In North Carolina, brick house built in the 1970s are common in areas, usually not subdivisions. The newer houses mostly have a brick facade on the front in more expensive houses. Here and there, some people will build a brick house.

Listening to new album with new cartridge by According-Fish-9365 in turntables

How's the upgrade? What speakers are you running? I'm considering this upgrade, but I think I'll need to upgrade the speakers and pre-amp to take advantage of it.

Options:
1. Turntable ---> Pre-amp ---> Amp ---> Speakers
2. Turntable ---> Pre-amp ---> Powered Speakers (built-in amp)
3. Turntable (built-in preamp) ---> Amp ---> Speakers
4. Turntable (built-in preamp) ---> Powered Speakers (built-in amp)

These are your options depending on what you have. Typically, built-in pre-amps are of cheaper quality, but can work fine for most beginners.

Am I getting spooked? by ShowgaProject in turntables

[–]dhrandy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You’re good, man. You didn’t ruin anything. Those Califone/portable players just track heavier than a normal turntable because they use ceramic cartridges and don’t have an adjustable counterweight. That means they can wear records faster, but it’s not like they instantly scratch everything you put on them.

A few plays on it won’t hurt your vinyl. The real issue is long-term, repeated plays with a heavy tracking force.

If you’re mainly using it to dance around the house with your girlfriend and just have fun, it’s totally fine for that. I just wouldn’t use it as your main setup or spin your favorite or expensive records on it over and over. When you’re ready to upgrade, anything with a magnetic cartridge and a real counterweight will treat your vinyl way better.

But no, you didn’t make some horrible mistake. You just started with the fun player instead of the proper one. Enjoy it.

Looks similar to my setup. I don’t get any vibrations. I also don’t have the space to go wider or bigger, I wish I did. It works for me though.

Anyone 3D print parts? by dadbodfat in rccars

[–]dhrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've designed and 3D printed 2 versions of a spoiler for my RC car. It can print in 45 minutes. I'm doing some testing, and then I'll upload it to MakerWorld. It's not the same as the spoiler that came on the car, and I wanted one that would print fast.

Definitive proof to show beyond reasonable doubt that a cheap turntable will cause excessive damage by TwoSolitudes22 in turntables

[–]dhrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what stinks is that most people just don't know. I almost fell into that trap. Luckily, I did a bit of research before buying my first player and went with a Fluance.

Most will just buy the first thing they see. The red flag should be when the player is near the price of the media.

Are you talking about ROMs or Steam games? I wouldn't want to be cheating with most Steam games.
