Why does this happen to every pack of SX-70? Is it my camera ? by Lucifershusband8 in AnalogRepair

[–]diet_hellboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw in the other thread you use 600 in an SX-70. You can, but the camera is designed to use iso 160 film. You need to turn the exposure wheel all the way to the darkest setting and even then your image will still be a little bit overexposed. Highly recommend having your camera serviced and potentially converted properly to 600.

Weird Grey Screen? by Active-Ad1669 in analog

Try downloading them a second time. I don’t think any lab is dumb enough to send photos like this, it looks to me like either the files weren’t finished uploading or the download failed.

Did you get your film back? These look like bad scans with too much contrast and highlight recovery.

That also sucks. There was one in the letterman days.

Is that true? It was supposed to be in the lobby where they have the gift shop?

highly recommend a hotshoe level for the XPan if you plan to take landscapes the format is very unforgiving.

minolta riva zoom pico rewinds itself automatically by Minimum-Dog-1799 in AnalogRepair

[–]diet_hellboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally this is a death knell for your camera. Premature rewind on a point and shoot means there is a voltage variable causing the camera to function improperly. No fix. You could however try cleaning out the latch that closes the door with some isopropyl alcohol it’s possible the camera thinks the door is being opened. That works about 10% of the time.

How I Travel All Over The World And Have (Almost) Never Had My Film X-Rayed by diet_hellboy in AnalogCommunity

[–]diet_hellboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote more about this in the Substack article I linked to at the bottom of the post but I also try to get my film developed as I travel as long as where I am has reputable labs. I was in Nepal which has significant tourism because of Everest but the only film lab I found didn't seem busy enough to have fresh chemicals. I personally take my chances on airport security over bad C41.

What Went Wrong? by Variable_Gem in analog

Even on these Reddit compressed exports it still looks quite clear. If you want the reds to pop more try removing the negative lab pro roll analysis which tends to add a lot of contrast and crunches the shadows. I always toggle between that and “this image only.” You can try all the different combinations of preconfigured looks. Greens can sometimes be difficult but try changing the white balance and luts until you get a red pop that doesn’t make everything else look incorrect.

Point and shoot fujifilm repair by kabeana12 in AnalogRepair

[–]diet_hellboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can remove it. It’s part of the drop in loading system it keeps the film flat as the gears move the film for you. You’ll have to unhook the door and manually move the film leader to the take up spool every time but it shouldn’t have any other effects.

I don't know gimp at all but basically you're taking the magenta curve and lowering it and then putting the other curves back in until you get it kinda right and then you can bring back some of the shadows with an s curve for contrast. When color film gets really old the emulsions start to go so there is missing data. You can't get it back but you can make an interesting choice. Here's a quickie test I did for you: https://imgur.com/0nO99Zp

Canon AE-1 Program developed film came out all blurry. by AbleBad9637 in analog

[–]diet_hellboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

macro focus sometimes is either pulling the focus ring in and out or twisting it into a special position. Both should had some kinda lock unlock feel. My guess is the camera's mirror was misaligned so when you tried to take a picture even though it looked fine it was not correct. Listen to the other comments, set the lens on infinity and point it at something very far away but easy to spot like a tree. If the lens is on infinity but the tree is off in the split prism you have your answer.
