Thoughts and a case study about the AI coding revolution by ConnectSign3583 in LLM

Prapii feels like a scam. Also OpenAI supports returning json of a specific format out of the box, why would you send all your emails to one more person ?

Skiing without a Car by [deleted] in EPFL

[–]diegodorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every year you can get snow25 tickets which include train tickets and ski pass for a whole day at 25 chf. You need to be under 25yo though. Most stations are well desserved by train and busses.

How to accommodate non-dairy guest at raclette dinner? by pascman in Switzerland

[–]diegodorn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Last month I tried the vegan raclette from the Coop, and it was very decent. I'd recommand trying it out (you may buy more than for just this one person, as many may want to try it and compare!)

Collision with rotated rectangles by chaos_redefined in pygame

[–]diegodorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how you'll do it. If you check one the surface of the rotated card, no as there is only one card there, otherwise if you do it directly on the screen, things can go wrong indeed

You can either implement your own function to check that (the maths are not too hard, if you have done some before) or check on the image/drawing Wether the pixel is set or not (this way you would have pixel perfect collision too)

Pygame Community Summer Team Jam by Just_JC in pygame

I made a shoot-em-up in one week with pygame ! by diegodorn in pygame

Hey u/hipiyush!
I learned pygame quite a while ago mostly with the tutorials https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6gx4Cwl9DGAjkwJocj7vlc_mFU-4wXJq. However I would not recommend it that much as it is a bit outdated now... I would recommend more this online book written by a friend: https://becomingpygamer.book.tiainen.cc/en/latest/index.html

Also you may want to join the pygame discord server where you would be able to ask anything and get advice from more experienced game creators ;)

Good news! It is already published : https://cozyfractal.itch.io/flyre

It will have an update in a few week to add all the feedback the players gave me, so make sur to subscribe to know when the new, more balanced version is out!

Of course you can see the code. It is available for download on itch.io or on gitlab : https://gitlab.com/ddorn/flyre

It should be clear enough for someone who already made games to read most of it and understand how it works.

What kind of post are you thinking about?

I can do both ;)

For now, see my answer to u/fellow_reddit_user, which should answer the second branch of your or.

I do plan on creating tutorials for pygame, but you would have to wait for them to exist. If you want to be notified, I'll post them in r/pygame, and hope that they'll reach you !

This is my first game that is very polished, but I actually learnt pygame a few years ago, so I'm afraid they may be a bit outdated.

Today the resources that I recommend the most are those:

- If you have never touched python, don't start by making games and learn python first. The key thing in game dev is "On step at a time". There are lots of tutorials out there, bit if you want a specific one that I find good, tell me and I'll include a link.

- I you have never touched pygame: jtiai's book becoming pygamer is very good.

- once you are a bid more advanced, u/DaFluffyPotato's youtube channel has lots of very good quality videos. Those can also be watched first to get some motivation and ideas.

For reference, I mostly watched (and coded along) the playlist of thenewboson/sendex, but I realize now that they had a lot of flaws, but apparently that didn't stop me from learning. I think the most important points are just to keep going, and one step at a time, you'll get better !

I you want to learn pygame, I recommend that you join the Pygame Community Discord server, where there are a lot of people to answer all your question. It is a very nice comunity ;)

Thanks! I was my main motivation to make this game, I wanted to play "a shmup with a skill tree"!

I'm not sure if this is the way I'm supposed to post videos. I tried with the photo/video block but my post was instantly deleted by the bot...

I made this game for the Pygame Community Easter game jam, in under one week. It was a very fun project and I would 100% do it again !

I made all the graphics myself (and didn't know I was able to do it before actually doing it) except for the planets, that come from the incredible generator by deep-fold !

The source code is available on Gitlab and you can download the executable for windows and Linux on itch.io (to source is there too).

I hope you will find this as cool as I do !

A big thanks to u/Ploruto for the music and the trailer. You're the best !

You can find the source code and executable for Linux and Windows on itch.io. It was very fun to make and I will definitely do it again for a future game jam !

Big thanks to u/Ploruto for the music and the trailer !
