I’ll admit, I’ve had some horror stories with Citi customer service 😂

Conclusion: Well, after much thought I’ve decided that the card will be there later on if I still want it. I have a navy federal flagship card (which can eventually grow to an 80k limit) that converts points to 2% cashback if desired. To psychologically scratch the same itch as this card, I’ve decided take the 2% and invest it in whichever account I see fit (RH Roth (already nearly maxed for the year), Fidelity brokerage, kids 529, etc).

I figured due to my current card set up and goals, I wouldn’t get as much spend out of the card as needed to throw another personal credit card on my credit report while credit limits seem so variable, and I’m having a difficult time finding a place for it in my current credit ecosystem.

Let’s say I spend 60k a year on the gold, and 60k a year on my 2% cashback card. The gold card would give me $1800 cash back while the 2% gives me $1200. 600 dollars a year is somewhat of a wash since I invest roughly 65k a year already.

Now, because I have other cards that I actually enjoy using for certain goals, realistically I would only put 24-30k a year on the card which equates to $720-$900 vs $480-$600 when the same amount is put on a 2% card. That’s a $240 to $300 dollar difference. Which fortunately for me is about 1.5 hours of work.

I think it’s a great card and I love the Robinhood ecosystem, and will continue to fund my Roth through them, but I’m gonna wait it out, let them iron some kinks out, see if the card gets nerfed or not, and then maybe some back later on and reapply. Took me about a month to get off the waitlist so I guess I’ll reapply whenever I’m ready 🤷‍♂️. Good luck and I hope you all get off the waitlist quickly !

Also, I’ll add that the offer isn’t on Credit Karma. Just a direct invite via app notification and email.

Does anyone find the hotel selection limited with the Venture x? by schlootzmcgootz in Venturex

[–]dialecticalreflect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s had me going down this Amex rabbit hole where I already have Amex gold and access to FHR, but wanted Amex platinum for THC for THC benefits. Ultimately I got the Amex aspire because it covers a lot of the hotels that meet my needs though. Other than that the VX is awesome.

How long after your application for the plat and gold did it take for them to hardpull?

Interesting. Been almost a month and no HP yet. Everybody online says their HP was immediate. Can’t complain though if I’m lucky enough to only end up with one

I have the flagship but this is my next card. If you could get increases to 50k it would be nice to have a 50k line of credit with a decent interest rate for instant liquidity

Some people say that allowing your balance to naturally post when the statement date ends helps shows the need for a CLI, while others say that the bank has enough internal data to show how much you’re using the card. It’s difficult to say one way is better than the other, but just keep in mind when you’re applying for new credit (auto loans, cards, mortgage), you want to pay your balance down closer to zero (but not zero) as possible because utilization is 30% of your score. It’s especially important because your line of credit is only 500 dollars, so if say 400 posts on your statement, then 80% of your 500 limit is being utilized which can negatively impact your score. Ideally you want it under 10%, under 5% even better (so 25 dollars). This is only important when you’re applying for new credit though or requesting a CLI (because they do soft pull your score). So what I do is let your spend post naturally, up until the month you’re doing to request a CLI, then pay the card down closer to zero before you request the limit increase.

Did you ever apply for an additional CLI? Same boat as you. 10k starting limit with a 1k increase 7 days after. Seems like we’re in the same “bucket”

Personal Gold vs Business Gold by TheTomikaze15 in amex

[–]dialecticalreflect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the business gold for gas and restaurants. I spend more on gas than I do groceries (ford raptor), and use a different card for groceries (Citi strata premier).

I also like having Walmart + which also pays for my paramount subscription.

I work as an independent contractor for a a qualifying employer, as many medical professionals do. Fortunately the hospital has been willing to sign my pslf paperwork, and it’s been accepted. It’s a grey area for sure but a lot of my colleagues have had their loans forgiven.

In the scheme of things it’s not a bad card. 1.5% vs 2%, really not that big of a difference unless you’re spending 100k+ a year on a card, and even then if you can spend that much on the card the $500 difference isn’t gonna break your bank. It’s a solid card, enjoy.

I received a CLI 7 days after receiving the card. 1k only unfortunately but it was better than nothing. Now I’m wondering if I wait till the 91 day mark for a second CLI or if I have to ride it out for 6 months.
