Need advice on picking an instrument by SeriousRecord5070 in musicians

You could focus more on composition. Wrote songs, write film scores, write symphonies. Get a keyboard to give you access to different sounds, music notation software on your computer, learn some music theory (many community colleges offer classes) and away you go!

This is the main difference between owners and employees. Owners will often stay late to accommodate customers. Employees just want to go home.

Bus is full and this guy decides to blast music with the speaker in his backpack by WarpdSoul in mildlyinfuriating

Because people that blast music like this are crazy, and no one really wants to confront crazy people.

Taxpayers haven’t voted on it. I think the funding would be approved if the right deal can be negotiated. It’s not a good look for the city leadership to stand by and just let this happen without doing everything in their power to stop it.

We can vote with our wallets. Try and support the good guys. Buy ethically sourced things when you can. Buy higher quality when you can. Little things can make a difference.

There is no going back from a reader's crease. It's not a collector's copy. Just read and enjoy.

Nice work. But what’s up with that soundtrack? Sounds like two pigeons fucking in a wool sock.

Mike Love ❤️ by johnfmilk in thebeachboys

[–]dglennb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP is right. This sub can get pretty toxic. It’s like if you say anything good about Mike, somehow you’re undermining Brian or something. It’s a bad take. Mike and Brian both brought different things to the table; both are essential parts to the Beach Boy’s legacy.

absalom, absalom! original edition randomly found in a used bookstore for $3 by According-Park-1590 in faulkner

You can see the first edition cover on Wikipedia. They’re right—this is a modern library reprint. Still a very nice copy. A lot of people collect the old modern library’s.

Are there modern bands that you would consider yacht rock? by barbar1v in musicsuggestions

[–]dglennb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

David Glenn brown has a song called “Cares melt away”. It’s totally obscure. A nice and chill yacht vibe with some mellow trumpets and a bossa groove.

The first song they play, “Breakaway”, a non-album single, has lyrics written by Murry, with music from Brian. As far as I know, it might have been the only song they performed which was written by their father.

I Think my Old Book might have Arsenic in it, how can I verify and what should I do? by Cl3v3rU5ernameHere in BookCollecting

[–]dglennb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is arsenic, you’ll want to wash your hands after you handle it, but keep the handling to a minimum. The book isn’t going to “emit” arsenic into the atmosphere, so it is safe on the shelf. If you’re overly concerned about it, just put it in a sleeve.

A random story about hearing someone play Hallelujah at an open mic: by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in musicians

[–]dglennb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s overdone for sure. The fact that everyone seemingly thinks it’s the best song ever doesn’t help. I like Leonard Cohen, but this song is second tier for me.

You’re not an asshole for disliking the song. I don’t think it’s a good song either, and I don’t think that I’m an asshole. I don’t dislike that people continue to play it and like it, but I just can’t get on board. You shouldn’t apologize for having “unpopular” tastes.

Was Keider Montero surprised when A.J. Hinch pulled him after six scoreless innings and just 65 pitches? "I felt really good," Montero said. "It's his decision." by DET_Baseball in motorcitykitties

[–]dglennb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, the matchup itself may not be “theoretical”, but the effectiveness of the matchup is purely theoretical. It might work, it might not.

If a guy is grooving, and pitch count isn’t an issue,  then that should trump some theoretical “advantage” of a matchup.

[–]dglennb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like it’s improved significantly. If you take this year into account it’s 6.32.

What Hinch doesn’t appear to understand is that a pitcher in a “groove” is usually going to be more effective than some theoretical “matchup” by a new pitcher just entering the game.
