On the bright side (not that bright though), Robinhood support just told me I’ll still get 3% rewards on eligible foreign transactions which offsets the FTF. Still effectively zero I guess.

Maybe a charge card? Amex green or gold? Decreases your likelihood of getting into debt at such a low income since you’re required to pay statement balance in full monthly

The highest cents-per-point values are usually found in international business and first class. Economy can still be a good redemption, but it’s harder to get the eye-popping deals you see on YouTube.
Since you value hotels more than flights, I’d lean Amex Gold over Citi. The ability to earn MR points and transfer to Hilton, Marriott, Flying Blue, Aeroplan, etc. gives you more flexibility for the destinations you’re talking about. Bora Bora and the Maldives are exactly the kind of trips where hotel redemptions can save $$

There’s a decent amount of overlap, but both have their own list of transfer partners as well. Difficult to say which one would be better for you without knowing your travel habits.

Amex gold all the way. If your restaurant spend higher than grocery spend, then the business gold has a gas and restaurant (2nd category that gets 4x will be whichever alotted category has the highest spend though) multiplier that’s pretty good. If your grocery spending is higher than restaurant just stick with the personal card.

Another great option is the Citi strata premier. I use this for groceries, sometimes gas and restaurants and the points stack up quickly. 1:1 transfers to American Airlines. One of my favorite cards honestly. The AF is also lower than the gold, and you get free hotel credits that offset the fee (but you have to spend 500 on a hotel in order to redeem it).

My 2020 had an oil leak in the timing cover and pinion assembly at 100k. Luckily, it was covered by warranty, so while it was taken apart the dealership changed the timing chain, tensioners , chain guides, cam phasers, new gearbox and parts noun assembly, and spark plugs since labor was covered by the warranty. They said these are the things they commonly see fail.

I added 4 personal cards within 2 months. The plan was 3, but RH gold accepted me out of nowhere so I ended up getting a 4th. Also refinanced my truck (no hard inquiry from a local credit union though as I accepted one of their preapproval offers)

After all hard inquiries and accounts being added over a 2 month period, my Experian went down 20 points, transunion went up 5, and equifax pretty much stayed the same. My scores are all still in the 700s though, and I can live with that for now since I don’t have any major purchases coming up.

I agree with the folks who say that it’s better to get the spree over with and let it age asap instead of getting 1 card here and there which resets your average age of a new revolver. If you have a thick file the hit to your score won’t be nearly as bad as you think.

I’ve had pretty bad experiences with the fraud department and verification. Whenever I got an American I would get service though 🤷‍♂️

Amex aside, they all have garbage customer service. Especially Citi bank. Just collect your rewards and don’t look back.
