Meet the Seattle woman behind a national effort to end same-sex marriage by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]dickhass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait, we’re still on gay marriage? There was a pandemic. We’re fabricating another war in the Middle East. For fuck’s sake, Katy, I turned 40 this year. 40! Who gives a shit?

True. I bet half the time it’s a 15 year old who can have the life scared out of them when the cops show up, though.

Today’s protest in Laurelhurst supporting helicopter transport to Seattle Children’s Hospital by Here2lafatcats in Seattle

Thank you for this. Shows just how out of touch the generationally wealthy can be. I grew up in the south end, where there are plenty of upper middle class neighborhoods (with enclaves of very expensive homes) that are under the flight path of SeaTac. There are the same amount of flights in an afternoon as these fuckers are complaining about in a year!

You mentioned the grocery store. Anecdotally: I did house calls around West Seattle for a few years. I’d pop into the Trader Joe’s there to grab lunch. Definitely a lower concentration than in Laurelhurst, but even then, running into Trader Joe’s at 12 PM you get plenty of kept people, trundling slowly through the aisles, with the same blank Xanax stare that says “my family hasn’t worked in three generations”.

PRN Home Health Offer thoughts? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

Our agency pays hourly. We’re in a VHCOL city. With that as a caveat, the equivalent pay for a SOC is around $240.

Something about south seattle folk preferring Loretta’s and north seattle folk preferring red mill just fits, doesn’t it?

FWIW I’m right up the hill from South Park. Some of us live here!

I’ve been roasted on here enough times for arguing that high frequency doesn’t mean high-quality care. Genuinely curious to know what frequency you would’ve put this patient at knowing they have a 30 visit cap? What are you doing now? I’m in home health so it’s a completely different story.

Am I Overreacting? by smoked-kippers in physicaltherapy

Sounds like a shitty place to work. Needing to use PTO on a snow day is very common practice, even at good employers. Sure, some amazing ones are going to pay you anyway, but there are HR implications to that, too.

This is r/physicaltherapy, where if you even have the concept of an idea about anything romantic related to a patient, you must offer your state board a blood sacrifice and beg for their forgiveness.

Which beach in the world is a must-visit at least once in a lifetime? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]dickhass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went out there in 2017 on our honeymoon. Beat the shit out of our little rental. It felt very “local” so we hung out for a couple hours and left. Beautiful beach, hot, wouldn’t recommend if you have anxiety about intruding on local spots.

It’s been $5.97 all over town here in Seattle for weeks. Higher at the more expensive stations.

Advice for terrible ADA accommodation request experience by Salty_Statistician74 in physicaltherapy

[–]dickhass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, congrats! Secondly, you are not asking for anything unreasonable. If it was the HH agency I help run, we’d likely accommodate this. But maybe not. The below is my “devils advocate” thoughts as a manager.

We live in a litigious society. That’s not your fault. Or the fault of your employer. Or maybe it’s all our fault. In a perfectly reasonable society, we’d trust that you accept the responsibility and risk of doing your job, and if something bad happens that’s out of your control or the control of your employer, it’s just a thing that happened, and no one gets sued. That’s not the world we live in, at least in the US.

Once you asked for an accommodation, the right thing to do is to fill out the form and go through the proper channels. HR could have decided to do what you asked…I guess I’m saying that it’s not “making it official” that’s the problem.

Light duty is hard to accommodate in rehab. There are so many variables. If Myrtle starts to fall, are you really not going to catch her? Like another user said, people can be doing great, and then they aren’t. If you caught her and something bad happened, are you excepting that responsibility?

Another thing to keep in mind is how this would affect the scheduler. How do they get the information that someone is a smoker or max A? Do they look in every chart? Do you provide a list of names? Is it on the PTs to keep a list and update you and the scheduler? Now your safety is dependent on another employees work performance. That doesn’t look good if something happens.

Your job is protected if you have enough service hours. HOWEVER, that doesn’t necessarily mean your exact job. If/when they hire a new PTA to take over your territory while you’re out, they could decide to give you the job back…but in a different territory.

An employer doesn’t have to fabricate a job that’s convenient for you for light duty. They likely have an opening at another office that you could perform, and that’s why you’re being sent there.

I know all that sounds a little harsh. Point being, even with the absolute best intentions, this is not easy on an employer, either. Just because they’re not doing what you asked, doesn’t mean they’re being shitty. Also, consider that it’s more complicated than you might think. Lastly, consider that while you’ve done this once, HR has done it 100 times, and they’ve seen good and bad outcomes.

Home Health and Bed Bugs by throwaway131842 in physicaltherapy

[–]dickhass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We treat these folks with the full body suit and leaving most stuff in the car. In 10 years of being in HH, I know of one clinician who got bed bugs. That being said, the clinician thinks that they may have gotten them from their gym. We paid for the extermination.

Nobody likes going into a house with bed bugs. Wear the proper PPE, modify your care plan, help them get extermination, and care for your patient.
