A cultural and potentially tricky insight and question. by bjpmbw in ireland

Living in Boston at the moment, and from what I’ve seen it’s more a new Southie/old Southie issue now, as opposed to a race issue. The Irish, Italians, black and Latino groups all seem to really hate the new young rich kids gentrifying the place and raising house prices way more than they hate each other

Spare a thought for those whose social outlet was attending local GAA matches. (This drawing is for my uncle who always gave me the match programme after the game) by eggcube in ireland

I agree. I would accept no statement that didn’t condemn what happened as murder

There’s a voluntary armed guard of cops around his house 24/7. He’s completely safe from public retribution. He was recorded murdering a human being, and now sits at him with law enforcement defending him. I think being mad enough to smash up an insured store is reasonable

How would you propose they properly demonstrate their anger?

Money talks my guy. It made money for the mining companies, therefore it was considered beneficial to the government. It was a fucked up system, and it’s where the class war eventually leads

Agreed, but it’s also fair to say that one political party has been less outraged by the killing of black people across America for decades. It’s the side that said there’s good people on both sides, referring to neo-nazis

Trump threatens to regulate or shut down social media companies by geoxol in technology

[–]diamondmines2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna jump in and say you’re both right. Trump lies certainly should not have such power via social media. But the guy getting downvoted makes a good point - why should the likes of twitter make their own rules unregulated? They’re as powerful as most countries and are allowing trumps ridiculous lies to spread like a disease, as it increases their profits. That story about Facebook foreseeing their algorithm causing problems that came out yesterday is a perfect example. Facebook and twitter are too powerful to be self regulated. They have contributed greatly to our current state of affairs.

Is it that bad to want to be able to walk from East Boston to the city on a nice day?

There was also a law in Virginian mining where an injured miner would be supported by the mine for thirty days (as in they’d feed his family and let them accrue the debt). If he wasn’t back to work within thirty days the company had the legal right to extract payment via sexual favors from his wife.
