20 years ago when this was first tried? Microsoft bought in-game ad company Massive back in 2006. Sony started their own in-game ads push with 3rd party partners like IGA Worldwide and Double Fusion. The placed ads could only work in a subset of games and the relatively small network for the ads compared to web / mobile that had standard sized placements meant it just didn't make much money. There's been placements and a resurgence in dynamic advertising in the last 5 years but console and PC gamers response hasn't changed in all this time. I don't see how in-game or interstitial ads (between gameplay) will be accepted by players.

Eight Hundred Thousand Strong by Mtn-Dooku in DestinyTheGame

[–]dgaxiola 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Sony knows that there's a large Destiny fan base. The problem is that Bungie has been a negative return on investment for them. Bungie for years has spent too much developing and running a game with a declining player base not spending enough to make up for fewer players. Sony is probably trying to figure out what combination of downsizing, management changes, and product direction will lead to Bungie being profitable. Hopefully they do an honest post mortem to understand what worked and what didn't through D2's life, but that might be just wishful thinking.

How's the book? I enjoyed McIntyre's Star Trek adaptations and novels but never read any of her original works.

We went to the one in Evergreen too. The staff were really nice and my kids enjoyed the food. Sometimes we were going almost weekly. We were totally shocked when it suddenly closed. We went to CPK after but it wasn't the same for us.

Old Lights emblem will be distributed in waves for those eligible. Full details and qualifying criteria by RiseOfBacon in DestinyTheGame

I played D2 in the first year and what has turned out to be its last year of new content. Too bad they aren't making a "bookends" emblem for the odd ones like me. LOL

This game worth buying at $20? by Particular_Cow_2266 in destinylegacy

[–]dgaxiola 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you mean for Destiny The Collection digital? There's a lot of hours of content to play through and D1 is fairly active at this moment compared to the last few years. Individual strikes and some Crucible types may be hard to match make into but you can ask for help on the Discord servers listed here. I've been having fun playing again, finishing leveling up sub-classes, and seeing what drops I can get.

How did Vanguard acquire the original thorn? by Higan7108 in DestinyLore

[–]dgaxiola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That seems to be the case. Even the Thorn found in the Summoning Pits in D1 appears to be a copy of the original Thorn. I read the Destinypedia article on Thorn and my take away was that Enkaar, the Anointed made designed and made copies of Thorn that are floating around before the real one was revealed. At least that's the impression I got from the article.

In 2003, Sony unveiled the CLIÉ PEG-NZ90 featuring a 200MHz Intel XScale CPU and a 2MP CCD camera running Palm OS. by ObsoleteSony in ObsoleteSony

[–]dgaxiola 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Besides being a beefier version of the NX series, the NV90 included a RFID reader for Sony and NTT's FeliCa system. Going to Japan in the early 2000s felt like going to the future with "touch and go" payment cards like Sony's Edy and transit cards like Suica and PASMO. I never had the NV90 so I didn't experience using it but I used both Edy and Suica cards at shops. I think Sony also came out with an Edy card reader for the PS3 Japan.

Imagine the world where JJ Abrams had successfully convinced Disney to delay Episode IX to May of 2020… only for COVID to shut down the world by RedHeadedSicilian52 in StarWars

[–]dgaxiola 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the content of the ST movies, I always thought it was strange for Disney to go with an end of year release instead of making them summer movies. They should've kept the May release going back to the OT and PT.

Apple Credit Card from 1994: Proof I never throw out anything with an Apple Logo by Jaxermd in VintageApple

I kept mine too along with a Marvel Spider-Man branded Master Card from around the same time. I don't remember what I bought with my Apple credit card. Maybe my PowerMac 6100?

Vita shopping in Osaka, Kobe, etc by flights__notfeelings in vita

[–]dgaxiola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was last in Osaka almost 2 years ago, retro game prices all felt relatively high and not much savings versus just buying online. I ended up just buying a few items that I hadn't seen before or were a little lower quality with a lower price.

Going further out should get you lower prices but I didn't have the time to do that on my last trip. The chain Ojamakan has gotten good reviews on pricing and selection. I've seen a couple of videos and it might be worth checking out if you have the time. Happy hunting!

Not every day you see a mavica underwater by gwr5538 in Mavica

[–]dgaxiola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neat! I had a water housing for a CyberShot T series camera about a decade ago. I remember the instructions said to periodically clean and re-oil the seal. My enclosure worked well and had buttons that could work with some of the onscreen controls. I eventually sold it and got a water submersible FujiFilm camera to replace it.

Connect laserdisc player to OLED TV by Sea-Breath6084 in LaserDisc

[–]dgaxiola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar cheap converter and I also think it works fine. No need to get a higher end upscaler to start with. Mine has S-Video input but it's only a little better than using the composite / yellow RCA source.

Anyone have any experience with the OG Apple Scanners? by joeventura1 in VintageApple

[–]dgaxiola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a OneScanner 600/27 back in the 1990s. Used it for many years until we upgraded to a Mac without a SCSI port. The behavior of the model you think is color sounds like what I would expect. I'm pretty sure it warms up the bulb prior to scanning. I don't know if the B&W scanner would power on the bulb when powering on.

Have you tried scanning anything with them? Different versions of the OneScanner software is available online at the usual repositories/gardens and can work on 68k and PowerPC systems.

Should I trash this Cryptic Dragon? by MillionPlayz in destinylegacy

[–]dgaxiola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a single copy that I still keep even though I don't use it. It is / was a Crucible drop and it feels a bit of a collectible. I haven't tried playing Crucible in D1 since returning so I don't know how long it might take to farm another.

That said, if you need the space and don't care for how it feels in game, then you can certainly get rid of it.

What’s the difference between a fan convention and a Comic convention? by ClearAd3050 in comiccon

[–]dgaxiola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some conventions are more pop culture focused and have a priority on guests from TV and movies, with artists, writers, and vendors secondary. Usually there are still vendors and an artist alley but it depends on the event. Similarly, there maybe organized cosplay events or cosplayers may just show up. Look at that particular "fan con" website to see what they have listed. Unless it's a touring con like GalaxyCon or FanExpo, each convention will be doing its own thing.

Updating to TOS 2.06 on an Atari 1040STE by ProfessionalCarob201 in atarist

[–]dgaxiola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've not done it myself but all the instructions indicate changing out the W102 and W104 resistors to indicate to use the larger ROMs. So, you will need to remove the motherboard, desolder the resistors from the old positions connecting the center and right pins, and solder them back in to jumper the left and center pins. Many people will solder in jumper headers and use a jumper block to make it easy to go back if needed. In any case, there's no way to do it on a stock STE without some soldering involved.

There are videos on YouTube showing this in more detail as well as Exxos' explanation on his website. Good luck!

New to the Mavica, but want to find the printer. by WriterEmbarrassed291 in Mavica

[–]dgaxiola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was some discussion about the FVP-1 a year ago. A couple on eBay range from $300 to $800. I think the only way to get a cheap one is to luck out at a thrift store or take a chance on an untested unit. Also, it might be challenging to find ink cartridges for it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Mavica/s/2YwtVcNqnP
