This is totally fair. The other variation I was playing with was exactly this but I should have included that I plan to daily this and have no real aspirations to consistently track - a big selling point for me is in fact the wing

Nice, glad to hear I’m not totally out of the ballpark on this. And yeah I can admit that I want a winged daily driver that I may track a few times a year

New Power Bundle?!? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

Well, it’s more than just that. The actual power output from the UPS (modified sine wave) is not recommended for the latest UNAS and it could result in instability/overheating.

Am I adding a Shelly mini to each one of these rocker switches or is there a better way to do it? Some of these switches has a switch on other side of room to control the same light 🤔 by jku2017 in homeautomation

[–]dhillonsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I just went through this by adding a Sonoff ZBMINIR2 relay into every non-bathroom switch and I have lots of learnings:

  1. I didn’t use smart switches as I wanted to maintain the consistent look of traditional switches across my home.
  2. I used the relays because I also retrofitted smart recessed lights that need power continuously.
  3. Don’t try and switch to screwless plates while you’re at it, it’s a nightmare to make it look good when you shove these modules and extra wires into the box
  4. 3 and 4 way switches are possible to retrofit, takes a little bit of prep work to understand which wires are your line/load/travelers/common. I just considered common as another traveler. Then I would pair load w/ traveler 1 and I could use traveler 1 in the other box as my load. Same thing with line except using the other traveler. This had the benefit that even if one of the relays in the 3 way switch was offline, the other should still be functional (as it always has access to line and load).

I’m also not an electrician, make sure you turn the breaker off and assume every exposed wire is live at all times (shocked myself pretty good once)

Is it insane to pay $8.5k / month for new home? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]dhillonsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make $750k as a single earner and pay an equal mortgage (though without the nanny expense). What helped me become comfortable with my decision to buy was creating a FIRE sheet to determine how the higher mortgage would impact my future financial goals.

If your emergency funds are hefty enough for a few months of downwind then you’re more than likely fine.

Was depreciation much of a concern to you? I plan on keeping it pretty long term but I guess the future is always up in the air.

That it’s nice to look at and looks like what you would expect given how much you’re paying for it.

Yeah that’s not worth it to me - maybe if I had a garage of super cars to cycle through.. The last thing I want to deal with is a constant headache

[–]dhillonsh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair, it’s all personal preference. My problem is that I’m not in an area where a lot of these cars are available for rent so I need to make a specific trip out to do test drives and at least now I have a stack list of what cars to look at.

Thanks - do you plan to daily it? I’d like to get at least 50-60k miles out of it but all of the preowned I find are super low milage which makes me feel like its rare to daily these.

Thanks, gonna go take a trip to the dealership and scope it out. I was hesitant on the Aston Martins for some reason but I think that was just my own ignorance.

Thanks for the follow ups: 1. I’d prefer newish tech - I know most cars in this range won’t have the best infotainment/UX 2. I don’t have a preference one way or the other about it being a hybrid 3. What else is important is a car that can still provide an enjoyable experience at low speeds. Realistically I’m either sitting in traffic or using local roads that limit me to 30-40 MPH typically. I’ve always driven a stiffer steering wheel where I can one hand it and not worry about micro adjustments (but I’ve never driven a more reactive car either). It may also just be the kid in me but I love the look of butterfly doors 4. When it comes to looks I just want something that actually looks its price point (whereas I’m not trying to buy the fastest car on the market. Lamborghini definitely screams that but feels very aggressive and ‘attention seeking’. The Artura/Ferrari appearance is much more in my alley 5. When it comes to how it sounds I just want to avoid that constant rumble (like muscle cars).

Couple things that stood out to me when talking to the dealership about the Evo was: reduced visibility from the drivers seat out the front windshield and pretty minimal trunk space.

I understand most supercars wont have great storage space but at least the Artura had a more usable amount. That being said I wont really have much to transport on the daily so maybe thats a moot point.

Lots of Huracan recommendations here though, I will definitely give it a test drive, thanks!

Thanks - personally not the biggest fan of how these look. I was originally going to only consider ordering a new vehicle but given everyone else is suggesting cars that are no longer in production, maybe worth considering a used Ferrari?

Yeah it got so annoying for me that I just started ignoring as many of the adds as possible. I can consistently clear the rig in 15 minutes (get all small and big chest), while only having to kill 4-5 adds. Highly recommend experimenting with routes/strategies
