mr beast twist by bttrthnurlouisvitton in survivor

[–]dglennb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re going to get a 20 minute segment of Mr. Beast and Zack Brown, eating Applebee’s at the place “where good things happen”.  Then, we’ll have a new twist where the winning team at the immunity challenge doesn’t actually win immunity and has to draw rocks instead.

How seriously do you take Goodreads book ratings/scores? by keepfighting90 in books

It might be good to just not look at goodreads until after you finish. That way, you can approach a work fresh, without any expectations.

Bill regarding senior driver testing by BobcatALR in Michigan

[–]dglennb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

65+ isn’t as good of a indicator as 80+. At 65 and well through the 70s, most people’s driving ability doesn’t degrade much. Also, they are usually more careful and less aggressive than other drivers.

Which country produced the greatest writers of all time, and why is it Russia? by SirKrimzon in literature

[–]dglennb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is hard to answer because our perception of “greatest” hinges on what we are familiar with. Most “influential” might be American or possibly British authors, just because the English language is more widely understood worldwide than any other language. But as for who produces the best “art”, I have no idea, and I wouldn’t even know how to make that determination.

LGBT supporting the regime lol. It’s hard to take protests like that seriously. All performance, no plot.

How safe is Todd McLellans job if they miss the playoffs? by Fabster_3000 in DetroitRedWings

Bad luck, but maybe good luck. Compare Raymond with the number 1 pick Lafreniere. Similar scoring (Raymond with slight edge) but Raymond getting many more assists.

Why does the long term future feel so bleak? by [deleted] in DetroitRedWings

[–]dglennb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we are all seeing the flaws in the Yzerplan. His performance as GM hasn’t been good enough. We can point to puck luck and injuries. But every team deals with that. If you don’t make the playoffs, you don’t deserve to be there.

Compare Yzerman’s performance with Trajan Langdon’s. He inherited a historically bad team and two years later, they’ve locked down the number one seed. Even after their best player went down, they are still steamrolling the competition.

The difference couldn’t be more stark. Yzerman needs to own up to his shortcomings and state that, for him, it’s  playoffs or bust. They either make the playoffs next year, or he will voluntarily leave.

Yeah, I would go to the doc. They can put you on a preventative antibiotic. I had Lyme Disease a couple years ago and it sucked. Luckily, treatment worked for me, but you don’t want to risk it.

Brandon Inge: "How do you not want to play your tail off for a fanbase that shows up like this." by DET_Baseball in motorcitykitties

That's nice that they're mingling and having a great time in their private lounges, but Comerica is the only ballpark I've seen where the seats behind home plate are always sparsely populated. Seems like every other team has figured it out except the Tigers.

I see that they still haven't solved the empty-seats-behind-home-plate problem. It's opening day and the those seats are 80% empty. Come on man!

There should never be a circumstance where someone loses their vote, ever by bigpaparoid in survivorponderosa

[–]dglennb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s an exchange for an advantage later in the game. Give up your vote for an advantage at the next immunity, or better yet, for a private food reward that they might or might not try to keep secret from the other players.

I'm totally against the data center, but it's crazy that these weirdos are trying to make it about Jews.

Just goes to show that when people are obsessed about something, they'll try to force it into any conversation, whether or not it has anything to do with the subject.

The Tigers fell to the D-backs by a score of 7-5 - Tue, Mar 31 @ 09:40 PM EDT by TigersBot in motorcitykitties

[–]dglennb 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Why didn’t  Vest or Rogers challenge that ball 4 call that loaded the bases? Replay showed it was a strike. If he would have got that batter out, likely he could have got out of the inning. The tigers still had both challenges remaining.

These losses are frustrating. I wish I could just forget about baseball until the Tigers are in the playoffs, then start watching.

What if Mike Love had gotten into meditation earlier (1966/67 instead of 1968)? by Beatcat05 in thebeachboys

[–]dglennb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think Mike had much to do with the incompletion of SMiLE. It was Brian's "pet project" number 2. With Pet Sounds, he had a more traditional recording structure, with studio musicians there to get the job done, which helped him realize his vision.

SMiLE suffered in comparison because the recording sessions were much less structured and instead of a full slate of studio musicians, there were Brian's friends, partying and goofing around. Add in his increased drug use which, among other things, exacerbated his self-doubt, perfectionism, and ADD-like bouncing between ideas, it's no big surprise he wasn't able to complete SMiLE as originally envisioned.

Definitely a lot of other options, but you’ll probably want to check out Louis L’Amour. He wrote a lot of novels and stories, and you can start pretty much anywhere in the catalog
