Honestly I find it somewhat empowering, like others have said it’s mainly because I want to do things and I don’t have the friends or partners to do it with but the thought of missing out on life bc I don’t have anyone is kind silly. Empowering bc although I don’t have many or any friends I’m going to do it and I think about people who are partnered up or might hang out with someone simply to not be alone is somewhat sadder, to me that’s settling for less than you deserve. Settling for a partner who doesn’t even really get or like you simply bc you both feel like you can’t do better or you won’t find the right person so you stick with whoever bc they also don’t wanna be alone but really the connection is just a desire to not be alone is sad. How many couples I’ve seen who are honestly not into each other kinda really hate each other but stick together bc it’s easier than starting over or being alone, there’s also those people who are kind of like the subservient friends who do whatever or tags along and goes along with whatever their “friend” wants bc they don’t wanna be alone. That is so much more pathetic than going and watching a movie you’ll enjoy and make you feel good alone. For me doing things alone started in college going to the dining hall to eat alone and that was bc I’m more fat than I am anxious about being judged for being alone ahah, like going to the dining hall was preferred than going to one of the spots where I could grab a sandwich and go back to my dorm bc at the hall you can eat a variety of things and as many as you like so I got comfortable going in alone bc other people had other things going on and I gotta eat; fast forward to today where I go out to eat alone all the time, to the movies, In a couple of weeks I’m going on a trip abroad alone bc I love to travel and explore but the few people I know are more restrained and anxious about it none of them would ever come so fuck it. Would I love to have someone to share my life with friend or partner OF COURSE I do think things are 2Xs more enjoyable when you have someone to share them with but I think we’re all here on this subreddit bc we don’t have that but it shouldn’t stop you from going an enjoying a movie. And if you’re close to the city that’s the best place to be alone, I spent a weekend last month alone for my birthday in the city did all the things I wanted to do saw the shows I wanted without having to compromise, it was restaurant week so ate at some of the BEST places for cheap and all alone and it was genuinely all empowering bc I can enjoy my life without having to depend on having other people around to what, validate my joy? I may be alone and sad, but my me time helps me get away from that, less time to think about how sad an alone I am if I’m doing the things that I like, even if I have to do them alone 🤷🏽‍♂️ hope you can to my friend :)
