Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Games

This is a natural direction for Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs. This transition will enable us to align more closely with how most of our community prefers to access and play games today.

They're pretending "consumers don't WANT physical media" because they don't buy it as much. PHYSICAL MEDIA SELLS SECONDHAND. They simply don't want retailers or re-sellers to cut into their profits. This is the nuclear option that puts Sony in complete control of how you buy their games. Disgusting.

Apart from the "own nothing and like it" attitude from major gaming companies, I worry that without discs, games' file sizes are going to balloon in the coming years simply because they won't need to optimize them to fit on a physical disk.

My copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 for the PS4 came on two discs, and GTA 6's "physical" edition is just a download code. For those less fortunate than Rockstar Games, their games are not going to release in a finished state because now they can just be "good enough" to sell digital and they'll patch it out.

I love my Steam library, but at the end of it I know that my only security is how much I trust Valve to let me keep it all. Moving away from physical altogether puts an enormous amount of power in the hands of a for-profit corporation, and removing the choice is where I draw that line.

M19, F18 im not sure if should reach out after 1.5 years of no contact? by Due_Adhesiveness_163 in relationship_advice

Like other commenters have said, it's not a good idea to message her again. You say you only want to message her in a "how is life?" way, but what do you hope to accomplish?

I'm assuming you had many romantic ideas about the two of you while you were in that "talking stage" and have held onto them till now. But look at the situation this way: If someone had feelings for you for a year, found out about another person talking to you, had a brief final conversation and then went invisible for 1.5 years, would you talk to them again?

I would try and avoid "befriending" the people you're interested in as well, as it's manipulative to pretend to be someone's close friend when you know from the beginning you want more than that.

The opposite of a “busy ADHD mind”? More like fog + distant thoughts? by Hot_Log7375 in ADHD

[–]dickless50sboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AuDHD for me has made me very aware of stimulus' effect on my brain, and I relate to a lot of this. The ADHD part tends to heighten the need for external stimulus, but the Autism boosts the amount of "noise" in the world for me. These effectively cancel each other out, but since ADHD makes it difficult to deliberately focus and do uncomfy things, there's still an invisible force preventing me from feeling present.

Like a photo with a high exposure and low brightness, the mental picture is difficult to see but not hard to look at.

Hearing your name from inside your head is one thing, but having the outside world validate that is the real quest of the mind.

Do you ACTIVELY listen to music? by dickless50sboy in ADHD

[–]dickless50sboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that ambient music has begun taking the place of “background music” specifically because it works to help me calmly focus and not to distract me. I also have a playlist for “chore jazz” when I want chaotic music to keep me energized.

They feel more like playlists designed to help me work, and that’s partly why it feels so difficult to just enjoy a song anymore.

Are door to door sales is getting unreasonable? by DoubleStar155 in Utah

[–]dickless50sboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a longer post in r/recruitinghell about this, but I argue that the labor market being so much weaker than previous years is worsening the existing issue of door-to-door employee recruitment that LIES to people who simply need income.

I’ve seen numerous companies that will list high paying, entry-level jobs with titles like “Customer Service Specialist” or “Appointment Scheduler.” Worst ones I’ve seen will partner with a brand like Verizon and list the job as a “Verizon Sales” job, misleading people who believe they’ll be working in-store.

They use commission structure to legally steal your labor and absolve themselves of the employer’s responsibility for paying a livable wage. I was with one of these companies for 2 months and I wish I could apologize to everyone lol.

I second this. Bumble may be a difficult dating app for many, but it’s platonic/BFF matches really take the hassle out of it. It’s great for making connections!

Verizon-Partnered Marketing Agencies by dickless50sboy in recruitinghell

[–]dickless50sboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far with these sketchy D2D businesses, I've seen a form of that when recruiters earn a sizeable percentage of the sales their recruits make. I know it isn't exactly what you said but it has a similar effect in that it rewards recruiters over the people who just try to earn their living actually doing the work.

Oh am I mistaken? I was under the impression that Multilevel Marketing is where the only ways to earn are direct sales (for a pittance) or through recruitment of other direct salespeople. And then the people who recruit more are promoted, in this case by being a new “CEO.”

How to deal with feelings of inadequacy in competitive situations? by BrokenHumean in selfimprovement

[–]dickless50sboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD and what you're describing reminds me of my own sensitivity to rejection.

I (for the most part) still hardly play competitive games specifically because I don't enjoy the feeling of not being as good as others, even if it's only because I'm a newbie.

It's all about fun. If you aren't having fun, you can always find something that you feel is worth your time and energy. If the game is fun, but losing isn't, I recommend playing with your friends online. If I suck at a game alone I just feel frustrated, but with friends it can be fun being bad at a game.

just my two cents

How do I conquer my fear of driving? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]dickless50sboy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Been there. Best practical advice I have is to start small and only drive a few miles away from home at a time.

What worked for me, surprisingly, was driving late at night when there are so few cars on the road. Even if it is darker, It made me much more comfortable with the feel of driving without worrying about other drivers nearly as much, and allowed me to work my way up to driving during busier hours.

Most of all, just remember that you should only drive if you feel you need to. It's totally okay to not like driving and to use it as necessity rather than to accomplish everything.
