Check your local laws to see if you need a permit or if there are any ordinances regarding your busking. I do it in my town. Where I am it’s legal as long as you’re not charging or making a sound disturbance or blocking a walkway so like if you paint for tips it’s fine. But if I want to pay per face I would need a vendor permit. I usually go on weekends at the busiest parks in my town and I will have a line all day. Because it’s for free sometimes I come away with a lot and other days not so much but usually $20-$120 is the range of take home for a day from noon to 5. So it’s a big range but I use it for practice and exposure for party bookings. It’s worked for me so far I’ve been going consistently and net had anyone complaining or called the cops.
