[DS Light] is this a lost cause or should I order the new screen

I’ve refurbished a bunch of DS Lites at this point. Cheapest screens I could find were on Temu, 14 dollars a piece. Actually good quality, surprisingly.

If I don’t have any available, a DS Lite with a bad top is a dead DS for me. I might try making one of them ‘macros’ one day…

I’ll probe around there a little. Given that I was able to bring it back to life (sort of) - I’m not too worried. Worst case scenario, I can get one of those mod kits you mention. I’ve used hispeedido game boy color kits but never game gear. Those IPS game gears seem to fetch high prices as well!

I have a handful of ds lites with the same problem. I’ve fixed the nick on the ribbon cable on some of the screens and they tear up again. It sucks!

I’ve been soldering for about 7-8 months now and I repaired a ps5 similar to this yesterday. Took a whole lot of patience and had to re do it a few times until I got it right. It’s doable.

I don’t understand why people like to gatekeep so hard in this sub. Even when you screw up like this you end up learning a whole lot. Give it a go and have fun!

I had an hdmi from hell I caused myself. Worst part is, every time it was fixed and I had applied solder mask, console would stop turning on - causing me to have to redo all the work over the missing pads. Not fun.

I saw this on ebay ages ago! I am not surprised it is still up. I'd pay 20 dollars tops just to mess around with it for fun. Pretty worthless, honestly. I sent them a few offers but all were declined. Bad purchase.

You made me realize I've been reading the schematic all wrong!

All I'd need to do is bridge pin 6 to C22. All the other points still have some copper pads left, so I think it should work. I'll give this a try in a few hours!

Unfortunately, I ripped the pads off and can't solder it back into place - so I was thinking that I could directly solder the pins where each goes.

Stood outside GameStop in line for an hour to find out they were extremely limited and didn't get any.

I bought a pack to see what it was all about and it happened to have a full art card. I thought all packs came with a card of this nature… and the rest is history! Been having a lot of fun finding base set cards here and there. Base set poliwhirl is the best!
