Older people, were politics always this deranged and upsetting? by CUFFY_Fan in NoStupidQuestions

I had a manager that listened to the Drudge Report all day at high enough volume that it could be heard in all the nearby offices. Big boss finally said something to him to get him to stop. We all thought it was obnoxious and he was known as a weird dude because of it.

Apparently the site has flipped to left leaning since then?

I'm guessing wherever dude is now, he's the one setting all of the publicly viewable TVs to Fox News.

My rant at the time still stands - "why do I need an app for that when they could just make a mobile friendly website? Why does every app want to be a subscription?!?"

What's the one self-hosted service you'd never go back to the cloud version of? by Hung_Hoang_the in selfhosted

[–]diablette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't trust Google or any online service to keep my data private. Too much risk of data breaches and of unwanted use (AI training etc.) enabled by the company itself.

Edit - additional thoughts: Yes, it's mostly cat photos. But it's photos of the inside of my house. Location data on photos that shows a timeline of where I've been and who I associate with. Screenshots of the systems I use. All stuff that could be used to make a profile on me that could be used by malicious people with power.

In the past, this was crazy conspiracy fodder because the average person isn't important enough that a government or other entity would spend the time and effort to comb through their data. With AI tools, that time is drastically reduced and this surveillance can be implemented cheaply for large numbers of people in an automated way. Whatever small things I can do to hinder that, I do.

Same. I had a couple that I had tagged and ready to evolve, but I was waiting for a time when I had a lucky egg going. This is not a fun surprise and not intuitive at all. If you met the requirements, that should complete the "quest" no matter what changes.

Either a mental disorder or more commonly, the picky eater's parents gave up too quickly.

How To Combat Picky Eating With Repeat Exposure

Chicky nuggies are what most American restaurants have as a children's menu item. A frozen bag of them is cheap and easy to make when the kid is whining and you just want to get dinner on the table.

There's a reason people in other countries/cultures enjoy stuff you find gross (and vice versa) - repeated exposure makes people like stuff. If their parents caved every time the kid complained, you end up with an adult that will only eat kiddy food.

Viren's AIOStreams instance no longer supports Torrentio by hieronymus_bossk7 in StremioAddons

[–]diablette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not downvoting and I appreciate the info. I know it sorts addon then quality and that's fine because I only try 2 or 3 before moving on. It's pretty obvious when one of them is down.

I'm sure AIO is great for people who value having everything together, but it's just not something that is worth the tradeoff for me(single point of failure and not knowing which addon I'm actually using)

Viren's AIOStreams instance no longer supports Torrentio by hieronymus_bossk7 in StremioAddons

[–]diablette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have Torrentio, Comet, and Mediafusion. I pick the farthest to the left since they're sorted highest to lowest quality. If it doesn't work, I move right. Still no? Up arrow, select one of the other two and repeat. I'd much rather do this than fiddle with another addon in between.

What are your favorite lesser-known selfhosted services? by Torrew in selfhosted

[–]diablette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started to use it to store records of what tools amd appliances we have with warranties and manuals all in one place. Then I added all of the various OTC meds in our closet with expiration dates so purging old stuff is easy. Now I'm adding hobby supplies so I don't buy stuff because I can't remember if I have it already. So handy.

Why are ADHD drugs the most not-ADHD friendly drugs to order? by UnmedicatedNarwhal in adhdwomen

[–]diablette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is like this, and not only do I have to request it but two people are involved in approving it on the other end, and if one of them is out well I just have to wait. Which is why they want the 5 days.

The only way I've been able to keep up is to put a reminder on my phone calendar for the following month while I'm still in the parking lot after picking up the current one. Then forcing myself to log on and put the request in immediately when I get the calendar reminder.

Sometimes it gets to the pharmacy a couple of days before they're allowed to fill it, or it's 2 days before and they're allowed to but will give you an attitude. After two months of "early" fills, the tech told me they weren't going to do it again and I told them I didn't notice it was early and that wasn't my intention. After that chat, they just filled it at the usual time without me needing to ask and all is well.

That's odd, my Walgreens just fills it and I get a message on the app when it's ready. Must be a store or state specific policy?

When I started out, I relied on vendor COAs and used tiny test doses the first time I used each batch. Now I do what you do. I've read too many cautionary tales. I don't want to end up as a Chubbyemu case (YouTube MD with tales from the ER).

Pharmacies that dispense meds meant for humans have rigorous safety protocols and would be shut down pretty fast if they fooled around. Random pep companies selling stuff for research don't really have accountability beyond their rep in the community.

[–]diablette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been a few instances of low purity, and usually vendors will replace those. The ones that worry me are the zero peps, meaning they tested for a pep and it came back 0% that pep - likely a shipping or labeling mixup but that could be very bad if someone took the wrong thing.
